TOLEO.DOC Version 1.2 8/14/92
Written by Artie Carter, Grandin Fl.
TOLEO was written initially to view the odds of winning the lotto in
Florida since my comprehension of the stated odds of 1:13,983,816 lagged
somewhat. I showed TOLEO to a few others, and was made aware that they
too had a limited understanding of just how hard it is to "hit the big
one"! So, in hopes of allowing others the joy of understanding, this
program is humbly submitted for your viewing and enlightenment.
Using TOLEO:
to start, type from dos...
TOLEO r
This will setup the program to R)andomly choose 5 sets of numbers.
Pressing Enter will step you thru a continuing series of lotto "games"
and match the "selected" numbers to the computer's lotto pick. Any
matches of three or more will cause the "Bucks Won" to increment, and
the "Matches" box to show where it occured. (ie: 3, 4, 5, or 6 of 6).
TOLEO i
This will setup the program to allow you to I)nsert your own lotto
selections and bypass the "computer" selections.
Adding a ' n' (space and the letter n) to the command line will shutoff
the silly music at the beginning. It will always play when the winning
combination is hit.
The F-Keys:
F1 : steps thru a series of different speeds. This allows you to
process many "games" without having to wait a week.
F2 : Pause ... Stops the fast pace of F1.
F3 : Reselects the random set of numbers. If you hold down this key
you will get an idea of just how "lucky" you are changing your
numbers every week. If the set has any winning combinations,
execpt 3 out of 6, the program pauses and will only continue
when F4 is pressed. This is so you won't run by it.
F4 : Used with the above to continue.
F5 : Swaps between the startup R and I setup configurations.
F6 : not used.
F7 : Shows a text graph of the numbers (1..49) and their selection
frequency.
F8 : not used.
F9 : Resets all counters to the starting point.
F10 : Used with the "I" startup option to signal your completion of
the entry process.
Other keys:
ESCape : Exits the program.
TAB : Used with the "I" startup option to move to next input number
set.
Enter : along with any other key that is not designated another
function, increments the selection process to the next "game"
when SPEED is set to PAUSED.
Soapbox comments :
A seemingly wise ploy of the lottery board was to "donate funds"
to the educational system in Florida. This "ploy" makes even the slightly
skeptical player say, "Well, even if I don't win, the money is going for
a 'good' purpose". On the back of the lotto "Play Slip" is the following
statement:
"LOTTO is a parimutuel game."
PARIMUTUEL (defined by Websters Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary (C) 1986)
1: a betting pool in which those who bet on competitors finishing
in the first three places share the total amount bet minus a
percentage for the management.
Notice the key words "total amount" and "percentage for the management".
If you live in Florida, or any other state where lotto is legal, and the
system has allowed this "donation", take note of the financial condition
of the schools "before" and "after". I (personal view here) believe in
every case the "condition" has and will deteriorate. This very basic
principle has Biblical foundation.
See: 1 Timothy 6:9..10
Proverbs 11:17..28
Proverbs 20:21
Proverbs 23:4
Also, can you say you haven't heard someone in the government complaining
that the schools aren't getting what they thought should come from the
lottery?
This program will (hopefully) show the numeric difficulty of attaining the
winning combination. To see for yourself that the program is operating in
the manner for which it is proposed, step thru a few sets and check for
yourself that the matches are checked accurately and annotated in the
proper boxes. Then run it in FASTEST mode for as long as you can stand or
until you "Hit the big one". May you receive wisdom and understanding.
end of soapbox.
