Document: Revision History (EA.NEW)
Program: Eclectic Avenue
Version: 1.50T
Date: May 1, 1993
There have been changes to the configuration profile structure!
You will need to follow the upgrade instructions listed below.
If you are running 1.3x thru 1.4x:
1) Unpack the distribution archive in your existing EA directory.
2) Execute INSTALL.EXE from the EA directory.
3) Upon completion of the installation program, run 140TO150.EXE
from the EA directory. This will upgrade any exising
configuration profiles you might have. If your configuration
profiles do not end with a .CFG extension, you will need to
delete your configuration profiles and reconfigure EA using
EACONFIG (make a note of your registration number first), or
rename them to have a .CFG extension before running
140TO150.EXE.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you are running a version prior to 1.20:
1) If you are running verion 1.00: ALL data structures were
changed in 1.10 and no conversion process was possible.
Therefore, you will need to delete your Eclectic Avenue
files and reinstall the game.
- Delete ALL files and subdirectories in your EA directory.
- Unpack the distribution archive into your empty EA
directory.
- Run INSTALL.EXE.
- Run EACONFIG and recreate your configuration profile(s).
- It is not mandatory to import the trivia question list
since the trivia directory is now included in the
distribution archive.
- Read EA.DOC for information on configuration options.
2) If you are running version 1.1x: You can upgrade to 1.50 by
following these procedures:
- Unpack the distribution archive into your EA directory,
overwriting existing files (this will not harm games in
progress).
- From your EA directory, run INSTALL.EXE. This will not
harm existing data files.
- From your EA directory, run 110TO120.EXE. This will
convert your data files to the current format. It will
also convert your configuration profile(s) PROVIDED that
they have a filename extension of .CFG. If you call your
configuration profiles something else, you will need to
either rename them to *.CFG prior to running 110TO120.EXE
or delete and rebuild them.
- From your EA directory, run 140TO150.EXE. This will
convert your configuration profile(s) (*.CFG files) to
1.5x format.
- Upon successful completion, examine your configuration
profile(s), verifying correct configuration.
3) If you are running 1.2x:
- Unpack the distribution archive into your EA directory,
overwriting existing files (this will not harm existing
data files.
- Run INSTALL.EXE from your EA directory.
- From your EA directory, run 140TO150.EXE. This will
convert your configuration profile(s) (*.CFG files) to
1.5x format.
- Use EACONFIG to verify your existing configuration
profile(s).

THIS IS A BETA VERSION ONLY! THE DOCUMENTATION DOES NOT REFLECT THE
CHANGES IN THIS VERSION.
This beta is aimed at those who may be experiencing VERY poor
performance running under DESQview. If that's you, please install
this beta and inform me of the results on Low Voltage BBS at
(612) 566-5532.
1.50T.01 - I made one change to the DESQview support functions. If
this doesn't improve performance under DV, I will try
something else.
New for 1.50:
1.50.01 - Previously, if there were any blank lines in EA.BUM,
players were not allowed to log-on using an alias. Now,
blank lines are ignored.
1.50.02 - Revamped EACONFIG. It no longer accepts the name of the
configuration profile on the command line. Instead, it
looks for all *.CFG files in the current directory and
presents a menu list to select from. For this reason,
if your configuration profiles do not have a .CFG filename
extension, rename your existing configuration profiles so
EACONFIG will recognize them.
1.50.03 - Added a setting in EACONFIG used to define the maximum
number of darts a player may throw each time he/she lands
on "Al's Bar".
1.50.04 - Added a setting in EACONFIG used to define the maximum
number of times a player may gamble each time he or she
lands on "Casino".

Release Notes For Version 1.40:
1.40.01 - The number of days remaining for a game is not decremented
if more than one player is required to start the game AND
there are less than the required number of players. In
effect, games aren't officially "started" until there are
at least the number of players required to begin play.
1.40.02 - When the dungeon map is revealed, it is now a kajillion
times faster than before.
1.40.03 - When encountering a monster in the dungeon and the player
had less than a buck or less than 1 turn remaining the
game would lock up.
============================================================================
Release Notes For Version 1.30:
1.30.01 - No two users may be in one game at the same time starting
with this release. This speeds up the response time too
since some of the multiline functions that we _thought_
were allowing proper game play by more than one person were
removed.
1.30.02 - Added a luck card "MOVE BACK TWO SPACES". When this
card is drawn, a player might end up on a property, the go
to jail space, or the go to start space.
1.30.03 - Added a super-duper twist. Look for it at Look Out Point.
1.30.04 - Added a "GO TO LOOKOUT POINT" luck card.
1.30.05 - Increased the maximum locked DTE (baud) rate in the
configuration utility from 38400 to 57600 BPS. This is
only valid if you have the ASYNC ENGINE configured as the
communications driver. FOSSIL drivers may be locked at
this rate when they are loaded.
1.30.06 - Added support for command line parameter /C which is used
to clear the flags of any games that are marked as "In
use". This function is also performed during maintenance
agent tasks using the /M parameter.
1.30.07 - New players are no longer required to read the
instructions. Instead, EA prompts whether or not to view
the instructions.

Release Notes For Version 1.25:
1.25.01 - Fixed a bug where properties were going up for sale
all by themselves with erroneous selling prices.
1.25.02 - The real estate market has been revamped.
1.25.03 - Properties which are for sale no longer flash on the
game board. All the flashing was hurting people's eyes
(and mine too).
1.25.04 - Users can now redraw the game board screen by pressing
CONTROL-R.
Release 1.20:
I M P O R T A N T N O T I C E ! !
Three data file structures have been updated. Therefore, we have
included 110TO120.EXE which must be used to convert 1.1x data
files to 1.20 format.
To upgrade from 1.1x to 1.20:
■ Unpack the distribution archive into your existing Eclectic Avenue
subdirectory.
■ Change to the Eclectic Avenue subdirectory.
■ Run the INSTALL.EXE program. This will install all files, old and
new, overwriting existing files. This will NOT harm game data that
is currently in place.
■ Run the 110TO120.EXE conversion utility. This will upgrade the
EA.GAM, EA.TRS and *.CFG files. Upon successful completion,
you can delete this file.
If you are currently running 1.00, follow the procedures outlined
below in "Release 1.10/1.11". You will have to begin again from
scratch (configuration profiles and game data files).
Release Notes:
1.20.01 - Added a FREE SQUARE luck card. When drawn, the player is
prompted for the square number of his/her choice to move
to.
1.20.02 - Fixed a bug where EA was not recognizing when City Block
number 7 was owned.
1.20.03 - I have opened up a small support system of my own which,
at the time of this writing is operating 24 hours at
612-566-5532.
1.20.04 - Added the Real Estate <M>arket which is accessible off
the game board menu. This option allows players to buy
and sell properties between themselves. Flashing
square numbers on the game board indicate properties for
sale by other players.
1.20.05 - Players are now color coded. Each player is assigned a
color in each game they are in. This color is then used
when displaying the player's name and is also used when
displaying square numbers owned by this player.
1.20.06 - Implemented limits on gambles and dart throws. Players
are now allowed 10 gambles each time they land on the
CASINO, or 10 dart throws each time they land on AL'S.
1.20.07 - Fixed a 'cashing out' bug. Previously, when a player
went broke and had no properties to cash out, the player
was not taken out of the game and still retained a score.
1.20.08 - Added 'Days Remaining' expiration notice to the game board
and to the V>iew property listings off the main menu.
1.20.09 - Fixed multiple player bug; Previously, when more than one
player was in the same game at the same time (multiline
systems only) scores were not written properly and game
tracking was altogether messed up. Only one player is
allowed in any one game at any time.
1.20.10 - The REMOVE.EXE utility wasn't working properly in 1.10.
It's fixed now.
1.20.11 - The treasure chest file now includes property transactions
in addition to the rental transactions.
1.20.12 - A new ANSI file has been included. ESTATE.ANS is used for
the Real Estate Market.
End of release notes for 1.20.
Release 1.10/1.11:
I M P O R T A N T ! !
ALL STRUCTURES HAVE BEEN CHANGED! This is a complete rewrite of
all data structures. This was necessary to accomodate the vast
amount of enhancements to the game.
No conversion program is available. ALL games will be lost and
Eclectic Avenue will need to be reinstalled.
If you are currently running Eclectic Avenue version 1.00, you will
need to:
■ Write down your registration number. Even the configuration
profile structure has been changed so you will need to grab your
registration number out of your existing configuration profile(s).
■ Delete ALL files and ALL subdirectories in your Eclectic Avenue
subdirectory.
■ Follow the installation procedures outlined in INSTALL.DOC.
Release Notes:
1.10.01 - We've changed the data structures dramatically. Providing
a conversion program would have been too tricky and would
leave much to error on your end so we've decided it's best
to just reinstall the program from scratch.
1.10.02 - Added 6 more properties for a total of 7 city blocks. We
have redesigned the game board to accomodate these changes.
1.10.03 - Added an option in the configuration profile editor
EACONFIG.EXE that allows the Sysop to require a minimum
number of players that are required to be in a game before
any player is allowed to take a turn. This defaults to
a setting of 1 player. For example, if you would like
6 players to be in a game before any player is allowed to
take a turn, you would set this to 6.
1.10.04 - You are no longer required to import the trivia question
list as part of the installation process. We found that
many Sysops were not following the installation procedures
outlined in EA.DOC therefore the distribution archive is
a bit bigger since we've included the trivia question
directory and database "pre-imported". Many a call to a
support site could have been avoided if folks would read
the mighty fine documentation that we've provided. Many
answers are right there. Shall we continue to develop
DOC files if no one reads them?
1.10.05 - Added a LUCK card: If you happen to draw this one, the
effect is that the game buys back one of your properties.
The actual scenario is that one of your properties burns
to the ground. Your insurance company re-imburses you the
purchase price, rebuilds the property and places it back
onto the market for resale.
1.10.06 - Several of what we call "twists" have been added to the
game board.
■ When players land directly on the Fancy Restaraunt square,
they will see an additional command (Eat Food). If they
Eat Food at the Restaraunt they will gain strength and an
extra turn. Players can use this command once each time
they land on this square.
■ When players land directly on the Bank square, they will
see an additional command (Rob Bank). If they choose to
use this command they may or may not be successful. If
successful, they will win the amount of money in the
teller's cash drawer. If they are not successful, they
will loose all cash held except for $100 and will be
sent directly to jail. Players must have $100 cash on
hand in order to see this command. Players can use this
command once each time they land on this square.
1.10.07 - Added the Secret Square. Each time a player enters a game,
a property space is randomly selected. If the player
lands directly on this space during game play, he/she is
awarded one extra turn and $250.
1.10.08 - Added square description .TXT files to support the additonal
spaces that have been added.
1.10.09 - Previously, when a player J>oined a game, he/she was given
opportunity to view the game being joined first. Then,
after viewing the game, the player was added and game play
was started. Now, after viewing the game, the player is
prompted again on whether or not to still join the game.
1.10.10 - Well we couldn't believe it but we were actually informed
by two individuals that throughout the program and
documentation, we mis-spelled "Electric"! So to these
folks we would just like to clarify that the game is not
"Electric Avenue" but rather "Eclectic Avenue". To the
authors, Eclectic means 'the best of all available
resources'. Now does it make sense?
1.10.11 - Fixed the MAINMENU.HLP file. We had a duplicate description
in there.
