NOTE TO INTERNATIONAL READERS
Dear Reader,
For orders of electronic (on-disk) publications, check each
publisher's order form's information section to see what their
policy is towards international orders of disks.
In general, you should send USA funds or a check drawn on a USA
bank. If your bank has a USA office (large, commercial banks
often have New York City branches,) then you may be able to have
a check drawn on that branch. If you can not have a check drawn
on a USA bank, your options are limited because here there is a
$40 fee for processing overseas checks, and checks of less than
$100 (USA) can not be processed. Furthermore, this processing
can take six or more weeks. Rate of exchange from your local
currency to USA dollars also have to be considered. [Canadian
checks, drawn on Canadian banks in Canadian dollars have a $5
(USA) fee to process, plus rate of exchange conversion [$4
Canadian = $3 USA.]) If not in USA funds, large orders paid by
check should be in your local currency in the amount equivalent
to the total order plus the $40 bank processing fee. For small
orders, I'd suggest that you get USA dollars from your bank and
pay in cash. This is not a good solution to the problem because
your letter could get lost in the mail or be pilfered and you
would have no recourse. Sending cash would entail a risk of loss
that you would have to consider. If you do send cash, use an
opaque envelope. It might also be possible to pay for small
orders with a USA credit card such as VISA or MASTER CARD. Check
with the publisher before ordering by credit card. [Note:
Serendipity Systems can not process credit card orders at this
time.]
Additional postage will usually be also required. $2.00 per disk
should suffice. Again, different publishers have different
policies. If an international sales policy is not stated, query
the publisher with a post card or letter.
When submitting material to a publisher, include International
Reply Coupons (available from your local post office) for the
return of your book or manuscript. Remember to send only copies
of your work; keep the originals in a safe place and make back-up
copies of your computer disks.
Sincerely,
John Galuszka
