  6. At the main menu you can choose between:
  7. Library University of Groningen
  8. Catalogue Netherlands Institute, located Rome
  9. Catalogue of other libraries (e.g. Royal Library in the Hague)
  10.  
  11. The help status-line shows:
  12. HLP     For Information (Help-mode)
  13. STR     For returning at any time to the main menu (you're now in it)
  14. STP     For quitting use of the OPC (but not quiting the connection)
  15. OVE     For comments to the ICP of Groningen
  16.  
  17. When choosing option 1 from the main menu you'll first get an
  18. introductory screen saying:

  20. The OPC of the Uni of Groningen contains
  21. - Some books published before 1981
  22. - All books publshed after 1981
  23. - Most of the periodicals
  24. - And all books needed for courses
  25.  
  26. Below the second line it says:
  27.  
  28. Hit ENTER when you have selected the right database. If you want a
  29. different database type BES followed by ENTER.

  31. The help status-line down shows a new command:
  32. BES     For switching between the available databases
  33.  
  34. If you hit RETURN again the next screen will offer you the choice
  35. between the next options:
  36.  
  37. 1.      Word(s) in title
  38. 2.      Author
  39. 3.      Person's name used as keyword
  40. 4.      Etc.

  42. The help status-line shows more commands:
  43.  
  44. KLE     For making an already made selection (e.g. auteur) smaller by
  45.         using another selection criterion (e.g. only published after
  46.         1990).
  47. GRO     The opposite of the above
  48. IND     For setting the database in INDEX-mode and the opportunity of browsing
  49.         through it.

  51. Your screen will now give you the results of your request and you may
  52. choose from any of these hits by typing the corresponding number of one
  53. of them for full documentation.

  55. When you're looking for an author as selection-criterion just type the
  56. corresponding number and you will be asked to enter a name at the prompt.
  57. The same goes for all the other selection-criteria.

  59. Press ENTER and the cursor will move to the command-line. You have now
  60. two possibilities. First you could start searching at the previously
  61. entered singular selection criterion by just pressing ENTER or secondly
  62. you could add a selection criterion (up to 4) to make your hits larger
  63. or smaller.

  65. The help status-line down shows new commands:
  66. MRK     Marking of a single record
  67. WIS     Unmarking of all marked records
  68.  
  69. Different commands you can encounter are:
  70. KOR     Means short presentation of the selected record (only display of
  71.         title, author, publisher and date of publication)
  72. LEN     Information on the status of loaning
