  7.         If you recieved this program on a diskette, you must first
  8.         "unzip" the archive file AD12.ZIP.  Copy AD12.ZIP to another disk
  9.         and use the included pkunzip.exe program to expand the file (i.e. 
  10.         pkunzip ad12).   You will require about 400K of storage for the
  11.         expanded files.  
  12.  
  13.         Otherwise, you will have already expanded the file and should 
  14.         follow the steps below.

  17.         If you upload Action Designer to a BBS, please upload a copy of
  18.         the original AD12.ZIP file.  You have our greatest appreciation
  19.         and thanks for any uploads you make.

  21.         BBS Sysops should feel free to do whatever virus screening they
  22.         want to.  If you encounter any difficulties, please contact
  23.         me immediately.

  26.         Shareware distributors are authorized to charge their usual
  27.         nominal distribution fees.  However, keep in mind that this is a
  28.         copyrighted work.  You may not in any manner infer that your
  29.         fee is the only cost to your customers.  If it is your practice
  30.         to advise your customers that some products you distribute are
  31.         fee based shareware, thank you for your consideration.

  34.         A registration fee payable to MetaLogic Corporation is required 
  35.         of all users who adopt Action Designer for use and who wish 
  36.         technical support.

  40.         INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
  41.         1.   Place the following files in a
  42.              subdirectory somewhere on your
  43.              path:
  44.                   AD.EXE            AD program
  45.                   TSRINT.EXE        Interrupt
  46.                                     handler used when 
  47.                                     SHELL won't work
  48.                                     properly.
  49.  
  50.         2.   Create a directory in which to
  51.              store support files.  This
  52.              "support" directory will contain
  53.              the following files:

  55.                   AD.HLP            On line help text
  56.                   AD.CFG            Configuration file
  57.                   AD.DOC            User's guide text
  58.                                     file
  59.                   README.1ST        Last minute
  60.                                     information
  61.                   *.PD              Printer drivers

  63.                                     features in the
  64.                                     registered version
  65.                   REGISTER.TXT      Registration form

  82.         3.   Create one or more subdirectories
  83.              in which you will store action
  84.              diagrams that you create.   These
  85.              are referred to as "project"
  86.              directories.  Place these files in
  87.              one of the project directories:

  89.                   *.AD              Various example
  90.                                     Action Diagrams
  91.  
  92.              These will usually be associated
  93.              with a specific project.
  94.  
  95.              Only AD.EXE, AD.CFG and AD.HLP are
  96.              required to operate AD.  You will
  97.              want to examine the example
  98.              diagrams.

  100.         4.   Add the following command to your
  101.              autoexec.bat file:
  102.              SET ADDIR=<path>
  103.              where <path> is the location of
  104.              your support directory.  AD will
  105.              look for AD.CFG in this
  106.              subdirectory (or in the current
  107.              directory if ADDIR isn't set).
  108.              Reboot your computer.
  109.  
  110.         5.   Test your installation by typing AD
  111.              at the DOS prompt.  Press Alt-S
  112.              to display the current setup.
  113.              Enter your project and support
  114.              paths (including drive), select a
  115.              printer and default language and
  116.              set other options as you desire.
  117.              Save your configuration by pressing
  118.              Ok.

  121.         PRINTERS
  122.         Printer drivers for a number of popular printers are included.
  123.  
  124.         PLAIN.PD is the generic printer driver.
  125.  
  126.         PLAIN works with the HP Laserjet II and IBM Proprinter.

  128.         USER'S GUIDE
  129.         The User's Guide is contained in AD.DOC.  You will want to print 
  130.         it out in advance of using Action Designer.  It is about 35 
  131.         printed pages.  The printed manual for registered users is, of 
  132.         course, much nicer.  Examine the sections on basics, the user 
  133.         interface and opening diagrams to get a quick operational overview.

  147.         SHAREWARE MANUAL
  148.         You can get a hard copy of the manual by entering a command like
  149.         "copy ad.doc prn" at the DOS prompt.  Certain special characters
  150.         are represented by '?' in the text.  The formatting is imperfect
  151.         in some cases.  You will want to register to recieve a laser 
  152.         printed copy of the manual.
  153.         
  154.         UNIMPLEMENTED FUNCTIONS
  155.         The evaluation copy of Action Designer is fully functional.  You
  156.         will be reminded of your obligation to pay for what you use
  157.         regularly.
