The Parameters
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Path
Mask
String 1
Logic
String 2
Case
Words
Find
Set find
Ask
Path .................. Set the path (including drive name and
subdirectory path) to search. The File
Selection Window will appear. When the drive
& directory that you wish to search are
displayed, select a file and press [ENTER].
This Parameter also used when producing
a Log Report from the Search Menu (see above).
Mask .................. Set a file mask to use in searches. For
example, use "*.LOG" to search all
"xxxxxxxx.LOG" files.
This Parameter also used when producing
a Log Report from the Search Menu (see above).
String 1 .............. This Parameter is where you enter the primary
search string. If you only want to search for
one string, enter it as string 1.
Logic ................. The "Logic" Parameter has four possible
settings: AND, OR, NOT or IGNORE. This
Parameter determines how the search will
combine (or not combine) the two search
strings during the search operation.
In other words, String #1 AND String #2 will
be searched for (scenes must contain both
strings) ... String #1 OR String #2 will be
looked for (scenes can contain either string)
... String #2 will be IGNOREd, and only String
#1 will be searched for ... or a scene must
contain String #1 and NOT contain String #2
(scenes which contain both strings will not be
found).
String 2 .............. This Parameter is where you enter a second
search string, if you wish.
Page 9 - Reference
Case .................. The "Case" Parameter determines whether the
case (upper or lower) of the search strings
will be taken into account during the search.
The choices are "MATCH" upper & lower case or
"IGNORE" the case.
For example, if you enter "Cats" as the search
string, and the "Case" is set to IGNORE, any
scene containg "cats", "Cats", "CAts", "caTS",
etc. will be found. If the "Case" parameter
is set to MATCH, however, only the string
"Cats" will be found.
Words ................. If set to "YES", only whole words will be
found. If "NO", the search strings can be
embedded inside words.
For example, if the "Words" parameter is "YES"
and the search string is "cat", the word
"cats" and the word "catalog" will not be
found. Only the search string as a separate
word "cat" will be found. If the "Words"
parameter is "NO", "cats" or "catalog"
or "cat" will be considered a 'find'.
Set Find/Find ......... Use to limit the files which are searched,
based on the Reel Info of the LOG files.
Set Find brings up a window similar to the
Reel Info window, into which text information
or dates can be entered. During the search,
the Reel Info for each file is compared to
the Set Find information. If they match, the
file will be searched. If not, the file will
be skipped.
This comparison to the Reel Info will only
happen if the "Find" parameter is set to
"ON". If set to "OFF", any information in
the "Set Find" window is ignored.
The comparison between the Set Find information
and the Reel Info uses the current settings of
the "Case" parameter and the "Words" parameter.
(See "VLSEARCH.DOC" for more details of how
these work.)
These Parameters also used when producing
a Log Report from the Search Menu (see above).
Ask ................... If set to "YES", you will be asked to confirm
each file before it is searched. Press [Y]
to search the file, [N] to skip that file, and
[ESC] to cancel the search operation. If
this parameter is set to "NO", all files
matching the Path and Mask will be searched
automatically.
This Parameter also used when producing
a Log Report from the Search Menu (see above).
