  7. TITLE      IBM PC DOS VERSION 6.1
  8. ABSTRACT          PC DOS Version 6.1 is the significantly enhanced primary
  9.            operating system for entry-level IBM and compatible OEM personal
  10.            computer systems.  PC DOS Version 6.1 features a library of
  11.            integrated DOS utilities that result from alliances with
  12.            award-winning software vendors and IBM Research.  The utilities
  13.            include:
  14.            o   Disk compression *
  15.            o   Anti-virus
  16.            o   Full-screen backup
  17.            o   New full-screen editor
  18.            o   Program scheduler.
  19.                   PC DOS Version 6.1 provides important additional features such
  20.            as new hardware support (PEN, PCMCIA), a memory optimizer to access
  21.            more memory in order to run applications better, a program scheduler
  22.            with a full-screen calendar that allows day or night program
  23.            scheduling, and a powerful new editor that provides new capabilities,
  24.            such as draw, box, sort and add, plus the ability to edit multiple
  25.            files.  In addition, the DOS kernel is smaller and overall
  26.            performance is improved.  PC DOS Version 6.1 extends memory expansion
  27.            to 8086/88 and 80286 systems by providing device drivers that can
  28.            utilize a wide variety of video and expanded memory adapters to load
  29.            applications high.
  30.                   Two versions of the product are offered:  a base product for
  31.            new systems, and a full PC DOS Version 6.1 upgrade package capable of
  32.            upgrading over any existing DOS (Version 2.1, or higher, installed on
  33.            a hard disk) at a significantly reduced cost.
  34.                   DOS 5.02 continues to be available to customers who do not
  35.            require PC DOS 6.1 utilities and features.
  36.            *  Disk compression will not be included in the product initially.
  37.               It is planned to be available, at no additional charge, by
  38.               September 30, 1993.  To obtain disk compression after
  39.               availability, submit the special coupon included in the product
  40.               shipment group.  Allow four to six weeks for delivery.

  104.            by IBM and OEMs at PC DOS Version 6.1 general availability.  Assuming
  105.            equivalent systems configurations and adequate memory, applications
  106.            that execute on one processor will execute similarly on all other
  107.            processors (except for performance and known incompatibilities

  112.            MAINTAINS INTERFACES (COMPATIBILITY):  PC DOS Version 6.1 continues
  113.            to provide an open system architecture that can be expanded via
  114.            system extensions, device drivers and future enhancements.  It also
  115.            continues to allow applications to use DOS extensions.  Application
  116.            interfaces have been maintained and tested.
  117.            PROVIDES EASY UPGRADE:  PC DOS Version 6.1 provides full PC DOS
  118.            function with installation specific programs that allow and aid
  119.            previous IBM and compatible DOS users to upgrade to PC DOS
  120.            Version 6.1 at a significantly lower price.  A prior version of IBM
  121.            or compatible DOS (Version 2.1, or higher) must exist on the
  122.            installation system hard disk.
  123.            PRODUCT POSITIONING
  124.            PC DOS Version 6.1 should be considered cross-industry and in OEM
  125.            channels as the primary operating system for the entry level IBM and
  126.            IBM-compatible personal computer systems.  PC DOS Version 6.1 should
  127.            also be considered as the operating system for non-entry IBM and
  128.            IBM-compatible systems, when advanced solutions, very large memory,
  129.            storage protection and multi-tasking are not required.
  130.                   The PC DOS kernel is based off the MS (1)-DOS 6 kernel and is
  131.            compatible with Windows (1) 3.X, Windows Applications, DOS extenders
  132.            and DOS applications.

  161. TECHINFO   TECHNICAL INFORMATION
  162.            SPECIFIED OPERATING ENVIRONMENT
  163.            MACHINE REQUIREMENTS:  PC DOS Version 6.1 will operate on all
  164.            Intel-based personal computers (8088, 286, 386, and higher).
  165.                   The minimum processor system memory required for PC DOS
  166.            Version 6.1 installation is 512KB.  A new system (one without a
  167.            previous version of DOS installed) should also have a 720KB, 1.44MB
  168.            or 2.88MB 3.5-inch or a 360KB or 1.2MB 5.25-inch "A:" diskette drive.
  169.            The PC DOS Version 6.1 Upgrade requires a system with a prior version
  170.            of DOS (Version 2.1, or higher) installed on the hard disk.
  171.            Installation on upgrade systems can occur either from any diskette
  172.            drive or from the network to the hard disk.
  173.            PROGRAMMING REQUIREMENTS
  174.            COMPATIBILITY:  PC DOS Version 6.1 maintains upward compatibility
  175.            with prior versions of IBM DOS.  Support of functions supported on
  176.            previous levels will be continued, unless a specific function is no
  177.            longer supported by IBM.  Functions no longer supported in PC DOS
  178.            Version 6.1 include QBASIC and BASICA.  However, QBASIC and BASICA
  179.            from prior versions of DOS should continue to run compatibly with PC
  180.            DOS Version 6.1.
  181.            LIMITATIONS:  Applications supported on previous levels of DOS should
  182.            run compatibly with PC DOS Version 6.1.  However, with each release
  183.            of DOS, adding new features introduces some incompatibilities.  Below
  184.            is a list of changes that may cause compatibility problems.
  185.            o   A20 Gate Handling.
  186.                       DOS 5.0 toggled the A20 line on and off as needed and
  187.                resulted in a performance penalty but aided compatibility with
  188.                older applications that made assumptions about the state of A20.
  189.                PC DOS Version 6.1, when loaded high (DOS=HIGH), keeps the A20
  190.                line enabled for performance reasons.  If users find that this is
  191.                a problem they should load DOS low (DOS=LOW).
  192.            o   No BACKUP.COM
  193.                       The BACKUP command has been replaced with the new
  194.                full-screen backup program CPBACKUP.  CPBACKUP is superior in
  195.                every way to BACKUP but incompatible, both in name, switches and
  196.                backup format.  To enable users to restore backups made with
  197.                previous releases of DOS the RESTORE command will be shipped as
  198.                part of PC DOS Version 6.1.  Also if the user has BACKUP.COM, it
  199.                will not be deleted when PC DOS Version 6.1 is installed.
  200.            o   New SMARTDRV
  201.                       The SMARTDRV disk cache program is redesigned totally
  202.                causing the invocation and command line options to change.
  203.                Install will automatically make the necessary changes to
  204.                CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT.
  205.            o   MIRROR replaced with DATAMON
  206.                       Some of the function of the DOS 5.0 MIRROR command is
  207.                integrated into DATAMON.  Users that used to run MIRROR will need
  208.                to run DATAMON instead.
  209.            o   EDIT replaced with E
  210.                       The DOS 5.0 full-screen editor EDIT is replaced in PC DOS
  211.                Version 6.1 with E.  E is superior to EDIT in functionality but
  212.                has a different user interface.  Users that select EDITOR from
  213.                the DOSSHELL and expect EDIT will get E instead.  Install will
  214.                not delete the users DOS 5.0 EDIT and QBASIC so current EDIT
  215.                users can still run it.  E was purposely not named EDIT to make
  216.                this possible.
  217.            o   No BASICA or QBASIC
  218.                       PC DOS Version 6.1 will not ship any BASIC interpreter.
  219.                Customers that already have DOS installed can still run their
  220.                BASIC or QBASIC product because install does not delete it.
  221.            o   Disk Compression
  222.                       Compressed disks represent a departure from current DOS
  223.                versions.  Users who compress their hard disk will not be able to
  224.                boot an older version of DOS and view files on their hard disk.
  225.                Compressed diskettes are also possible with PC DOS Version 6.1
  226.                but pose no compatibility problem since they contain a TSR
  227.                program which will allow the diskette to be read by systems
  228.                running older versions of DOS.
  229.            PERFORMANCE CONSIDERATIONS
  230.            PLANNING INFORMATION
  231.            IBM TECHNICAL SUPPORT FOR PC DOS VERSION 6.1 PRELOADED ON IBM PC
  232.            HARDWARE:  Technical Support may be provided by the PS Programming
  233.            Support Center or by the PC HelpCenter (R) depending on the hardware
  234.            system the customer purchased.  For customers supported by the PC
  235.            HelpCenter, the customer will call 800-772-2227.  The HelpCenter is
  236.            available 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week.  If after analysis, a
  237.            product defect is suspected, the suspected defect is forwarded to the
  238.            DOS Product Support Group for resolution.

  241.            IBM TECHNICAL SUPPORT FOR THE PC DOS VERSION 6.1 RETAIL PACKAGE:  IBM
  242.            technical support is available for a period of 60 days.  An
  243.            entitlement process will ensure that each customer receives 60 days'
  244.            free service.  The 60-day period begins when the customer makes the
  245.            first call to the PS Programming Support Center.  After 60 days,
  246.            service offerings are available.  The service offerings and the
  247.            service entitlement process are described at the end of this section.
  248.            PS PROGRAMMING SUPPORT CENTER:  The telephone number for service is
  249.            800-992-4777.  Telephone calls may be placed to the Support Center 24
  250.            hours/day, 7 days/week.  End users may call the Support Center at any
  251.            time; however, the normal hours for technical support are 8:00 a.m.
  252.            to 8:00 p.m., Eastern time, Monday through Friday; and 9:00 a.m. to
  253.            6:00 p.m., Eastern time on Saturday and Sunday.  During these hours,
  254.            calls placed to the Support Center are switched to a technician via
  255.            live call transfer.
  256.                   Calls placed to the PS Programming Support Center outside the
  257.            hours for normal technical support, are placed in a Queue in RETAIN
  258.            (TM).  The customer would be called back during the normal hours of
  259.            technical support.  During technical support operation, IBM will
  260.            provide telephone assistance in solving a technical usage problem or
  261.            attempt to provide a circumvention or bypass for a code or
  262.            documentation problem.  If a problem is reported that requires
  263.            development resolution, the customer is told that the problem
  264.            reported appears to be in the product code.  The customer is placed
  265.            on an interested party list and is notified when corrected code is
  266.            available.

  268.            CENTRAL SERVICE:  IBM Central Service will respond, upon request from
  269.            an end user, to a defect in the unaltered portion of a supported
  270.            release or licensed program.  Corrective service includes corrected
  271.            documentation, corrected code, notice of availability of corrected
  272.            code, or a restriction or a bypass as determined by IBM.  Defect
  273.            support is only applicable if found to occur in the operating
  274.            environment in which the product was intended.
  275.            SUPPORT FOR LARGE ACCOUNTS:  Technical coordinators and IBM
  276.            representatives have access to a RETAIN file via IBMLink (TM).  The
  277.            RETAIN file provides product defect information such as the
  278.            description of a defect, the severity of the defect and the current
  279.            status relative to resolution.

  281.            CORRECTIVE SERVICE
  282.            CIRCUMVENTION OR BYPASS:  A circumvention or a bypass may be provided
  283.            by IBM to correct a given problem.  This corrective action is
  284.            provided by IBM Technical Support operating in live call transfer
  285.            mode.
  286.            PRIVATE FIXES:  Private Fixes are given to a specific customer to
  287.            correct a specific problem.
  288.            SERVICEPAKS (CSDS):  Corrective Service Diskettes, referred to as
  289.            ServicePaks, will be released as needed during the period of service
  290.            for the product.  ServicePaks contain accumulated "code fixes" during
  291.            that period.  ServicePaks are installed by the customer at the
  292.            customer's location using a CSD Installation Program.  Notification
  293.            of the availability of the latest ServicePak will be posted on the
  294.            PCC BBS and TalkLink Bulletin Board System.
  295.                   ServicePaks may be obtained from one of the following sources:
  296.            o   PS Programming Support Center
  297.                       A call is placed to the PS Programming Support Center,
  298.                800-992-4777, by an end user with a problem.  If IBM Level 2
  299.                support has determined that a ServicePak is available that fixes
  300.                the problem reported, the customer can receive the latest
  301.                ServicePak.  An order is placed on the Retain file and sent to
  302.                the CSD distribution center in Boulder, Colorado.  A Valid PMR
  303.                number is a prerequisite for placing an order in Retain for a
  304.                ServicePak.  The ServicePak is then mailed to the end user from
  305.                the distribution center in Boulder.  The mailing address is that
  306.                which was reported to IBM at the time the problem was submitted.
  307.                The following can obtain ServicePaks using the methodology just
  308.                described:
  309.                -   Dealers registered as Technical Advisors
  310.                -   Dealers not registered as Technical Advisors
  311.                -   Registered Technical Coordinators
  312.                -   IBM representatives
  313.                -   Any end user who has acquired a license to PC DOS
  314.                    Version 6.1.
  315.            o   The Dealer or Point-of-Sale
  316.                       ServicePaks may be obtained from authorized dealers.  The
  317.                end user may be asked by the dealer to furnish the required
  318.                diskettes.  The Dealers have the following sources for obtaining
  319.                ServicePaks.
  320.                -   Dealers who are not Technical Advisors
  321.                    --  PS Programming Support Center
  322.                    --  Download from the Electronic Bulletin Board System (PCC
  323.                        BBS)
  324.                        o   404-835-6600, before September 1993
  325.                        o   919-517-0001, after September 1993.
  326.                -   Dealers who are registered as Technical Advisors
  327.                    --  Using The PCC BBS Electronic Ordering System
  328.                    --  Download from the Electronic Bulletin Board System (PCC

  330.            o   Obtaining ServicePaks Via PCC BBS
  331.                       The PCC BBS is available 24 hours-per-day.  Registered
  332.                Technical Advisors have access to the Bulletin Board System which
  333.                offers a menu of services as part of the Technical Advisor
  334.                program.  Dealers who are not Technical Advisors and all other
  335.                end users have access to the Bulletin Board System on a toll call
  336.                basis.  The toll number for the PCC BBS is 404-835-6600 before
  337.                September 1993, and 919-517-0001 after September 1993.
  338.                Requirements for asynchronous electronic connection to the
  339.                Bulletin Board System are:
  340.                -   A modem that supports 1200 to 9600 baud communication
  341.                -   Communication software that supports 8-bit file transfer
  342.                -   A switched telephone line
  343.                -   The modem should be set at
  344.                    --  Eight data bits
  345.                    --  No parity
  346.                    --  One-stop bit
  347.                    --  Standard transmission speed from 1200 to 9600 baud.
  348.                       The end user is instructed to "refer to the bulletin
  349.                titled CORRECTIVE SERVICE INFORMATION on the Bulletin Board
  350.                System for instructions once connected".
  351.            o   Downloading ServicePaks (CSDs) from the PCC Bulletin Board System
  352.                       Registered Technical Advisors have this service as one of
  353.                the services available on the Technical Advisor Menu.  Other end
  354.                users, including dealers who are not registered Technical
  355.                Advisors may select this function after connecting to the
  356.                Bulletin Board System on a toll call basis.  The CSD download
  357.                includes the actual corrective service diskette in binary image,
  358.                a README file with instructions to the end user in how to perform
  359.                the installation and a licensed program that converts the binary
  360.                images to diskette at the receiving workstation.  After the
  361.                download has completed, the end user is then told how to do the
  362.                installation with information contained in the README file.
  363.            o   Electronic Ordering of ServicePaks (CSDs) on the PCC BBS
  364.                       Dealers who are registered Technical Advisors may order
  365.                CSDs as one of the services provided on the Technical Advisor
  366.                menu.  The Dealer specifies his or her name and mailing address.
  367.                A program operating on the server generates a file which is
  368.                basically the same file created by the Retain system when a level
  369.                2 support person places an order for a CSD.  The difference is
  370.                that with the electronic ordering system, a valid PMR number is
  371.                not a prerequisite to order a CSD.  The Retain file is then sent
  372.                by electronic file transfer to the VMNODE in Boulder that
  373.                contains the CSD ordering program.  A CSD mail order is then
  374.                issued to the name and address specified in the file that was
  375.                electronically generated.  Post office box numbers are not
  376.                considered valid addresses by the Boulder CSD distribution
  377.                system.
  378.            o   Obtaining ServicePaks (CSDs) from the TalkLink Bulletin Board
  379.                System
  380.                       Customers who subscribe to TalkLink receive a package that
  381.                includes the communications program as well as instructions on
  382.                how to connect to TalkLink.  Customers download ServicePaks from
  383.                TalkLink by selecting the ServicePak from the menu of services
  384.                offered on the TalkLink software libraries.
  385.            o   Obtaining ServicePaks (CSDs) from the local IBM office
  386.                       Any end user who has acquired a license to PC DOS
  387.                Version 6.1 may obtain the latest level ServicePak from a local
  388.                IBM office if the end user has a problem and a ServicePak is
  389.                available that fixes the problem.
  390.                       IBM representatives supporting large accounts have ready
  391.                access to ServicePaks (CSDs) on VMPCPROD.
  392.            PROBLEM DETERMINATION PROCEDURES
  393.            SERVICE INFORMATION:  The Service Information is contained within the
  394.            product shipment group for PC DOS Version 6.1.  Service information
  395.            is printed on the inside back cover of the User's Guide.  It contains
  396.            the telephone number of the IBM Support Center.  The customer is told
  397.            what to do relative to problem determination before contacting IBM
  398.            for support.  The end user is given guidelines in where to go for
  399.            additional technical information and is told how to obtain
  400.            ServicePaks (CSDs) from IBM.  The customer is also told they have
  401.            free technical support for a period of 60 days, and that the 60-day
  402.            period begins when the first call is made to IBM for support.  The
  403.            customer is told that service offerings will be available after the
  404.            60 day free period and to contact the PS Programming Center at
  405.            800-992-4777 to find out more about the offerings.
  406.            ELECTRONIC BULLETIN BOARD SYSTEMS
  407.            PCC BULLETIN BOARD SYSTEM:  The IBM PC Company Electronic Bulletin
  408.            Board System (PCC BBS), is owned and maintained by the IBM PC
  409.            Company.
  410.                   Registered Technical Advisors have a variety of services such
  411.            as ordering information, technical bulletins and corrective service
  412.            diskette (CSD) downloading.  Other end users may access the Bulletin
  413.            Board System by calling the toll number (providing they have the
  414.            hardware/software required).  The toll number is 404-835-6600, before
  415.            September 1993, and 919-517-0001 after September 1993.
  416.                   The major services provided by the PCC BBS are:
  417.            o   End User Message Conferencing
  418.                       Questions are placed on the BBS by end users and answers
  419.                are appended to the question by other end users.
  420.            o   News and Announcements
  421.                       View recent information regarding products and services.
  422.            o   Software Library
  423.                       The customer can download application programs, device
  424.                drivers, ServicePaks (CSDs), and SelectPaks (Fixes).
  425.            o   Electronic Ordering of ServicePaks (CSDs)
  426.                       This service is available to Technical Advisors only.  The
  427.                order is sent to the CSD distribution center in Boulder and the
  428.                ServicePak is mailed to the dealer who placed the electronic
  429.                order.
  430.            TALKLINK:  The TalkLink Bulletin Board System is owned by the
  431.            Electronic Information and Delivery Systems organization located in
  432.            Atlanta, Georgia.
  433.                   IBM TalkLink is the world wide IBM Electronic Bulletin Board
  434.            System available via a subscription.
  435.            o   Conferences and Forums
  436.                       There are several DOS Question and Answer Bulletin Boards

  459.            SERVICE ENTITLEMENT AND SERVICE OFFERINGS
  460.            ENTITLEMENT:  Customers who obtain PC DOS Version 6.1 are entitled to
  461.            60 days free technical support.  The 60 days free support begins when
  462.            the customer makes his or her first telephone call to IBM.  When a
  463.            customer calls IBM for support, they are asked to provide the serial
  464.            number of their product, which is printed on separate stickers
  465.            included in the product shipment group.  The customer is instructed
  466.            to place one of these stickers on the back cover of the User's Guide
  467.            for easy reference.  The product serial number is used to entitle the
  468.            customer to 60 days free support.  There is no limit to the number of
  469.            times the customer can contact IBM for support within the 60 day free
  470.            support period.
  471.            SERVICE OFFERINGS:  After the 60 day free support period, the
  472.            customer will be given the option to obtain one or more service
  473.            offerings that will be made available by IBM.  The customer is told
  474.            in the service information (printed on the inside of back cover of
  475.            the User's Guide) that they can find out more about these offerings
  476.            by contacting the PS Programming Support Center at 800-992-4777.
  477.            DEFINITIONS
  478.            END USER:  An End User may be a System Engineer, Technical
  479.            Coordinator, a Dealer, and any other person who uses DOS in its
  480.            intended operating environment.
  481.            SERVICEPAKS (CSDS):  Corrective Service Diskettes, referred to as
  482.            ServicePaks contain corrected code that address problems reported by
  483.            customers.  The corrected code contains an accumulation of code fixes
  484.            (APARs) that address code defects reported.
  485.            TECHNICAL ADVISOR:  A dealer that has registered with the National
  486.            Support Center as a Technical Advisor.  The Technical Advisor package
  487.            includes a set of services available on an Electronic Bulletin Board
  488.            System.
  489.            TECHNICAL COORDINATOR:  A person who has been designated to
  490.            coordinate technical and service activity for others.  This person is
  491.            an employee of an account that is serviced by IBM direct channel
  492.            marketing and support.
  493.            CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITIES:  Customers are expected to perform problem
  494.            determination procedures and to seek assistance when required.  Those
  495.            end users who have access to technical Coordinators and Registered
  496.            Technical Advisors are expected to obtain assistance from those
  497.            sources before contacting IBM with a problem.  Customers are expected
  498.            to furnish additional data when requested to do so by IBM.  Customers
  499.            are also responsible to install Corrective Service Diskettes using
  500.            procedures supplied by IBM.  Technical Coordinators and Technical
  501.            Advisors or Technical Liaisons working in System Centers are expected
  502.            to do the following:
  503.            o   Determine whether the problem is hardware or software
  504.            o   Determine whether the software problem is technical usage
  505.                suspected defect
  506.            o   Identify which software is causing the problem
  507.            o   Submit data to IBM for analysis
  508.            o   Receive corrective service from IBM
  509.            o   Assist the end user in applying corrective service.
  510.            INSTALLABILITY
  511.            PACKAGING:  Distribution of PC DOS Version 6.1 will be on high
  512.            density 3.5-inch (1.44MB) and 5.25-inch (1.2MB) media.  Upgrade and
  513.            base packages will be offered for retail.
  514.                   Low density diskettes will be available separately and may be
  515.            ordered with a coupon.
  516.                   The program package for PC DOS Version 6.1 and PC DOS
  517.            Version 6.1 Upgrade, U.S. English, 3.5-inch media (61G1550 and
  518.            71G2245) consists of four 3.5-inch high-density (1.44MB) diskettes

  537.                   The separate documentation package for PC DOS 6.1 (61G1552)

  544.            SECURITY, AUDITABILITY AND CONTROL
  545.                   Anti-virus protection has been added to PC DOS Version 6.1 to
  546.            help customers automatically detect and eliminate known stealth,
  547.            polymorphic, generic, and even unknown viruses without damaging any
  548.            of the customer's files or applications.  There are no new
  549.            auditability or control features in PC DOS Version 6.1.
  550.                   User management is responsible for evaluation, selection, and
  551.            implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and
  552.            appropriate controls in application systems and communication
  553.            facilities.
  554. ORDERING   ORDERING INFORMATION
  555.                   Orders for new licenses for PC DOS Version 6.1 will be
  556.            accepted now.  Unless a later date is specified, orders entered prior
  557.            to the planned availability dates will be assigned a schedule date of
  558.            July 26, 1993.  Shipment of orders will commence on the availability
  559.            date.  Orders for PC DOS Version 6.1 entered after the availability
  560.            date will be scheduled for shipment on the Friday following the week
  561.            of order entry or as soon thereafter as supply permits.

  690.                   The IBM Education Fulfillment Center is the order processing
  691.            location for selected Personal Computers and related

  693.            PROGRAM UPGRADE
  694.                   The program package upgrade option allows currently licensed
  695.            users of all prior IBM and compatible DOS versions to obtain the new
  696.            function for a program upgrade charge.  For most users, the upgrade
  697.            option is fulfilled via the PC DOS Version 6.1 Upgrade, a separately
  698.            packaged program.  This program upgrades the user from prior IBM and
  699.            compatible DOS Versions 2.1, or higher.  The PC DOS Version 6.1
  700.            Upgrade program requires that one of these previous DOS versions is
  701.            present on a fixed disk prior to installing the upgrade.  The
  702.            customer is authorized to run both the prior DOS program and the PC
  703.            DOS Version 6.1 Upgrade program on the same system unit.  However,
  704.            separate transfer of either program is not allowed.
  705.                   The program may be obtained through IBM Authorized Personal
  706.            Computer Dealers and Industry Remarketers beginning July 26, 1993.
  707.            Orders will be accepted after July 26, 1993.
  708.                   Additionally, end users may order the PC DOS Version 6.1
  709.            Upgrade program at the single unit price by calling the PS/2 (R) Help
  710.            Center, 800-772-2227.
  711.            NOTE: Because the PC DOS Version 6.1 Upgrade program will not allow
  712.            end users with DOS versions prior to DOS 2.1 and/or end users not
  713.            having fixed disks to perform the upgrade, the following special
  714.            procedure has been put in place.
  715.                   End users may call the PS/2 Help Center, 800-772-2227 and
  716.            order the PC DOS Version 6.1 Upgrade program package at the single
  717.            unit price of the PC DOS Version 6.1 Upgrade program.  In this case,
  718.            the end user will be required to furnish proof of license of a
  719.            previous version of DOS.  That proof of license can be a "Proof of
  720.            License" or the cover page of their previous DOS manual.  Only
  721.            originals will be accepted.  Upon receipt of the required proof of
  722.            license, the order will be filled.

  724.                   To receive program package upgrades at a discount, the ICA and
  725.            a Volume Discount Addendum with the appropriate volume discount
