  1. In accordance with current practice and adopted echomail procedure 
  2. within Fidonet, the following rules have been established for the 
  3. WordPerfect Echo.  The following rules will be posted periodically.
  4.  
  5. The purpose of the rules is quite simply to make sure the messages 
  6. conform to Fidonet standards, keep the threads on topic, and to 
  7. insure orderly distribution without causing duplicate message loops.
  8.  
  9. 1.  Only real names are allowed in this conference.  Handles, nick-
  10.     names, etc. are not permitted.  This is an echo dedicated to 
  11.     serious topics and such handles as "Asian Warrior", "Satan's Right 
  12.     Hand", and "The Avenger" have no place here.  Short forms of your 
  13.     first name such as Bob, Al, Joe, etc. are not considered nick- 
  14.     names.

  16. 2.  The purpose of this echo is discussion of WordPerfect Corporation
  17.     products and add-on products for WordPerfect products.  No other
  18.     software, hardware, etc. questions are considered on-topic.  No
  19.     "bashing" of competitive products is permitted.  The Moderator
  20.     will absolutely not permit the "My wordprocessor is better than
  21.     your wordprocessor" syndrome into the echo.

  23. 3.  Off topic messages should be ignored.  The Moderator will respond 
  24.     to them directly.  Answers by others just tend to perpetuate 
  25.     themselves and lead the threads astray.
  26.  
  27. 4.  Personal attacks (commonly called flames) are not permitted under 
  28.     any circumstances.  In addition to keeping the messages on topic, 
  29.     we intend to keep things friendly.  It is absolutely permitted 
  30.     and encouraged to disagree.  However, it must be done in a 
  31.     friendly manner.  It is particularly necessary for the profes-
  32.     sionals among us to remember that this echo is for *everyone*. 
  33.     A condescending manner is to be avoided at all costs.  Please try 
  34.     to remember how much you had to learn at one time.

  36. 5.  This echo is available to any Fidonet BBS which wants to carry it,
  37.     and we hope they all will.  However, at this time it may not be 
  38.     passed out of Fidonet without the explicit permission of the 
  39.     Moderator.  Also, it should only be passed to or from your net 
  40.     echomail hub unless he asks you to pass it on to another bbs in 
  41.     your net.

  43. 6.  Sysops (system operators) from throughout the country spend their own
  44.     hard-earned $$$ to make these echos available for your pleasure and
  45.     education.  Therefore, advertisements of any kind, and in particular,
  46.     *COMMERCIAL_ADVERTISEMENTS* are not in good taste and are *TABOO*. 
  47.     It is totally unfair to ask these sysops to pay your advertising
  48.     costs, and your cooperation here is most certainly expected.

  50. 7.  Shareware programs and advanced macro programming may be discussed
  51.     only in the PERFECT_MACRO conference which has been started solely 
  52.     for this purpose. Likewise advanced topics should be discussed in
  53.     the PERFECT_MACRO conference. This echo is geared more to the less
  54.     knowledgeable user who tends to be intimidated by advanced topics.

  56. 8.  That's all the rules folks.  They are really just common sense 
  57.     and courtesy.  Please live somewhere near if not within them and 
  58.     all will be well.  However, we must enforce them if they are 
  59.     violated.
