  7.     Welcome to SHAREWARE REVIEWS, a new, innovative, electronic
  8. newsletter that will review the best of the latest uploaded shareware in
  9. all areas.  Our objective is to help you select the software that will best
  10. fulfill your needs from among the many hundreds which are published each
  11. month.  We are truly in the midst of a creative explosion by many fine
  12. shareware authors but the quantity is overwhelming.  How can you select the
  13. very best from among a bewildering variety of publications?  Let SHAREWARE
  14. REVIEWS help you by selecting from among the finest new releases and then 
  15. providing you with brief, yet information packed reviews to help you decide 
  16. what is worth your downloading dollars and valuable time.  We have vast 
  17. experience to bring to bear upon this endeavor having had over 20 years of 
  18. professional experience in academia, advanced scientific and humanities 
  19. research, technical and journal publication, public school education, and
  20. entrepreneurial private business.  Furthermore, we are consultants in 
  21. applied statistics and shareware authors ourselves.

  23.     What is shareware?  Shareware is computer software created by small
  24. companies, often a single person operation, that is marketed on a "try 
  25. before you buy" basis.  An informed decison by any consumer should be based 
  26. upon maximum knowledge.  As a sales approach, which is remarkable for its
  27. generosity to potential customers, shareware authors create and distribute
  28. their work in a format which has at least partial or often complete
  29. functionality.  Distribution is via mail order companies which specialize in
  30. selling shareware on disk and Bulletin Board Systems, such as SOFTWARE
  31. CREATIONS, whose sysops are committed to the promotion of shareware.  By not
  32. investing in expensive brochures or the usual sort of advertising, shareware
  33. authors are determined to hold down costs and thereby, the retail prices of
  34. their products.
  35.  
  36.      Successful shareware benefits everyone because the retail price is
  37. as low as possible, placing the least stress on a user's wallet.
  38. Hopefully, a large selling volume will increase the income for the
  39. author/publisher.  Shareware authors are unusually generous and trusting.
  40. If their product is fully functional in the shareware version, which is
  41. often the case, users must feel honor bound to purchase it after the fact.
  42. Purchase is termed registration and is by mail order via forms provided
  43. within the shareware package.  We urge you to register any and all shareware
  44. you try out, like and decide to use.  If the shareware does not fulfill your
  45. needs, pass it on to someone who might be interested, thereby giving the
  46. shareware more exposure.

  48.       Unlike browsing in a book store where there is no possibility of
  49. keeping the book without payment (short of theft), all of us could "steal"
  50. our favorite shareware if so inclined.  If we are not honorable, this
  51. generous marketing approach is in danger of disappearing.  Furthermore, many
  52. authors are highly creative and innovative while exploring areas still
  53. untouched by major corporations.  Often their products are as full featured
  54. and "deep" as any offered in the mainstream, highly advertised marketplace
  55. and may, in fact, incorporate an approach that cannot be found anywhere else.

  57.      SHAREWARE REVIEWS (versions 2 & 3) will be available only through
  58. SOFTWARE CREATIONS which is an extraordinary Bulletin Board System.  The 
  59. founder and sysop is Dan Linton who is perhaps the most aggressive promoter 
  60. of shareware in the country.  He is also a very successful software author 
  61. and publisher in his own right.  SOFTWARE CREATIONS is huge and very user 
  62. friendly, as I'm certain you've already discovered if you downloaded 
  63. SHAREWARE REVIEWS.  Personally, I have never seen a board whose menus and 
  64. screens are this attractive!  As of this date, Dan has over 8GB of files in 
  65. well organized directories, 85 phone lines and provides many other 
  66. interesting and valuable services.  Everything reviewed in SHAREWARE REVIEWS

  69. worth the $45/year, perhaps the lowest subscription fee for any board of

  73.     SHAREWARE REVIEWS is published monthly by SOFTWARE CREATIONS and is
  74. provided in three versions.  In each, the reviews will be in "plain
  75. vanilla" ASCII format so that any DOS based, generic file viewer can be used
  76. to view and print them.  An electronic newsletter of brief one paragraph
  77. reviews, of which you now have a copy, will be distributed around the first
  78. of each month (except for August).  At SOFTWARE CREATIONS, it is available to 
  79. all callers, even new users, as freeware.  The second version contains 
  80. in-depth longer reviews of each program with many detailed specifics and 
  81. important installation hints.  The long reviews are usually a full page or 
  82. more about each of 15 different shareware programs, highlighting the most 
  83. important aspects of the program.  This will be distributed by first class 
  84. USPS on disk and will be available only by subscription at $30 for 12 issues.  
  85. The third version is available for $96 and you will receive the long 
  86. informative reviews along with each shareware program reviewed in an archived 
  87. (usually ZIP) format.  That comes to 12 monthly issues with a total of 
  88. approximately 180 programs at a cost of only $0.53 or less per program.  
  89.  
  90.     SHAREWARE REVIEWS will publish 11 issues per year (with a combined July/
  91. August issue), therefore, a subscription will encompass 13 months.  Unless 
  92. you live within the SOFTWARE CREATIONS area code, your phone bill to download 
  93. this many programs would exceed the subscription price.  Single back issues 
  94. of each month's shareware files are available at $12/monthly for a set of 
  95. disks.  These prices includes all costs: disks, shipping and handling.

  97.     We hope to set an industry standard with SHAREWARE REVIEWS.  Glitzy
  98. no; valuable intelligent reviews, yes.  If you find only one program each year

  206.      2DO is a powerful Personal Information Manager (PIM) with an 
  207. exceptionally well designed interface and exceptional depth of features which 
  208. makes powerful use of the drag and drop capability of Windows.  Unlike most 
  209. PIMs, the primary object in 2DO is not time but the obvious and intuitive 
  210. task itself.  The template for adding a task to the To Do List is user 
  211. friendly and all fields except Title are optional.  2DO supports many types 
  212. of recursion and provides drop boxes that take the guess work out of assigning 
  213. Date Codes.  A Calendar, Day Glance and Week Planner supplement the To Do List 
  214. and can be used with drag and drop to rapidly edit task entries.  A handy 
  215. Trash Can knows not to delete recursive tasks.  Extensive customization of 
  216. sorting, display and desktop is a breeze.  Daily work will be a bit more 
  217. enjoyable with 2DO; not too many PIM's are this fun to use.  Registration is

  248. is exceptionally well designed and user friendly.  If you know what baud rate 
  249. your modem uses and which port it is connected to, you can enjoy the power 
  250. and speed of COMMO at any level of experience.  When first starting COMMO,    
  251. type 'guide' at the DOS prompt and the demo will lead you into the Setup 
  252. File and Dialing Directory which you must customize for your equipment and 
  253. preferences.  Few changes are needed and well written context sensitive help 
  254. is available.  X and Y modem are built into COMMO; if you wish to use Z

  292. educational.  If you have any taste for mathematical philosophy, explore the
  293. fourth dimension that our physiology cannot perceive and contemplate a wider 
  294. universe.  HYPERGEO displays 3-D projections of 4-D geometric objects (the 
  295. section produced by slicing the 4-D object with a hyperplane) which may be 
  296. scaled, rotated, have their parameters altered, captured to a PCX file and 
  297. animated.  Topological changes produced by different values assigned to the

  312.         LEONARDO is a user friendly ANSI graphics program that also supports 
  313. files in ASCII and binary format.  For those who wish to quickly create 
  314. display screens, or just experiment with ANSI imagery in a free form manner 
  315. and who do not need great depth of features, LEONARDO is a fine tool.  Its 
  316. approach to animations is superb and the learning curve for all of LEONARDO's 
  317. capabilities is extremely short.  Beginners must be careful to save their 
  318. images with an .ANS extension.  A mouse is required to work with LEONARDO.  A 
  319. manual and screen capture utility are also included in this archive.

  332.     MATHPLOT is a well designed mathematics plotting program whose 
  333. clean, uncluttered interface belies its power and sophistication.  Any of 
  334. four types of equations may be entered, domains for calculation specified if 
  335. desired, and plots easily generated.  Up to four equations of the same type 
  336. may be plotted simultaneously and pi and e are available as constants.  Up 
  337. to nine parameters may be incorporated in functions to take numeric 
  338. assignments.  A long list of functions is available including several that 
  339. allow for work with integrals, gamma and bessel functions.  A variety of 
  340. commands access utilties and allow the user to customize the display.

  353.     MULTISYS is a straightforward, user friendly multiple configuration 
  354. manager that can create and store up to 50 sets of system files.  The 
  355. instructions are very clear and your default system files are protected from 
  356. editing.  When adding a new configuration, MULTISYS loads your default 
  357. system files into its editor (copies not originals) which is an approach 
  358. that saves many keystrokes and much time.  Simply Select a configuration by 
  359. name and rebooting takes place.  This very well designed configuration 
  360. manager is better designed than the one included with DOS 6 and is another

  374.     NIGHT RAID is one wicked good arcade game in which you maneuver an 
  375. enormous artillery cannon to shoot down enemy planes and blow their 
  376. paratroopers out of the sky.  If three of the enemy reach the ground, your 
  377. doom is sealed as they sneak into your bunker and blow you sky-high.  While 
  378. successfully destroying the enemy's planes and troops is not difficult, 
  379. accumulating points during competitive play is the real challenge.  Granted 
  380. you have unlimited ammunition but you are penalized one point for each shot
  381. taken.  The graphics are terrific, the adrenalin rush right on target and 
  382. the illusion of instant success a challenge to be overcome.  NIGHT RAID is

  418. game of TRIVIA SHELL may be individualized from the Setup Game menu.  From 
  419. one to four players may play a game of TRIVIA SHELL and you can specify the 
  420. number of questions to be answered in each round: other options involve 
  421. bonuses and penalties.

  423. of each game contains 150 questions and has some functions disabled.  2) The

  439.     RIPTERM is a major BBS interface innovation now under development 
  440. which offers the user a graphical interface with buttons to mouse click 
  441. upon.  The potential for displaying gorgeous graphics and attracting a host 
  442. of new BBS users is there, if they can be made comfortable with the familiar
  443. ANSI prompt demands which remain under and between the graphics screens.

  462.     Poor Rover is trapped in a maze from which he must be rescued before 
  463. he dies from lack of food, water and love.  Roger, his heart-broken owner, 
  464. must meet this most difficult challenge or lose his beloved friend forever. 
  465. Killer robots roam the maze and wickedly accurate laser turrets,  
  466. programmed to fire at Roger, are everywhere, yet assistance and protection is 
  467. available also.  RESCUE ROVER is great fun and played from the keyboard or

  493.       TRIVIA SHELLs are fascinating, engaging, interactive games which will
  494. challenge your knowledge about your favorite subject.  TRIVIA SHELLs have 
  495. three levels of play; Beginner (true-false), Intermediate (default, multiple 
  496. choice) and Advanced (fill-in-the-blank).  You can you choose the level of 
  497. play and also toggle such features as Humor (you will get teased!), Sound, 
  498. Randomize Questions, Allow Hints, Display Answer, Repeat Wrong Answer and 
  499. Timed Play (default is 30 seconds).  The Browse menu allows you to choose 
  500. groups of questions to examine by keyword and review their answers.  Each 
  501. game of TRIVIA SHELL may be individualized from the Setup Game menu.  From 
  502. one to four players may play a game of TRIVIA SHELL and you can specify the 
  503. number of questions to be answered in each round: other options involve 
  504. bonuses and penalties. 
  505.     TRIVIA SHELLs are published in four versions.  1) The shareware version 
  506. of each game contains 150 questions and has some functions disabled.  2) The 
  507. Classic contains 300 questions and sells for $11.95.  3) The Deluxe contains 
  508. 600 questions and sells for $16.95.  4) The Gold, which is not yet available 
  509. for all published TRIVIA SHELLs, has a 1,000 question database and retails

  523.         Need a break from fast-paced aracde games?  Want a fun-filled brain
  524. challenge?  SQUAREZ is truly the next generation of puzzle games.  The 
  525. objective is deceptively simple: create as many 3 x 3 squarez as you 
  526. can as quickly as possible, from the tile groups (2 or more) presented by 
  527. the computer.  Fascinating complexity is built-in it at the two highest 
  528. levels of play where a variety of dynamic tiles and objects add a great many 
  529. options, some of which are presented by the computer at random.  Bombs, 
  530. missiles, barriers, splooge, corrosive acid, spikes, pyramids and tiles that 
  531. can turn into anything when activated are just some of inhabitants of 
  532. SQUAREZ.  This shareware version allows play only against the computer:

  547.     WINGRAPH is a superb graphing program for Windows aimed at students 
  548. and teachers who possess an intermediate level of mathematics capability.
  549. Employing a simple, straighforward syntax, equations are entered in a dialog 
  550. box and then quickly plotted.  Two equations may be displayed simultaneously 
  551. and solutions based upon cursor postion are quickly calculated for 2-D graphs   
  552. with a click of mouse button.  A symbol box may be displayed while entering 
  553. equations so that beginning students will be at ease: I cannot imagine a 
  554. graphing program with an easier learning curve than WINGRAPH.  Axes rotation 
  555. and and solution range may be user specified and the display customized.
