BBSee Catalog Database Conversion Utilities.
1. CONVERT.EXE
The layout of the catalog file database has changed with BBSee
version 2.0. There are now three files, the catalog, archive and
volume files within the catalog database. If you have an
existing BBSee version database you must perform a two step semi-
automatic conversion if you wish you continue to use the new and
improved version.
Step One.
The first step of the conversion is to create the new files for
the catalog and archive contents, and import your existing
catalog database information. To initiate this step, from the
sub-directory where you have bbsee.cfg, execute the command
CONVERT /INITIAL
This process creates two intermediate files needed in step two,
the new catalog files temporarily named newcat.db and newcat.idx
and a file called BBSEE.CVT.
BBSEE.CVT is a file that contains information for later use in
CONVERT. It is important that you change the first letter of
each line of this file to match the drive where you would have
cataloged the specified volume. (This is required, if you are to
ever wish to use BBSee's automated extract and copy features.
Refer to BBSee's documentation for further information). BE SURE
that the editor you use to change the BBSEE.CVT does not change
anything but the first letter, (some place tab characters in the
file without you even knowing).
Step Two.
Once you are satisfied with the BBSEE.CVT file, start the second
pass with the command
CONVERT /VOLUME.
This pass reads the BBSEE.CVT file and creates the new volume
database. On successful exit, CONVERT deletes its temporary
files, and you should be ready to run BBSee Version 2.
Note that the conversion process keeps a backup copy of your
existing file, at the end of pass two, named BACKCAT(.db and
.idx). Once you are satisfied that BBSee 2.0 is functioning
properly you can delete these files. If you wish you can backup
the catalog.db and idx file(s) that you use before running
CONVERT. The conversion does not modify the master description
database so these do not need to be backed up.
If you use more than one catalog file that are stored in the same
directory, you will need to individually and manually change the
archives and volume filenames after the conversion.
Note that the DOS serial number is not incorporated in the old
file structure. If you use DOS 4.0 or higher and the disk do
actually have a DOS serial number, during recatalog of converted
disks, you will be notified that the serial number for the old
disk don't match. You will need to uncatalog followed by a
catalog to correct this situation.
2. CDISKCON.EXE
The purpose of this program is to convert CatDisk catalog
databases to a format which can be used by BBSee. The syntax for
the program is
CDISKCON database
where database is your CatDisk database name (no extension).
Note that CDISKCON will first scan the volume labels in the
BBSee and CatDisk databases to make sure there are no duplicates.
For this program to work you should ensure that a copy of the
BBSEE.CFG file you will be using is located your current
directory.
Note that when you use this conversion certain features, (ie
eXtract, Copy, and View) will not work because disk information
is missing. As well you will need (if you use DOS 4.0 or higher)
to uncatalog and catalog on all cataloged disks, because the disk
serial number is missing.
3. ICATCON.EXE
The purpose of this program is to convert Intelicat catalog
databases to a format which can be used by BBSee. The syntax for
the program is
ICATCON database
where database is your Intelicat database name (no extension).
Note that ICATCON will quit if it finds duplicate entries in you
Intelicat and BBSee databases.
4. DTCON.EXE
The purpose of this program is to convert DiskTrak 7 catalog
databases to a format which can be used by BBSee. The syntax for
the program is
DTCON database
where database is your DiskTrak database name (no extension).
Note that DTCON will quit if it finds duplicate entries in you
Intelicat and BBSee databases.
For this program to work you should ensure that a copy of the
BBSEE.CFG file you will be using is located your current
directory.
Note that when you use this conversion certain features, (ie
eXtract, Copy, and View) will not work because disk information
is missing. File date and size information is not available in
the DT7 database. As well you will need (if you use DOS 4.0 or
higher) to uncatalog and catalog on all cataloged disks, because
the disk serial number is missing.
5. FIXGIF.EXE
This program is designed to correct a bug caused by the initial
BBSee version 1 to version 2 convertion. If you used the
previous CONVERT.EXE program, running FIXGIF should correctly re-
initialize the converted GIF resolution field.
