SCOUTS CANADA
PURPOSE/AIM, PRINCIPLES, OBJECTIVES, PROMISES, LAWS, MOTTOS, SLOGAN
PURPOSE/AIM
The purpose of the Corporation and its Aim are to help boys, youth and
adults develop their character as resourceful and responsible members of
the community by providing opportunities and guidance for their mental,
physical, social and spiritual development.
PRINCIPLES
Man must, to the best of his ability,
Love and Serve God;
Respect and act in accordance with the human dignity and rights of
individuals;
Recognize the obligations on himself to develop and maintain his
potential.
The principles apply to the three basic areas of a person's growth and
development:
- Relationship to GOD
- Relationship to OTHERS
- Relationship to SELF
Principles such as these, are as old as civilization itself; we have lived
with them since earliest recorded history. These principles are basic
guidelines to behaviour in our society and they form the springboard for
the development of customs and laws. They are values in which Scouts
Canada believe and highly prize.
The principles are intended to form the basis for thought and action of all
members of Scouts Canada. Promises and Laws are statements based on the
principles which set out expected codes of behaviour for specific age
groups. They express the principles in terms readily understandable and
acceptable to the age group for which they are written.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
Program objectives are statements which indicate the goals toward which the
efforts of all program sections are directed. They provide direct guidance
to the achievement of the Aim, giving expression to the principles of
Scouts Canada. They determine the content and method of the program and
provide a basis for its evaluation. The program which arises from these
objectives must meet the needs and desires of a particular group of young
people in a particular environment at a particular time.
The Program Objectives of Scouts Canada provide opportunities and guidance
for members to develop and demonstrate a personal:
- understanding of God;
- ability to accept responsibility for themselves mentally, physically,
socially, spiritually, and for the consequences of their actions;
- ability to respond to others in caring ways;
- awareness of and concern for the environment.
