-> Lastly, on a different subject, the usage of the flag that gives the users
-> the opportunity to read new mail. I noticed that it does not seem to flag
-> messages addressed as @user@. Was this by design?
Yes. And for the same reason that v14.5 and v14.5a worked that *same* way.
If you had 1000 users in your USERS file and you left a message to @user@,
PCBoard would have to scan all 1000 user records and set the "Mail Waiting" bit
flags on for each and every user.
This involves modifying two files, both the users and users.inf files, and, if
you have more than a few conferences, those files will be large enough that
merely READING them will be a long enough delay, actually writing to them,
which is an even slower process, could be unbearable.
This still may change in a future release of PCBoard. I had wanted to make it
an option for v15.0 ... but there were many MORE features that I had wanted to
see in v15.0. But time simply ran out. People were "demanding" new code (and
that word is not the least over stressed) so we're getting new code out to them
as fast as we can.
We expect yet another release (perhaps v15.1) to go into testing later this
year so perhaps that will be one of the features that makes it. No promises on
that though...
