  3. LS/2000                 SEARCHING STYLES
  4.  
  5. The LS/2000 system offers two searching styles:
  6.  
  7.     Keyword -   Use this style when you are unsure of the exact term,
  8.                 author, name, or title that you wish to search.
  9.  
  10.                 Enter a word or phrase and press RETURN
  11.  
  12.     Heading -   Use this style when you are sure of how the library
  13.                 describes the author, title, or subject that you are
  14.                 searching.
  15.  
  16.                 Enter the number of the search you want to use, and when
  17.                 prompted, enter as much of the BEGINNING of the heading as
  18.                 you are sure of.

  20. LS/2000           HOW TO ENTER SEARCH TERMS
  21.  
  22. For a specific TOPIC
  23.  
  24.   - you are unsure of library           Enter a KEY WORD you know
  25.     terminology for the topic
  26.  
  27.   - you are certain of the library's    When prompted, enter
  28.     subject heading                     the first word(s) of subject
  29.                                         heading
  30.  
  31. For an AUTHOR
  32.     When prompted enter the author's name Last, First
  33.  
  34. For an ORGANIZATION or GOVERNMENT AGENCY or CONFERENCE
  35.     When prompted, enter the first word or words of the
  36.     organization or conference name
  37.  
  38. For a TITLE
  39.     When prompted, enter the first word or words of the title
  40.  
  41. LS/2000               SEARCHING HINTS
  42.  
  43.     -    Press RETURN after each entry.  This lets the LS/2000 system know
  44.          that you are ready for it to begin work.
  45.  
  46.     -    Less is better than more.  The system will always show you all
  47.          entries that begin with what you enter.  So if you enter "book"
  48.          you will see any entries that begin with "Book" or "Books".
  49.  
  50.     -    The "^" key will take you one step backward in your search.
  51.  
  52.     -    When a list ends with "more", you may
  53.  
  54.          - Press RETURN to see the next part of the list
  55.          - Enter "/B" to see the previous list.
