BELGIUM: R Vlaanderen Internationaal is broadcasting a bilingual
program in Dutch and French to Belgian soldiers in Somalia. This is on

BULGARIA: 963 A new transmitter for the Horizont program is located at
Malko Tirnovo (South-East Bulgaria). Power is 5 kW. Vidin and
Kardzhali 1017 will move to 963 later this year or early 1994.

1993. Negotiations with VOA to finish the project and then renting is

The new right-wing coalition government of Estonia has set up a
controversial council with full control over broadcasting. The
nine-member council will have the power to award and withdraw
frequencies and licenses to television and radio stations. Broadcast

1512 ER P3 is rebroadcasting R Sweden's program in Estonian 1530-1545.

The Ostankino television company has reached agreement with the
Estonian authorities on relaying the Russian channel to Estonia.
Ostankino has agreed to pay all relaying expenses. The Russian
television company and the St. Petersburg television company have not

GERMANY: 1143 AFN Bremerhaven is going to close down on March 31st,

1044 DT64, MDR's program for young people, has reduced the power to
150 kW (ex 250 kW). MDR via BE via ARC

The people shaping the budget for the new Clinton administration in
the United States want to close Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty.
They say the stations have done their jobs, and their USD 210 million
a budget is needed elsewhere.

It's been proposed RL/RFE merge with the Voice of America, which would
take over their facilities, but not their budget. The two stations
broadcast in 23 languages spoken in Eastern Europe and the former
Soviet Union, most also carried by the Voice of America. The proposal,
which would have to be passed by Congress, does call, however, for USD
30 million to set up a new Radio Free China. The Economist via SCDX

commercial company. Price tag US$ 3 million annually. Truck drivers in

1440 R Centre, Moscow broadcasts daily in Russian at 0358-0500 and
1359-1500. A DX program is planned at 2100 on Saturdays by the

SLOVAKIA: The new schedule, beginning April 1st, from Slovak Radio's
external service is as follows: 0930 in English on 7345, 9505, and
11990 kHz; 1300 in Slovak on 6055 kHz; 1730 in Russian on 5960, 7345,
and 9605 kHz; 1830 in English on 7345 kHz; 1900 in German on 5960 and
9605 kHz; 1930 in French on 5960, 7345, and 9605 kHz; 0000 in English
(to the Americas) on 5930 and 9580 kHz, and 0100 in French (to the
Americas) on 5930, 9810, and 11990 kHz. BBCMS via SCDX

The Hungarian language service of BBC World Service has been heard on
Slovak radio, even some BBC WS Slovak language programs are used.

UNITED KINGDOM: Virgin 1215 is now testing on 1215 kHz with music plus
announcements as follows: "This is an engineering test transmission
for Virgin 1215, the new national independent radio network, which
launches officially on April 30th 1993. Virgin 1215 will be a 24 hour
service playing the very best album rock and pop from the past 25
years. For more information on this new national network write to
