  3.   One of the other important features of an orienteering compass is
  4. the lines in the plastic base that run parallel to the long edges. 
  5. These can be lined up with Latitude and Longitude lines on
  6. topographic maps to ensure extreme accuracy in your traveling.      
  7.   The best way to progress from this point is to actually purchase
  8. a compass and read the instructions (if you don't have one), and then
  9. use the rest of this tutorial for training and reference.  Compasses
  10. made by "S I L V A" have an excellent reputation and are guaranteed
  11. accurate for life.  They are available from many camping stores, mail
  12. order firms, and chain stores (some K-Marts, Shop-Ko's, etc.). If you
  13. can't find any, information on purchasing one,at cost, is available
  14. at the end of this tutorial.

  23. After that, using map and compass together, adjusting for declination
  24. and judging distances by paces will be discussed. If you have not
  25. already done so, now would be a good time to review the definitions
  26. at the end of this lesson, entitled  "Define.31" and "Define.32" .   
  27. If you have had any difficulty so far, it would be best to review the
  28. previous lessons before continuing.
