WNOS version 4 UK Release Pack Details
======================================
This pack contains the following files :-
README.WN4 - This File
WNOS.EXE - The WNOS Program
HELP.EXE - Self Extracting Archive of Mailbox Help Files
UTILS.EXE - Self Extracting Archive of Utility programs
WNOS4DOC.EXE - Self Extracting Archive of WNOS4 Manuals etc
SETUP.EXE - Example Configuration Files
PCELM301.ZIP - The latest version of the PCElm Mail Program.
The Self Extracting Archive Files
=================================
These files hold a compressed archive of files. When you run them as
a DOS program, the files will be uncompressed and written to your
disk. For example;
C:\TCPIP\DOC > wnos4doc
would unpack the WNOS4 documentation archive. The files always unpack
to the current directory.
What's In The Archives ?
========================
HELP.EXE - Mailbox help files. This archive should be copied to the
SPOOL/HELP directory and unpacked there.
Please *DON'T* forget to edit the HOST.HLP file!
UTILS.EXE - An assortment of programs. ARPFCONV.EXE should be used to
convert WNOS2 routing files to WNOS4 format. AXPATH.EXE
lists the contents of the AX.25 autorouter save file. The
various .COM files can be used to build a DOS .BAT file as
suggested in the WNOS4 Configuration Manual.
WNOS4DOC.EXE - The WNOS4 Documentation Archive. Contains;
WNOS4MAN.TXT - The WNOS4 User Manual
WNOS4CFG.TXT - The WNOS4 Configuration Guide
WNOS4CMD.TXT - The WNOS4 Command Reference
WNOS4UPD.TXT - Quick Update to WNOS4 (for WNOS3 users)
WNOS3MAN.TXT - The User Guide for WNOS version 3
NOSMBOX.TXT - Guide to Using the NOS Mailbox (SM0RGV)
Please note that even if you did use WNOS3, don't just read
the update document. Read everything! Print it first if need
be, all the documents are plain ASCII. The WNOS3 User Manual
contains most of the information about the basic program not
repeated in the WNOS4 manuals for brevity.
SETUP.EXE - Copies of all the files listed in the WNOS4 Configuration
Guide. Plus other files such as the UK Domain Name file.
PCELM301.ZIP - The latest version of this popular mail program. Can be
used for reading, replying to, sending and organising mail.
Please note that I do not support this program in any way,
it is merely included for those that don't have a mailer
and get fed up with the primitive NOS mailbox. You will
need the PKUNZIP program to unpack it.
Where Do I Start ?
================
Please start by unpacking the archive of WNOS4 Documentation and Manuals
(WNOS4DOC.EXE). Then *READ* the documentation before you start running
WNOS4. The manuals will give you all the information about the directory
structure and configuration files. If you are new to WNOS you will need
to create the directory structure before you can do anything.
Once you have created the directory structure, unpack HELP.EXE in the
SPOOL/HELP directory and SETUP.EXE and UTILS.EXE in the WNOS4 'root'
directory. The configuration files in SETUP.EXE can then be moved to
their rightful places as indicated by the documentation.
AND DON'T FORGET......
======================
1) Take backup copies of the Distribution Disk
2) READ ALL THE DOCUMENTS
3) Remember to edit the files to suit your tastes!
4) Comment out parts of the files that you do not need, for example
the interlink entries in the CONVERS.CFG file.
5) Tell me of errors and omissions.
6) Watch TCPIP @ GBR on your local mailbox for details of WNOS4 updates.
Have Fun!
