  18. The American Naturist Hypertext Guide - 2nd Edition Update 1/93
  19. (Shareware Version) is a result of several years of information
  20. gathering about naturist and nudist organizations in the United
  21. States. Basic information about clubs, groups, SIGs, and other social
  22. outlets for the naturist lifestyle has been maintained in a computer
  23. database, and is now shared with those interested in a form of
  24. communication know as 'hypertext.'
  25.  
  26. Hypertext enables the reader to easily move around the entire guide
  27. and locate information quickly. Hypertext can be mastered with little
  28. or no computer knowledge.
  29.  
  30. Naturist organizations are presented in this guide in a similar
  31. fashion as one would find on a business card; names, addresses, phone
  32. numbers, and names of persons to contact. In addition, categories are
  33. provided to give a better understanding as to the focus of the
  34. contact, brief membership information listed, newsletter name and
  35. publishing period where applicable, and known affiliations with
  36. national naturist organizations listed.

  42. versions; the Shareware Version and the Retail Version.

  45. associations, clubs, and resorts.

  48. and resorts as well as Special Interest Groups (SIGs), groups, bed &

  131. System Requirements

  133. To use The American Naturist Hypertext Guide - 2nd Edition (Shareware
  134. Version) you will need the following hardware and software:

  137.         - DOS 2.1 or greater
  138.         - Any monitor (monochrome. CGA, EGA, VGA)

  142. Version) will run in any text mode and supports most display sizes.

  145. Operation
  146. ~~~~~~~~~
  147. To start, type 'hh anhg-e2a' at the DOS command prompt. Monochrome
  148. users may wish to disable the colors by typing 'hh -m anhg-e2a' (force
  149. monochrome mode).

  151. Help is available by pressing the 'H' key or the F1 function key.

  154. Moving the Cursor
  155. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  156. Use the arrow keys, plus PgUp, PgDn, Home, and End to move and scroll.
  157. To select text, use same keys plus shift key.

  159. To move between links, press the TAB or SPACE (forward) or SHIFT_TAB
  160. or BACKSPACE (backward). Press ENTER to select link.

  162. Press ENTER to activate the link under the cursor, or to search for a
  163. card matching the topic at the cursor.

  197. Links within the Cards
  198. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  199. On each card, you will see a menu along the top line of the screen.
  200. Each of these menu links connects to other cards or functions.
  201.  
  202. You will also find links within the text which also connect to other
  203. cards or functions.
  204.  
  205. These links are evident by their color. To move between them with a
  206. keyboard, use the TAB (forward) or SHIFT-TAB (backward). You can try
  207. it out on this card, and press ENTER to select any link. Mouse users
  208. may move the cursor to any link and click to activate the link.

  211. Menu Links
  212. ~~~~~~~~~~
  213. The following commands are available directly by the top-line menu
  214. links. Other functions are available; see Additional Key Commands.

  218.         Next Card       Displays the Next Card

  224.         Quit            Quits the guide; returns to DOS

  227. Card Topics
  228. ~~~~~~~~~~~
  229. You can select any text on any screen to see if there any other cards
  230. which contain the same topic. On the contact cards, the highlighted
  231. items are the most likely to be able to be linked to other cards.
  232. However, any text on any screen may be selected and will attempt a
  233. match. Simply position the cursor over the word or phrase and press
  234. ENTER. If there is a card which contains that topic, it will be
  235. presented. In the case where there are many cards containing that
  236. topic, you will be shown a list which you may choose from.

  239. Searching the Cards
  240. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  241. By pressing 'S' or selecting 'Search' from the menu, you can attempt
  242. to find topics of your choice throughout the cards.
  243.  
  244. After selecting Search, you will be presented with a Topic Search box.
  245. Decide if the letters you will search for will be a
  246.  
  247.         (P)refix        String entered is treated as a prefix
  248.         (S)ubstring     String entered is treated as a substring
  249.         (L)ast Search   A topic pick list window will pop up with the
  250.                         cursor at the last topic searched

  253. Printing & Exporting Cards & Text
  254. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  255. To print the card being displayed, press the 'P' key, or select the
  256. PRINT menu link.
  257.  
  258. A dialog box will pop up; type in the name of the printer you would
  259. like to print to. You have the following choices:
  260.  
  261.         PRN     The default printer
  262.         LPT1    The printer on the LPT1 port
  263.         LPT2    The printer on the LPT2 port
  264.  
  265. To export, or copy, the current card to a file, press the 'E' key.
  266.  
  267. A popup dialog box appear. You will be prompted for an output file
  268. name. (A default file of savecard.txt is used.) After entering a file
  269. name, you may press return to export the card or press ESC to cancel
  270. the operation.

  273. Using Bookmarks
  274. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  275. You can place a "bookmark" whenever you wish to save your place. Using
  276. bookmarks, you can go and explore other cards, and easily return to
  277. the card where the bookmark was placed.
  278.  
  279. To place a bookmark, simply press the 'M' key. You may place multiple
  280. bookmarks. To go back to the last bookmark placed, press the 'B' key
  281. (for BACK). Repeatedly pressing 'B' takes you to each bookmark you've
  282. placed, in order of latest to earliest. Pressing the 'F' key (for
  283. FORWARD) takes you in reverse order.

  285. You can store up to 7 bookmarks.

  288. Troubleshooting
  289. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  290. IF YOU ENCOUNTER IMMEDIATE BROWSER LOCKUP, read below for some
  291. possible reasons:
  292.  
  293.     I. Your computer is non-standard in some way in the upper
  294.        memory area (between 640K-1MB), and causes HyperHelper's
  295.        automatic scan of this area to lock up.
  296.  
  297.        Solution: Try using the -xh option, which will prevent
  298.        HyperHelper from scanning the upper memory area. If you use
  299.        this option, then you may NOT load HyperHelper into the upper
  300.        memory area using the DOS loadhigh command.
  301.  
  302.    II. If you are using QEMM 6.0 or NetWare, and use the -lim option,
  303.        the browser may lock up. Try using the new -limc option, (which
  304.        moves code but not data, see V3.03a notes), which has been
  305.        known to clear up problems with QEMM and NetWare.
  306.  
  307.   III. Your mouse driver is old, or is not a true Microsoft compatible
  308.        driver.
  309.  
  310.        Solution: Try using the -mo- option which disables the use of
  311.        the mouse in the browser. (Notice the dash before AND after
  312.        "mo".) If this clears up the problem, then either use this
  313.        option all the time, or try to update to the latest mouse
  314.        driver you can.
  315.  
  316. MOUSE DRIVERS:
  317.  
  318. If you have a Logitech mouse with an old driver (pre-V5.0), the mouse
  319. action will not work properly in HyperHelper. Update to V5.0 or higher
  320. of the driver to correct the problem.
  321.  
  322. Also, the browser will lock up if you are using a TrueMouse driver,
  323. (purportedly supplied by NorthGate.) Even though this driver is
  324. supposed to be 100% Microsoft compatible, it apparently isn't! The
  325. same symptoms occur with some Mouse System mouse drivers.
  326.  
  327. Try to use the latest mouse driver you can, and if at all possible,
  328. use a true Microsoft mouse driver.

  402. 2nd Edition - Update 1/93
  403.  
  404.     *   The 3rd Edition is well on it's way to completion. A new
  405.         hypertext system will be used which will provide more in-depth
  406.         information about organizations as well as graphic maps, the
  407.         ability for the reader to make notes within the book, and
  408.         enhanced searching capabilities. The entire text will be
  409.         revised and expanded. The new hypertext system will be easier
  410.         to use; it features on-line help, use of the arrow keys for
  411.         moving around, reader-configurable colors, and booksmarks.
  412.  
  413.         Originally, the release of the 3rd Edition was planned for
  414.         January 1993. However, due to the volume of information
  415.         Web-Man Publications is receiving from organizations all over
  416.         the country, the release date has been pushed forward. In the
  417.         interest of keeping readers current on information, Web-Man
  418.         Publications has decided to update the Second Edition, which
  419.         will be sent free of charge to all registered readers.
