  9. Shareware
  10. ---------
  11. DataWorks is SHAREWARE. After a thirty day evaluation period, if you
  12. continue to use DataWorks, you are required to register the product
  13. and include a license fee of $49.95 U.S. by check, money order, Visa
  14. or Mastercard. A registration form may be found at the end of this
  15. document.
  16.  
  17. DataWorks is designed as an xBase power user's toll to be used by
  18. developers building applications with VXBASE for Visual Basic.
  19. VXBASE may be found on the bulletin board that carries DataWorks.
  20. It is uploaded as two files. The latest release is composed of
  21. files vxd102.zip (documentation) and vxb102.zip (vxbase.dll).

  23. DataWorks documentation is contained entirely in an extensive
  24. Windows Help file accessible from the main DataWorks menu.

  27. Installation
  28. ------------
  29.    (1) Unzip dw125.zip with pkunzip
  30.            PKUNZIP DW125
  31.  
  32.    (2) Three more zip files appear
  33.  
  34.            DWMASTER.ZIP  an empty DataWorks data dictionary set
  35.                          to be loaded and unzipped into any
  36.                          directory that contains or will contain
  37.                          xBase files. Retain this file to set up
  38.                          new xBase locations that are accessible
  39.                          through DataWorks.
  40.  
  41.            VXBTEST.ZIP   If you currently have vxBase, move this
  42.                          file to \VB\VXBTEST and unzip it. It 
  43.                          contains DataWorks dictionary definitions
  44.                          for the sample database that comes with
  45.                          VXBASE.
  46.  
  47.            DWINDOWS.ZIP  contains dwx.exe, dwxdll.dll, dw.ini,
  48.                          and dwhelp.hlp. Move this file to your
  49.                          \WINDOWS directory and unzip. These are
  50.                          the actual program and supplementary files.

  53.    (2) New Users
  54.        ---------
  55.        copy DWMASTER to any directory on your hard drive that
  56.        contains Clipper databases (or to a new directory 
  57.        if you want to create new databases).
  58.  
  59.        Every directory that you wish to access with DataWorks
  60.        MUST HAVE ITS OWN COPY of the master dictionary files.

  62.        vxBase Users
  63.        ------------
  64.        If you wish to experiment with DataWorks, and have a copy
  65.        of vxBase, move the VXBTEST.ZIP file to \VB\VXBTEST and
  66.        unzip (don't copy DWMASTER there).

  69.        Existing Users NOTE:
  70.        --------------------
  71.        If you are upgrading an existing copy of DataWorks,
  72.        DO NOT UNZIP DWMASTER over top of your current dictionary
  73.        files. You will lose all current dictionary information.

  76. Running DataWorks
  77. -----------------
  78.  
  79.    (1) Bring up Windows and add DWX.EXE to a program group 
  80.        (or run it with the RUN command). The password is
  81.        MASTER. Enter a startup directory where you have 
  82.        placed a copy of the DataWorks dictionary files (i.e.,
  83.        unzipped DWMASTER). If you are running the sample
  84.        vxBase data set, enter \vb\vxbtest as the directory.
  85.  
  86.        You can alter the initial size of the files directory
  87.        screen. When you exit, the size you set will be saved.
  88.  
  89.    (2) If there are existing database files in the directory
  90.        you specified, you can add them to the DataWorks
  91.        dictionary with the File Import Dbf menu command.
