-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
OS/2 V2.0 compilation of PGP V2.1 Wednesday 1992-12-09
- ---------------------------------
This note comes with a `distribution' package of the OS/2 32-bit version
of PGP V2.1, formed simply by compiling the distributed source code with
the GNU C compiler (EMX version). I made no changes to the distributed
source - it compiled and ran as-is (quite a tribute to the developers, I
reckon).
I have added my PGP key to the file `keys.asc' that was distributed with
the DOS version, so that you can check my signature on the executable
(see below).
I have provided a detached signature file `pgpsig.asc' certifying the
executable (only); when the file pgp.exe was signed it had been used
successfully to add (a large number of) keys to my public ring, verify
my pubring and sign the executable.
I found one problem with the executable, and re-trying this with the
PGP20OS2 release I was using before, I found a very similar problem:
1. When adding a large .asc keyring (Pat Farrell's), I received a
TRAP 0005 (OS/2 XCPT_ARRARY_BOUNDS_EXCEEDED) after the .asc file
was unpacked, and during the initial processing of the first
20-odd keys. I put this down to some nasty with the `verbose'
mode that I was running with - turning `verbose' off made the
problem go away. Since then, no probs.
I have enclosed all the files of the original MS-DOS release, minus the
DOS-specific executables, and the EMX.DLL file that is required for
running the executable - copy to a directory on your LIBPATH.
For those of you wishing to re-compile yourselves, the things I had to
do to make the compilation work were very few:
1. Setup GNU C
2. Copy the distributed `makefile.unx' to `makefile' (for NMAKE's
use when recursing)
3. Amend the `tools.ini' file to add the UNIX-style `.o' suffix and
the inference rule `.c.o'
4. Compile
I have included the (copied) makefile, and the modified `tools.ini' - no
changes to the `makefile' as I said, and the `tools.ini' is very basic.
I claim no copyright in this - you should check the PGP documentation
and `COPYING.EMX' for the distribution terms and copyrights of the
various original developers.
Enjoy!
The original source distribution I used was found fia ftp:
`nic.funet.fi' ~pub/unix/security/crypt/pgp21src.zip
This distribution has been upload to `gate.demon.co.uk'
