Differences between PipBase 1.03/PipReply 1.05 and Pip 2.00
Pip* 2.00beta1
- Pip 2.00 is an unique program substituting both PipBase and PipReply:
it is smaller than the sum of the two predecessors
- It has a comfortable interactive setup
- Nearly all options are accessible via pull-down menus
- It is written with new, powerful, libraries
- Hypertextual help
- New FSC-compatibles quotes
- The alias file name is now configurable
- New random (nothing particular) and cyclic (thanks to Marco Bini for the
idea) origin systems
- Now it may insert a passowrd into packet headers
- Run time statistics now include average tossing/packing time (messages per
second)
Pip* 2.00beta2
- Added /25 switch to run Pip* in 25-rows mode even if it is configured for
43/50 rows
- Fixed some bugs causing flags and sender's name to be lost when modifying
a message
- Scroll buttons in Pip Reply area disappeared! We wanted a larger text area,
but try to click where they were... (and see help about invisible buttons)
- added an (invisible) jolly button to browse messages more comfortably
- Pip* now uses EMS (if available) for internal overlays
- Ctrl-Break interrupt is trapped
- Dialog boxes will always be placed at the center of the screen, regardless
of the screen size
- New Squeeze-It packer (.SQZ) is supported
- Now Pip* can be swapped out when running an esternal editor
- "Re:" strings are removed from message subjects when IMPORTing them
- Registration keys are changed! please apply for new keys
Pip* 2.00beta3
- Commas and spaces in the subject line of filerequest messages are translated
in newlines when writing a .Req file in Binkley mode
- When setting up directories, Pip* will create unexisting directories (after
asking you)
- Messages may be sorted by date (registered version only)
- /NOEMS switch
- Fixed an old bug causing an anomalous exit when entering an area with a
lastread pointer set to an unexisting message
- Help key is always F1 (no longer sometimes F1 and sometimes ?)
- Fixed some problems in unregistered version
- NORMAL priority is now default when using BTSEND, BTUPDATE, BTPOLL and
BTREQUEST, and you may omit it on command line
- A PACK is performed automatically after creating new areas in Setup
- Purge and Pack will regenerate DestPtr.Pip only if necessary
Pip* 2.00beta4
- Packet password is extended to regular 8 chars (not null-terminated)
- All %options are developed in message template
- You may define a signature to be added to every message you'll write
- "F9 for alias expansion" signals that it is active only for registered users
- fixed some troubles with argument passing under MS-Windows
- fixed a bug eliminanting the first character of the second line of quoted
quoted text
- message forwarding is now a little more concise; old, complete, message
forwarding style is always possible by exporting a message on a temporary
file and then posting it
- a second tearline ### PipReply is no longer added to new messages
- temporary message file is now called MsgTmp.Lst, and no longer MsgTmp, since
some editors don't like filenames without extension
- added message crypting/decrypting with ROT-13
- fixed a lot of problems with internal editor
- added carbon-copy send (only for registered users)
- added new area creation (only for registered users)
- if you don't quote kludges, Pip Reply no longer leaves a blank line where
there was a hidden line
- EMS is used also when swapping for shells (to DOS and to packers)
- fixed a bug causing loss of origins when substituting origins from Pip Reply
- now you may edit an origin before selecting it from Pip Reply
- fixed a bug causing an irregular record appearing when editing personal
quote #1 and pressing PgUp
- added a "route crashmail via boss" to route directly via their boss messages
directed to a point of another system
- message list in Pip Reply is now a lot faster
- (maybe) fixed reply link problems
- area list and messagebase statistics will show areas with unread messages
- you may configure IMPORT to directly flag received messages as SENT when
possibile, to considerably speed up EXPORT
Pip* 2.00 official release
- fixed some minor esthetic bugs (especially about colors and windows)
- fixed a CC: bug (the message counter was incremented only by one, regardless
of the number of sent copies, so that you'll have to exit and re-enter area
to read sent messages)
- fixed some bugs when deleting messages while in message list screen
- added the ability to uudecode files contained in messages
- since semotimes an attempt to recover bad packets resulted in destroying
message base, bad packets are now simply renamed as .BAD; read them with
LIST or any other viewer
- added the possibility of suppressing BELs (\7 characters) from beeping
messages
_______________________________________________________________________________
Differences between Pip* 2.00 and Pip* 2.01
Pip* 2.01beta1
- fixed a bug causing disappearing of the quote preamble when changing external
editor
- when new areas area created, they're automatically linked to the friend that
sent them to you
- fixed a bug in viewer setup: now you can really enter -1 as initial area and
user number, as stated in help screens
- now it does not ask if you want to keep original message if you abort message
forwarding
- now it does not move from current message if you press Esc after a [G]oto
messagre number... request in Pip Reply
- PIP REPLY NOW HAS A NEW ENGINE: MESSAGEOBJECT, TO BE FASTER... sorry but
this major change caused a lot of little bugs in this and successive
betaversions
- text find function in Pip Reply (registered users only)
- fixed last problems with PIP INDEX (I hope...)
- corrected some little inaesthetisms
- now PIP STAT user# reports the total number of unread messages
- if you try a CC: send when modifying a message, a box signals that Pip*
cannot do it (in 2.00, a CC: when modifying was equivalent only to a
recipient change)
- Pip Reply no longer aborts if it finds a corrupted message (appearing with an
unknown compression method)
Pip* 2.01beta2
- PIP EXPORT does not terminate with a division by 0 error if you exported all
messages in less than one second! (calculating the average: messages/second)
Sorry for this, but my computer isn't so fast to provoke this bug...
- Pip Setup now correctly set the string for automatic area change
- fixed some other little inaesthetisms
- maximum message length is no longer a 16 bits integer, but a 32 bit long int
(it works better with long messages)
- changed final screen for betaversions, to commemorate all messages lost by my
betaversions (idea by my betatester Silva Ferretti)
- fixed (?) some problems when importing long messages
Pip* 2.01beta3
- when deleting an area from Pip Setup, now you're prompted for deletion of all
messages remaining in that area (no more "ghost" files occupying megabytes
of space...)
- if you don't set a domain, a @ is no longer added to your origins
- fixed some problems with total packet counter when importing and exporting
from menu
- added beeps when refusing bad packets
- fixed some problems in locating last users in userlists longer than 64 Kb
- a configuration option permits to skip "press any key to continue" requests
after Importing, Exporting, Packing, Purging, etc. from interactive menu
- a configuration option re-enables old-style extended message forward (with
enormous headers; Maurizio Macagno loved them and insisted)
- fixed a bug causing insertion of NUL characters when exporting message
kludges to a file
- fixed a bug causing "random" flags to appear in new messages
- fixed another little bug in internal text editor
- for beta versions, Pip* initial screen displays also time and date of last
changes
- it flushes all files after sending a message: so it is slower, but the
probability of loosing messages for a sudden crash is reduced
- compact message forwarding now correctly reports original area tag
Pip* 2.01 officvial release
- revised automatic upgrade of configuration files
- when an unregisterd user selects "Automatic area creation", and when Pip
should create it when importing mail, the fact that the option isn't enabled
is now clearly stated
- when used in FD mode, now it correctly imports all messages addressed to all
AKAs of the node
