  1.                   Challenge/Response Option
  2.                   =========================
  3. The external unlock /CR option generates a Challenge for
  4. which you must contact your site administrator, Distributor,
  5. or MERGENT to obtain a Response. The Challenge sequence
  6. verifies that only an authorized user is accessing the Boot
  7. Protection external unlock Utilities.  When you supply a
  8. valid Challenge to the site administrator, Distributor, or
  9. MERGENT Technical Support Department, and supply proof that
  10. you are authorized to access the utilities, a valid Response
  11. to "solve" the Challenge will be given to you.

  13.                     What's a Challenge?
  14.                     ===================
  15. The challenge is a series of 15 numbers (three sets of five
  16. numbers each).  The numbers that appear are based on each
  17. PC's real-time clock.  Because of this, no two challenge
  18. sequences are the same.  Each challenge has only one
  19. possible response.

  21.                      What's a Response?
  22.                      ==================
  23. A Response is a series of ten numbers (two sets of five
  24. numbers each).  The numbers that appear are based on the
  25. challenge and the BP Key.  The response is the "solution" to
  26. the challenge.

  28.                Site vs. Distributor vs. MERGENT
  29.                ================================
  30. Screen text will contain instructions explaining the party
  31. to contact. Of the three types of challenge, only those
  32. supported will be displayed (in the order shown). If the
  33. site administrator cannot be located, an F3 keypress at the
  34. site challenge will display the Distributor challenge.
  35. Similarly, assuming all three challenge options are
  36. supported, an F3 keypress at the Distributor challenge will
  37. display the MERGENT challenge.

  39.                     Obtaining a Response
  40.                     ====================
  41. Contact the person or entity described in the screen text.
  42. Read your Challenge as three sets of five numbers each. As
  43. each digit of the ten digit Response is issued, type it in
  44. the Response Field on-screen. Make sure you enter the
  45. numbers correctly.

  49. Press F3 to cancel the current screen and to display the
  50.          next supported challenge option.

  52. Press F10 to accept the Response you receive.
