  1. Mods for Kenwood TM941A  Triple band radio
  2.  
  3. CAP mod---cut green wire behind control panel next to speaker jack.
  4.   TX 142-152    420-450    1100-1400
  5.   RX 117-174*   400-490    1100-1400 
  6. * AM detector is switched on for aircraft band
  7.  
  8. Crossband mod
  9. Open bottom cover of radio and set the radio with control head facing you. 2 
  10.   inches over from the left side of case and on back of first board is unlabeled
  11.   blue chip resistor R58.  Remove resistor. 
  12.  
  13. Select one band with PTT indicator and the other with green indicator
  14.   for crossband repeat or
  15. Select one band with both PTT and green indicator.  (Once activated whatever
  16.   is received on the two non-selected bands will be transmitted on the 
  17.   selected band.
  18. To activate, press F for 2 seconds and then push Mute. Once activated all
  19.   functions are disabled, including the PTT key.  (In cross band repeat the 
  20.   non-active band can be selected with control select and its frequency change.)
  21. To deactivate, repeat the same as above--if activity happens during
  22.   crossband deactivation you must start over--or you can use control select 
  23.   to select inactive band and then deactivate.
  24. When the unit is transmitting any noise heard by the microphone will also be
  25.  transmitted.

  27. Wide band frequency mod.
  28.   Reconnect green wire behind control panel
  29.   Remove R19 and R20 in control head. (remove the two screws on the back 
  30.   of the control head and remove back.  Four Blue resistors will be found
  31.   on lower left side.  The are labeled R19, R20, R21, R22.)

  35.   actual operation over the entire span was not verified.

  37.   The radio wakes up in European mode, therefore frequency steps will need to 
  38.   be reset.
  39.   No aircraft VFO control with this mod--When the green wire is cut, 
  40.   aircraft frequency can be entered and stored into memory. 
  41.   Note: When the green wire is cut, the shift key no longer works and odd
  42.   splits can not be entered into memory.  The state of the wire only 
  43.   seams to mater when power is turned on.

  56. The shift key no longer works--displays the Co bell
  57. special tx frequency input doesn't work--causes memory scan
  58. instead of offset input.
  59. 2-meter stops receiving or transmitting but looks like it does anyway--
  60. possibly receives in AM only
  61. frequency steps sizes are cleared to 10 mhz in UHF--must be reset
  62.  
  63. remove R21 in control head. Tested with green wire cute 
  64.   TX 144-146   430-440  1240-1300
  65.   RX 130-174   400-470  1100-1400

  67. remove R22 in control head.  Tested with green wire cut.

  71. remove R19, R20 and R21 and/or R22 (green wire doesn't mater)
  72. same symptoms as above with R20 removed and green wire cut.
  73.   TX and RX frequencies not noted

  75. I am told that removing R56 (I'm fairly sure that's the blue resistor 3 7/8 
  76. inches over and 1 inch up on same board as cross band mod resistor) results in 
  77. only high and low power (no medium) control on all bands.

  79. Please let me know if you find out any other mod or find errors in this doc.
