INTRODUCTION
CONGRATULATIONS......
You are using QUOTATION FASTER! - the productivity tool designed
for the Sales and Marketing professional.
QUOTATION FASTER! is a versatile program designed to assist sales
and support personnel in providing quotations. You can provide
your customers with price quotations, quickly and easily. Changes
in product quantities can be reflected instantly in your quotation.
Designed by professionals in the sales, marketing, and computer
industries, QUOTATION FASTER! can be installed on most MS-DOS or
PC-DOS compatible computers, including portable and desktop
personal computers. A version is also available for the HP110
Portable Plus.
Support personnel with a portable computer and QUOTATION FASTER!
provides the professional with maximum convenience. Quotations can
be made in the field, allowing sales to be finalized on the spot,
while saving hours of paperwork in the office.
Introduction 1
PRICING STRUCTURE
Most finished goods, product price lists can be related as
CATEGORIES, MODELS, and OPTIONS. CATEGORIES are groups of products,
such as (in the case of automobiles) FORD, GENERAL MOTORS,
CHRYSLER.
MODELS are individual groups within a CATEGORY, such as (in the
case of automobiles) TAURUS, THUNDERBIRD, TEMPO, etc.
OPTIONS are related to the associated MODELS, (in the case of TEMPO
as a MODEL) Power Steering, Air Conditioning, etc.
QUOTATION FASTER! offers the flexibility to configure your own
CATEGORY, MODEL, and OPTION structure.
Pricing Structure 2
GENERAL INFORMATION - COMMANDS/FUNCTIONS
* Help is available throughout the program by pressing the [F1]
function key.
* In this manual, brackets - [ ] - are used to designate a key on
your computer keyboard. For example if you see [RETURN], press the
return key on your keyboard. The symbol [F1] indicates that you
must press the function key labeled "F1" on your keyboard.
* To delete characters when typing, press [BACKSPACE].
* Function keys or number keys can be used to make selections.
* QUOTATION FASTER! will always provide the status of commands that
you enter by replying with a message on the bottom line of the
screen called the "Command Status Line".
* Command areas - the cursor will always go to the next position on
the screen where commands can be entered. Function keys are
"shortcuts" that, in effect, do the same thing as the commands that
you enter.
* Display areas are areas on the screen that display information.
The cursor will not go to display areas.
* Menu titles appear on each menu throughout the program.
* Limitation on Prices. Prices or totals must be under $100 million
dollars.
* Negative prices for items can be entered in the price list
* Any changes that you make to prices, quantities, passwords, and

will be made to a new filename and the original price file will not
be modified.
* The Default file is used as a common data file for your prices.
The name of this file can be up to eight characters or numbers.
Any changes or additions must be saved before exiting the program.
It is important NOT to turn off the computer or reboot while the
program is running, or ALL changes not yet saved will be lost.
* The default quotation number (filename) can only be changed
through to ALTER PRICE LIST FILENAME function (See "Alter Price
List Filename" on page 35).

APPENDIX B. UTILITIES
There are a some special utilities and programs available only by
product registration, directly from DYNAMACS. These include the
QMFLOAD (IMPORT) and QMFUNLD (EXPORT) utilities.
As an alternative to the MAINTAIN PRODUCT LIST function described
in "Maintain Product List" on page 32, QMFLOAD allows you to to
create a price list database using data from an external "flat"
ASCII file.
For example, you could create a price list using your company's
master inventory database. QMFLOAD can create this price list from
your data files.
To request information these special utilities, contact:
Dynamacs, Inc.

APPENDIX C. TROUBLESHOOTING LOADING ERRORS
In the event that the default pricelist is accidentally deleted,
see "DEFAULT PRICE LIST ERRORS".
If the last date of price changes is earlier than the current
system date, the following error message will appear:
* * * SYSTEM DATE IS ILLOGICAL * * *
Your System Incorrectly Shows A Date Of MM/DD/YY,
While The Last Price Update Was MM/DD/YY.
Since Your System Shows A Date Earlier Than The Last Price Update,
QUOTATION FASTER! Has Changed Your System Date To MM/DD/YY
Press Any Key To Continue
When this message appears, your system date is changed to the date
of the last price update. This attempts to ensure that any price
changes are not backdated.
DEFAULT PRICE LIST ERRORS:
If the default price list (i.e. the master price list) is not
found, the program will not start. For information on starting the
program, see "STARTING OUT" on page 6.
In this situation, you cannot change the default price list
filename using the ALTER PRICE LIST FILENAME function described in
"Alter Price List Filename" on page 35 because you cannot enter the
program.
In this "Catch 22" situation, your system administrator can start
the program using the "NEW" pricelist option. With this option, the
program is started as follows:
Type: QUOTE NEW
Press [RETURN]
The program will start as usual and will creat an new "empty" price
list for use in the program.
Note that the MASTER PASSWORD is required for the NEW pricelist
option.
Appendix C. Troubleshooting Loading Errors 40
APPENDIX D. ERROR CODES AND MESSAGES
QUOTATION FASTER! provides error messages that are easy to
understand, and require little technical knowledge. Normally, you
will only need to follow the instructions given to you in the error
message.
Sometimes, error messages contain an "error code". Figure 14 on
page 43 provides a short description of the meaning of these error
codes. Error codes normally correspond to the error codes found in
the DOS technical reference. See the DOS programmer's reference
manual for detailed information on error codes.
QUOTATION FASTER! normally uses your computer's standard interface
to the devices connected to your computer, such as printers and
disk drives. If an error occurs when communicating with your
computer, QUOTATION FASTER! will provide the "error code" from your
computer in the error message to you.
For example, if you attempt to print a quotation and you do not
have a printer connected to your computer, QUOTATION FASTER! will
indicate Error Code 160. If you refer to Figure 14 on page 43, you
will see that Error Code 160 indicates a "Device write fault". In
non-technical terms, this means that a "fault" (error) occured when
QUOTATION FASTER! tried to "write" (print) to the "device"
(printer).
Appendix D. Error Codes and Messages 41
APPENDIX E. FATAL ERRORS
If QUOTATION FASTER! cannot determine the cause of a problem, the
program will immediately terminate and provide you with
instructions on how to procede. This type of problem should not
occur and should be reported to the Program Support Group for
resolution. See "Appendix B. Utilities" on page 39 for the
contact address.
