DISCLAIMER
Use WILDWALL! at your own risk. We are not, nor will be held responsible
for any damages resulting from the use or inablilty to use this product.
This software has been tested for months on several different systems. We
do not guarantee that this will work on your system as it is impossible
to account for every possible configuration.
REGISTRATION
A modest fee of $10 is requested for use of this product. The shareware
version is not crippled in any way. However, it will cease to function
after 30 days. This is being done due to the fact that I have received
hundreds of calls from SysOps all over the country stating that they used
other HoHSoft products and liked them, yet I have received NOTHING for
my work.
Please send a $10.00 money order made out to JASON HATCH to:
HoHSoft
34 Memorial Drive
Pittsfield, Ma 01201
Upon receipt, you will be given a password to F'REQ a personally
registered copy from my system.
Please NETMAIL me at 1:321/251 Fidonet with any questions, suggestions
or bugs. If you need a reply, poll my system 24 hours afterwards and
I will have a reply waiting for you.
Please see the enclosed document, PRODUCT.LST for other HoHSoft
products as well as instructions for F'REQing them.
INSTRUCTIONS
Before you do anything, run WILDCFG.EXE to set up your paths and
configure your colors. WILDWALL! WILL NOT RUN unless you run
WILDCFG.EXE!
The configuration program is pretty self explanitory.
You must have ANSI.SYS loaded for local display!!
When you neter the path to DOOR.SYS do so without a trailing
back slash! Ex: c:\renegade
Now you're ready to run WILDWALL! locally to check it out. Type
WILDALL /L to run locally or WILDWALL /? for command switch
instructions. Here's a list of valid command line switches:
/L Local mode
/D New DOOR.SYS
/A Allow users to select anonymous posts
/C Turns Censoring on
/N Use "conservative" graphics if you don't like the default.
/? Shows these options
Example:
To run WILDWALL! Locally with anonymous option and censorship
type the following:
WILDWALL /L /A /C
Order and case do not matter
LOCAL MODE (/L)
Runs WILDWALL! locally. Username defaults to SYSOP.
To avoid the SYSOP default username, run WILDWALL!
locally from your BBS after having DOOR.SYS dropped
for you. The "/L" switch is NOT needed as long as there
is a DOOR.SYS in the specified path which has been dropped
from a local logon.
There is a two second registration delay that WILL NOT
be displayed if a user is online. This is just to remind you
to register when you run it locally.
NEW DOOR.SYS (/D)
Older versions of DOOR.SYS wrote "GR" in the graphics line
regardless of RIP or ANSI.
The NEW DOOR.SYS (The one RENEGADE 1-02 Exp drops) writes "RIP" instead
of just "GR" if the user has RIP graphics, eliminating the need
for RIP detection. If you have the NEW DOOR.SYS specify "/D"
on the command line to eliminate RIP auto detection.
If you are UNSURE of whether or not you have the new DOOR.SYS,
do not specify "/D" and WILDWALL! will autodetect RIP.
Simply put if: Without "/D" WILDWALL! will try to autodetect
RIP if it finds "GR" in the DOOR.SYS. When "/D" IS specified,
WILDWALL! will take DOOR.SYS' word for it.
ANONYMOUS POSTS (/A)
With this switch, a user entering text to the graphitti wall
will be prompted whether or not he/she would like to post
anonymously. If yes, then their name will be replaced with
"[■ANONYMOUS■]" in the index file.
WILDWALL! Writes EVERYTHING to a separate log. So the Date, time
and USER NAME is recorded. This way, you can track what any user
writes REGARDLESS of whether they post anonymously or not.
CENSORING (/C)
With this switch enabled, WILDWALL! will search for a SysOp
defined file called BADWORDS.TXT. This file should contain
any swears that you don't allow on your system. WILDWALL!
comes with a default file you can edit to taste.
Please see section entitled "FILE FORMATS" for a detailed
description data file formats.
If the switch is enabled and WILDWALL! catches a user entering
one of the swears in BADWORDS.TXT, it will replace those swears
with <BEEP> (actual beep from speaker as well as the word "beep")
For example, User Enters:
f**k you (you get the hint)
"<BEEP> you" will be written out and displayed during subsequent
runs. However, the LOG will contain the original string for your
records.
USE "CONSERVATIVE" GRAPHICS (/N)
WILDWALL! Was designed to be WILD and look WILD. However, some may
not like the "WILD" colors used in the border screen. Should you
not like the colors, you may select the /N switch to use the more
"professional" screens.
RIP graphics will not be affected, as they are the our preffered
style and the inspiration of this program.
LINE NOISE FILTER
The line noise filter is on by default. What this does, is it
filters out any high ASCII from the user's input. If the user
has more than 15 chars of noise in his input, it will abort
writing to the index file. (See file formats)
For example:
Yeah, I th╟ink be┼er is g╗reat!
Will be written as
Yeah, I think beer is great!
FILES INCLUDED
WILDWALL.EXE -- WILDWALL! executable
WILDCFG.EXE -- WILDWALL! config program
WILDWALL.IDX -- Index file containing strings outputted to
WILDWALL. This is where the "final copy"
of a user's input is written
WILDWALL.LOG -- LOG file that contains all users and input
to the wall, as well as the time and
date they wrote to the wall. This is used
for SysOp's records only..
WILDWALL.CFG Config file for wildwall.
BADWORDS.TXT A text file containing swears for the
censorship routine to check user's input
against.
FILE FORMATS
WILDWALL.IDX
WILDWALL.IDX contains user names and string for display to the wall.
Format:
USERNAME
STRING
USERNAME
STRING
etc...
The file contains 10 usernames and 10 strings with the most recently
entered at the bottom. It packs the file every time something is written
to it so the last one is the newest and the first is the oldest.
This file is needed to operate the wall. I have supplied a sample
file with the archive. If you want, you can write your own or just
delete it. It's a good idea to have at least a couple lines in to
start the conversation out, else, it will remain blank until someone
enters something.
BADWORDS.TXT
BADWORDS.TXT contains SysOp defined SWEARS for use with the /C
switch. A default list is provided which you may edit.
FORMAT:
SWEAR
SWEAR
SWEAR
etc..
Where "SWEAR" is whatever...
WILDWALL.LOG
WILDWALL.LOG is a log file to record all input to wildwall. Whenever
a user writes something to WILDWALL! it is recorded in WILDWALL.LOG
I implemented this log when an anonymous user violated my BBS policy
and I couldn't figure out who did it.
FORMAT:
USER NAME on DATE at TIME entered:
STRING
Where USER NAME is the actual BBS name (ALIAS) of the user, REGARDLESS
of whether or no he posted anonymously in WILDWALL.IDX.
STRING is the ACTUAL,RAW string he/she entered without any CENSORING.
END of DOCUMENTATION
The Author may be NETMAILED at 1:321/251 for any questions.
See the enclosed PRODUCT.LST for F'REQing instructions for other
HoHSoft releases.
I'd like to thank my partner, Joe Barone for his assistance on this
project.
