  3. There are a few things you should be aware of before
  4. using FireFighter.
  5.  
  6. The fire report does not take the place of the Provincial
  7. or State Fire report. This is a quick report for your own
  8. Departments use and information.
  9.  
  10. Make sure you have the file Help.cfg in the same directory 
  11. FF.exe is in.
  12.  
  13. If you are paid by the incident rather than by the hour
  14. start FireFighter at the dos prompt with ff/c. 
  15.  
  16. The program will automatically upper case for you.
  17. This means you can use upper or lower caps and have the
  18. program change everything for you or you can Capitalize as
  19. you want.
  20.  
  21. The only place it will not capitalize for you is in the
  22. comment sections of your reports and when you Edit a file.
  23.  
  24. When you start up the program by typing FF at the DOS prompt
  25. you will find some Sample records to experiment with.
  26.  
  27. You will have to DELETE or RENAME all these records BEFORE
  28. you start to Enter any of your own.
  29.  
  30. These records are:

  32. Practice.rpt ------ Practice Reports
  33. Fireinf.rpt  ------ Fire Reports
  34. Maint.rpt    ------ Maintenance Records
  35. Roster.dat   ------ Roster Records
  36. Roster.ndx   ------ Index of Roster Records
  37. Case2.rpt    ------ Training Records
  38. Comment.dat  ------ Comment record (new in version 1.35+)

  40. If you want to keep these records as Samples then just run
  41. Sample.bat and it will rename the files for you.

  44. If you want to Delete these files then run GetRid.bat
  45. This batch file will delete the proper files so that you can
  46. start entering information.

  48. Now you can restart FF and start to enter your records.

  50. Important:
  51.  
  52. Please remember if you have duplicate names(last/first) then
  53. you must enter one name differently than the other. 
  54. eg: John Baker, J. Baker, Jack Baker, etc.
  55.  
  56. Make sure your spelling is correct as this could cause a
  57. problem with finding records later on.
  58.  
  59. Be sure to fill the record using the same format as the
  60. Sample records.
  61.  
  62. Please read the  file FIREROST.DOC!
  63.  
  64. Get all your records entered the way you like and after you
  65. order the Registered version of this program, you can copy the
  66. Registered Version right over the Unregistered Version.

  68. Please make a Backup copy of your directory first in case of
  69. mistakes.
  70.  
  71. If you are using a Floppy disk A: or B: then make a diskcopy
  72. of the program before using it.
  73.  
  74. Then you will have a spare copy if anything goes wrong.
  75.  
  76. The FireFighter program will continue to be expanded and made as easy to work
  77. with as possible.

  79. If there are any serious bug reports in the version of FireFighter
  80. you have registered, you will receive an updated version as soon as possible.
