QUESTIONS ANSWERED
#####################################################################
This chapter should answer any of the questions you have about herbs
and their uses.
If you have never used herbs before purchase a good herb book, such
as "Back to Eden" by Jethro Kloss, your local bookstore is sure to
handle it.
People often wonder how many times during the day they should take
herbs. The best way is to begin with small or mild doses, 1 or 2
times daily until you see how the herb will affect you. The usual
daily dose is 1 cup of tea or 1 or 2 capsules, 3 times a day.
Results of using herbs varies from person to person and depends on
your regularity and how often you use the herbs. Some people get
results in a week, but figure on using them for 1 month for each
year you have had your specific problem. Herbs work with the body
to affect natural healing, they don't push the body.
Most persons stop taking medication when they feel better, this is
a mistake. It is usually best to continue for a month or so, but
really the frequency with which you use herbs is up to you.
If several ailments are present at the same time, it is usually
better to begin with the major problem first. For example: if
Sinus Headaches plague you, start there.
Many wonder if it is safe to take herbs with a Doctor's medicine.
This depends on the type of herbal medicine being used. If your
Doctor is prescribing drugs for your Sinus problems and you decide
you want to use herbs instead, consult with your Doctor, explain
the choice you have made, perhaps he will work with you to get you
off the drugs slowly. Consult with your Doctor, a good one will
work with you. On the other hand if you want to take herbs for
constipation, herbs for this problem won't interfere with the
drugs your Doctor is prescribing, they may even help since cleaning
out the digestive system often helps relieve and speed healing in
other parts of the body! The choices of which medications and
which type of medications you use are up to you. Become informed,
make your choices, and find people who will work with you in your
decision.
Your diet is an important part of the healing process. Herbs work
more slowly and sometimes not at all if the body is abused by the
wrong types of food. For instance; it would be futile to take herbs
for Diabetes if you weren't willing to follow a diet for diabetics!
Herbs aren't an excuse for bad eating habits, but generally, if the
diet is kept on a normal basis with normal amounts of food and drink,
there isn't any reason to change ones eating and drinking habits.
Herbs and vitamins mix well, in fact, the proper combination may
bring results more quickly!
You may use more than one herb at a time, however; it is usually best
to start using only one or two, and then add additional herbs. That
way, if you have any adverse reactions to any herbs you will know
which one is affecting you.
Not all herbs taste bad, as many think. Taste is what a person gets
used to. When Coke was first introduced to the Orient, as a thirst-
quenching beverage, the local people choked and couldn't spit it out
fast enough. They thought it was the most horrible medicine they had
ever tasted! Today, how many millions of gallons of Coke are
consumed each day, simply for the taste of it! Many herbs do taste
unusual, however; you will naturally like the taste of many of them,
and grow to like the taste of others, some are even delicious! If
taste is a big problem for you, use the herbs in capsule form.
Capsule or tea......that is the question! Capsules are a good way
to take herbs fast in today's fast-paced world, and avoid the bitter
taste of some of the herbs. Capsules are easy to carry with you,
they give you doses in exact amounts, allow digestion of the complete
herb, including the healthful fiber, the body, not boiling water
extracts the acids, alkaline, and water soluble properties. Most
people find they take their herbal medicine more faithfully if taken
in the capsule form. However, tea does usually work quicker and the
potency can be adjusted. Capsules and a quick and easy Capsule Maker
can be obtained by returning to the Main Menu and choosing HERBAL
CATALOG.
Many herbs can be used continually, without harm, others only
temporarily. Again, study the herbs you wish to use and the herbs
used for specific ailments, then make your decisions. By educating
yourself you will have a wider range of choices and be taking a more
active role in your own health care.
GOOD HEALTH TO YOU!
