Dear Shareware Librarian,
These disks contain a shareware distribution copy of my
genealogy program, "Family Tree Journal" version 9.0. It
replaces any previous versions that you may have in your
library.
Family Tree Journal allows you to create family history
books that document the lives of over 32,000 family members. For
each individual you may include up to 9 pages of biographical
information, 5 general purpose information fields to record such
things as cause of death, occupation, church affiliation or any
other items of your choosing, as well as standard genealogical
data. The program then does the tedious job of sorting, merging
and compiling the information into books. Family Tree Journal
targets all levels of expertise in both genealogy and computer
literacy. The ease of data entry allows the novice to quickly
grasp the concepts of operation, and the versatility of the
program satisfies the needs of the most serious user.
There are many genealogical data base programs on the
market but Family Tree Journal is the only one that presents the
information formatted into book form. The books may be the ob-
ject of conversation at family reunions, holidays, weddings, or
even funerals. Copies may be used as unique gifts and become
active and dynamic catalysts for correspondence between
relatives. An annual update of the book based on new information
accumulated throughout the year could become a family tradition.
Major features in this release are as follows:
* Consolidation of input functions
* Additional data entry "hot-keys"
* Internal speed enhancements
The user's system must have at least two floppy drives
(hard drive highly recommended) and a printer.
After installation, Family Tree Journal is executed by typing:
FTREE
The program provides a utility to print the instructions.
Here is a list of the files that should appear on the
disks:
Disk1:
addref.hlp entergen.hlp ftjedit.exe ftjedit.hlp ftjenter.exe
ftjmain.exe ftjsort.exe ftree.com group.hlp install.com
instruct.doc names.hlp read1st.doc register.doc search.hlp
showfam.hlp
Disk2:
ftjbook.exe ftjname.exe ftjprnt.exe ftjsort.exe ftree.com
intro.dat intro1.dat intro2.dat intro3.dat
Disk3:
aftree.dat bftree.dat ftjaddr.exe ftjmisc.exe ftjsort.exe
ftjxfer.exe ftree.com names.hlp sample.adr sample.bio
sample.dat sample.gen sample.nam sample.ref search.hlp
Notice that some of the files appear on more than one disk. The
redundant files are required to properly function on a system
with 360K floppy drives. If you use PKZIP (or other archive
program), each disk should be compressed into an individual
file, ie. FTJ90-1.ZIP, FTJ90-2.ZIP and FTJ90-3.ZIP, so that
users will be able to un-compress back into 360K diskettes.
Registration is $35.00. In return, the customer will
receive:
* A copy of the latest version of FAMILY TREE JOURNAL.
* A printed instruction manual
* Notification of periodic updates.
