JVTime - SLBBS Time Vault
Version 1.5B
(C) 1994 JVSoft
by Jim Barber
Support BBS
Joint Venture
(404) 980-0123
---------- DISCLAIMER ----------------------------------------------
JVSoft and specifically Jim Barber do not guarntee ANYTHING
about this program... if it malfunctions and causes the
destruction of the world I take NO responsibility what-so-ever,
in fact I am not going to even guarntee that it will WORK!
I.E. you use this program AS IS, and AT YOUR OWN RISK!
There that should get me off the hook if anything happens....
---------- Foreword ------------------------------------------------
Well if your anything like me you DONT like reading
documentation files. And if you have ever used one of my DOORS
before you will also know I am NOT big on writing doc files. So
I'll save us both alot of pain and torture and get right down to
business. By the way, remember to register!
---------- Setting Up JVTime ---------------------------------------
I wrote this program and tested it with SLBBS v3.5A, but there
no reason it should not work with any other version with the exception
of 1.xx versions. JVTime directly accesses the SLBBS data files to
obtain all its information which makes setting it up a breeze. Heres
the low-down:
*** IMPORTANT NOTE ***
You can NOT run JVTime from the LOCAL command line at this time.
A USER MUST BE ACTIVE IN SLBBS! If you want to run it from the
command line you MUST log onto SLBBS then use the ALT-X command
before running JVTime. You may get unpredictable results if you
try to run the program without a user online, like it may access
the LAST user online.. anyway, do it like I said above and you
can save us both the headaches!
1. Create a directory for it, a home if you will, or just stick
it any place you want.
2. Unzip the file, I find they work better that way.
If you files are NOT -Authentically Verified from Joint
Venture BBS then you DO NOT have an original distribution of
this FILE and I can NOT guarntee it is free from viruses or
intact as I distributed it. Call Joint Venture for a
complete version!
3. Set JVTime up as a door on your BBS as follows. JVTime can
also be used as a LogOff (LogOn) autodoor. A sample setup
follows:
* 1. Command Name ..................... JVTime
* 2. Command Key ...................... J
* 3. Description ...................... JV Time Vault
* 4. Access Levels & Graphics [...] (I cant do EVERYTHING for you!)
5. Door Command ..................... JVTIME [path to config.sl2]
6. Directory Path ................... [wherever you put the files]
7. Communication Support ............ Standard
8. Abort Method ..................... Terminate
9. Write Protection ................. No
10. Parameter File ................... None
11. Pause after Door ................. Yes
12. Pass Username as ................. Real Name
Anything with an * before it is a variable, like the Command
Name field, that can be anything you want these are just
examples.
NOTE about #5, this is imperative that you get this right,
pass the FULL path to your CONFIG.SL2 file on the command
line as the FIRST and ONLY parameter.
NOTE about #12, you MUST use the users real name! This is
the field the program will use to search for the user by the
name given.. they must be the same.
4. To configure the program you log in under your sysop account
(or any account with BBS access of 255) and you will get 2
extra options on the menu other users do not get. One of
these options will be Config, live it, love it, do it!
---------- USING JVTime as a SYSOP ----------------------------------
As a SYSOP user you will have a main menu that looks like the
following:
Command: Deposit Withdraw JVStats Config Sysop Quit
Deposit - Allows a user to deposit time in their account.
Withdraw - Allows a user to withdraw time from their account.
JVStats - Show statistical usage of JVTime. This function has
no practical value what-so-ever. I added it cause I wanted to
and thats the ONLY reason. I like stats and its an interesting
thing for the users to look at, something new and different from
other program.
Config - This is for SYSOPS (225 access) Only. It allows you to
set the options and colors that affect the program, they are:
MaxTime - The maximum time a user can HAVE in their
account, 120 minutes means they can NOT have more than
120 minutes of time stored.
MaxOut - This is the maximum amount of time a user can
withdraw in one chunk.
MaxTotal - This is the important one, this is the
MAXIMUM amount of TIME the user is allowed to HAVE. If
this value is 90 minutes and the user executes the DOOR
while they have say, 60 minutes of time left today, even
if they have 2000 minutes stored they CAN NOT Withdraw
more than 30 minutes until they use some of their time.
Colors - This is the color setup menu. It looks as much
like Searchlights as I could program without going
through a colossol effort to add more. Now, JVTime is
Setup to use your Default SLBBS colors and that is what
these values will initially be setup as BUT if you dont
like the way I combined them for some reason (god
forbid) you can change them ALL right here. This DOES
not affect your SLBBS config file, all these colors are
stored in the JVTime config file.
Save - This exits and gives you the option to save
everything you changed. If you select NO then the
original defaults will be restored.
Exit - Exit without saving anything you changed.
Sysop - This is a command that allows you to do 2 things:
View - List all users and their time balances.
Edit - Edit a users time balance. When you edit a users
balance in sysop mode you can add more time to their
account than the set maximum allows upto 65,530 minutes.
When editing a user you must type in their complete
name, no partials at this time. Maybe in a later
version.
Stats - Same command as JVStats on the main menu.
-------- CLOSING ARGUMENTS --------------------------------------
Well thats basically it. Its a pretty straight forward program
and I hope it meets your needs enough to register it. If you have any
questions call my bbs, Joint Venture 404-980-0123, or suggestions. Some
of you already know me and Im easy to approach and more than willing to
hear your comments so lemme have em.
I would also like to give special thanks to Mark Stewart at Warp
Factor BBS for helping so much in testing my programs.
Take care folks,
Jim
