  17.                     PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
  18.  
  19. Mass User Management (MUM) facilitates the management of four
  20. critical areas system managers frequently encounter.  These include
  21. adding, deleting, updating and monitoring user accounts.  
  22.  
  23. You must be a SUPERVISOR equivalent for MUM to function properly.
  24. Certain parts of the bindery can only be accessed by a SUPERVISOR
  25. equivalent.

  27. OVERVIEW:
  28.  
  29. Mass User Management will allow system managers to do the
  30. following:
  31.  
  32.      1)   Add large numbers of users from lists generated by a
  33. database, spreadsheet or word processing program.  Mass User
  34. Management will verify names of existing users and add those who do
  35. not have accounts.
  36.      2)   Delete users from a text file listing usernames, a
  37. certain group, disabled accounts and expired accounts.
  38.      3)   Change user restrictions for all users, users in a
  39. certain group, users with expirations dates older than a specified
  40. date, users with login dates older than a specified date and users
  41. in a text file.
  42.      4)   Generate lists of user restrictions for all users, users
  43. in a certain group, users with expirations dates older than a
  44. specified date, users with login dates older than a specified date
  45. and users in a text file.

  47. ADVANTAGES OF MASS USER MANAGEMENT:
  48.  
  49. Mass User Management is an essential tool for all managers required
  50. to manage large numbers of users.  It adds and deletes users
  51. dynamically and then allows managers to modify restrictions once
  52. the users are created.  It also allows managers to create lists of
  53. users and their restrictions.
  54.  
  55.      1)   MUM drastically saves time for the system manager who is
  56. constantly adding new users or the system manager who needs to add
  57. large numbers of users at one time. 
  58.  
  59.      2)   MUM adds and deletes users dynamically.  It allows
  60. managers to define a template for each user group, and then add
  61. users according to a set of templates without separating users into
  62. different lists or having to add each user individually.

  64.         MUM vs. UserDef
  65.         ---------------
  66.           - Novell's utility UserDef allows system managers to
  67. define different templates for different groups of users, but
  68. requires that managers select a current template and then add users
  69. one-by-one.  
  70.           - MUM allows system managers to define different
  71. templates for different departments and then add any number of
  72. users from any of the defined departments all at once.

  74.         MUM vs. MakeUser
  75.         ----------------
  76.           -  Novell's utility MakeUser allows system managers to
  77. add larger numbers of users at one time but managers loose the
  78. advantage of having templates defined for different groups.  The
  79. files for MakeUser need to be specially prepared for MakeUser and
  80. are not really reusable.  Users need to be group together and the
  81. restrictions file layout is not cohesive to large numbers of users.

  83.      3)   MUM will deleted all disabled accounts or accounts that
  84. have not logged in for a certain period of time.  It can deleted
  85. all users in a certain server group or delete all users listed in
  86. a text file.

  88.      4)   MUM allows system managers to modify user restrictions in
  89. bulk after they are added.
  90.  
  91.      5)   MUM allows managers to create lists of users and their
  92. restrictions.  These lists can be read back into spreadsheet or
  93. database programs.

  95.      6)   MUM was written to allow system managers to add and delete
  96. users from a batch file.  This can be performed by calling MUM's
  97. child process, MassMode.
  98.  
  99. Overall, no program on the market offers the features to system
  100. managers that Mass User Management does.  Some programs limit the
  101. number of users that can be managed, but MUM is not limited by such
  102. restrictions.  Mass User Management is a critical tool for managers
  103. to stay in control of their networks.
