PLANTS SUITABLE FOR GREENHOUSES
*********************************
Basically, any plant is suitable for the greenhouse, with the
exception of tall bushes and trees. There are, of course huge green-
houses build to accommodate even these.
For the hot-house type of greenhouse, exotic orchids, tropical
fruits, and delicate vegetables thrive in humid, heated conditions.
Vegetables and flowers of a more hearty nature do just fine in an
unheated greenhouse. Some heat is needed for sprouting seeds, this
can be accomplished with heat coils. Once the seeds sprout, the new
plants do exceptionally well in the unheated greenhouse. Natural
heat will be provided during the day, and during the night the tender
plants will be protected.
Whatever you would like to try your hand at growing will more than
likely thrive for you in your own climate controlled greenhouse!
Carrots, beets, turnips, and other root crops do well in deep boxes
which fit well under benches.
Tomatoes, peas, cucumbers, and pole beans need tub-type containers.
Lettuce, or other low leafy vegetables may be planted in the tub with
the taller vegetables.
For corn, you've never seen the likes of, plant directly in the floor
of the greenhouse, in a bed prepared for it. Plant pumpkin between
the rows of corn to save space.
Experiment to see what works best for you.
Of course there will be a few uninvited guests come into your garden
oasis. To get these insect pests to "bug off", return to the Main
Menu and choose the chapter, ORGANIC BUG-OFF DETERRENTS.
