  97. Printer's Apprentice 7.0 BETA #4- 10/21/98
  98. - Fixed a problem with GradientTitle.OCX. Even though the software
  99.   no longer uses it, our component checking tool was still looking
  100.   for it. This resulted in a dialog box being displayed each time
  101.   the software was launched.

  103. - Eliminated dependencies on the following files:  dwvercls.dll.

  105. - Updated ActiveX / DLL references in the readme.txt file.

  107. - On the suggestion of a beta tester, David Raz, I added the volume
  108.   name to the list of drives in the uninstalled tab. In the interest of
  109.   load time, we only grab the volume name for hard drives.

  111. - When reading a directory with a lot of uninstalled fonts, PA now actually
  112.   displays an hourglass mouse icon.
  113.  
  114. - Fixed a problem with copying from the uninstalled list to the group
  115.   list. If the source drive in the in the uninstalled list was a
  116.   read only device, the items were still removed from the list box.

  118. - Added a progress dialog box (with flying paper animation!) when copying
  119.   or moving font files.

  121. - Added the name of the currently selected printer to the Printer button
  122.   tooltip. This is a nice addition, requested by Bob Mateer.

  130. Printer's Apprentice 7.0 BETA #3- 10/05/98
  131. - This version was compiled with Microsoft's Visual Studio 98. Let's
  132.   hope it cleans up some of the mystery GPF's, etc.

  145. - The point size sliders now have a little tag that indicates the
  146.   size over the mouse pointer as the slider is moved.

  148. - Added a Registry tool. This allows you to examine, print and save
  149.   the font related entries from your Windows Registry. This new 
  150.   feature is located on the Tools menu.

  152. - Added an "Install..." option to the File|Font Groups sub menu. This 
  153.   installs just the selected fonts in a font group.

  155. - Fixed up an error is the list of OCX/DLL files shipped with the

  163. Printer's Apprentice 7.0 BETA #2- 7/27/98
  164. - File|Exit, Close button - I think I fixed the GPF that happened on
  165.   some systems on shutdown of PA. Some of the software components were
  166.   not loading in the proper sequence, causing meltdown. The GPF's no longer 
  167.   happens on my NT4 system, let me know if it still happens on yours.

  169. - Drag&Drop Fonts To A Font Group - Created a new dialog box that is 
  170.   displayed when completing a drag and drop operation from the 
  171.   Installed Fonts list to a font group. The other dialog was confusing
  172.   and had some options that were not applicable for this function.

  174.   We also updated the What's This? help for this new dialog.
  175.  
  176. - Uninstall Dialog - Tab ordering has been fixed. "Next" is now 
  177.   the default button so you can press Enter to move from step to
  178.   step.
  179.  
  180. - Install Font Group - Cleared up some of the message boxes that came up
  181.   if all the font in the group were already installed.
  182.  
  183. - Options Dialog - Fixed bug where catalog point size option was not
  184.   saved and restored properly.

  186. - Added Select All entry on the Edit menu.

  188. - Two Column Catalog I, II - Fixed a problem where the descriptions for 
  189.   the second column printed over the descriptions for the fonts in
  190.   the first column.

  192. - Two Column Catalog II - Adjusted the vertical spacing between fonts,
  193.   the information line and the next font. The spacing was really whacked.

  195. - Form sizing - The main PA form now has a minimum window size and
  196.   cannot be sized smaller than this.

  198. - Font Reading - Installed fonts with two letter font names were not
  199.   being picked up by PA. This has been fixed.

  201. - Documentation - Various enhancements and corrections to the help file
  202.   and DLL/OCX version section of the readme.txt file.

  205. Printer's Apprentice 7.0 BETA - 7/13/98
  206. - First release of overhauled PA 7.0. Too many
  207.   new things to list. For a general list of new features,
  208.   see the help file.

  213.   Known bugs
  214.   ----------
  215.   * GPF On Shutdown - Some NT 4.0 systems GPF when the X close button is
  216.     clicked. Workaround: Use File|Exit to quit.
  217.   * Can't Select By Dragging Mouse - In theory you should be able
  218.     to select multiple fonts in any list by dragging the mouse. 
  219.     However, sometimes the file drag starts suddenly. 
  220.     Workaround: Use the keyboard with the CTRL and SHIFT keys to
  221.     select multiple fonts.

  224. - Fixed a problem with the Keyboard chart and Catalog #2. With some
  225.   print drivers, some lines where printing very faint.
  226. - Fixed a crooked line problem in Sample Sheet #1.

  229. - Fixed a problem with the printed ANSI chart that caused a horizontal
  230.   line to extend out from the lower left corner of the bounding box.

  234. - Updated readme.txt file with list of OCX/DLL system files used by 
  235.   PA. The version numbers on a few files on the list were out of date
  236.   and did not correspond with the files that we actually ship.
  237. - Updated Order Form in Help File with proper telephone number to 
  238.   call if you have a problem with your order.
  239. - Fixed a problem that happened if a printer was not installed. PA
  240.   would crash. Now it displays a message box indicating that PA
  241.   requires a print driver to run.
  242. - Fixed Options dialog box so Printer Reset text box would accept
  243.   double digit numbers.

  246. - Fixed an "Invalid property value" error message that occured
  247.   when selecting Keyboard from the Characters menu and an Adobe

  262. - Fixed problem where the "Printer's Apprentice Component

  266. - Significantly reduced EXE file size (we needed to do this
  267.   in order to fit the application on two diskettes).

  270. - Eliminated need for the MHKEYST32.OCX. This file no longer

  288.   items under the Characters menu. These have been
  289.   fixed and now work correctly when the Character Set

  291. - Many items on the Characters menu do not apply when 
  292.   the Paragraph or Font Information tabs are selected.
  293.   We fixed the code so these menu items are disabled and
  294.   enabled where appropriate.
  295. - Fixed a problem with the up/down arrow keys in the 
  296.   main window. If you scrolled up and down in the 
  297.   font list box, the arrow keys stopped working when
  298.   a non-TrueType font was encountered.
  299. - Fixed many minor display bugs that pop up during
  300.   screen resizing.
  301. - Fixed error "cannot open install.log" that occured
  302.   when running the uninstaller from the Start menu.

  319. - Fixed "35613 Imagelist must be initialized before it can be used" error

  321.   our end and took a while to debug.

  326. - Added new font catalog, the "Divided Bar Catalog" (for

  341. - Recompiled with Visual Basic 5.0 for increased performance

  343. - General interface tweaks include use of sliders instead of 
  344.   scroll bars on the main window, multicolumn "listview" controls
  345.   are used on many dialog boxes.
  346. - Toolbar has been improved with the Office 97 style and larger, 
  347.   256 color icons.
  348. - The currently selected tab (on the main window) and font 
  349.   is saved when you exit and restored when you restart the 
  350.   software.
  351. - Uninstall Wizard can uninstall fonts from multiple TrueType
  352.   families at once. This dialog now includes a font preview.

  354. - Fixed "invalid subscript" error in Print Uninstalled Fonts
  355.   Wizard that could occur if you click the print button when
  356.   no fonts are selected.

  371. Listed below are all fixes and enhancements made to
  372. Printer's Apprentice since version 6.50.
  373.  
  374.  - Fixed "Divide by Zero" error that occured when trying to install
  375.    just one TrueType font.
  376.  
  377.  - Placed error checking code in effort to fix "Overflow" errors some
  378.    users encountered at startup.
  379.  
  380.  - Placed error checking code in effort to fix "Subscript out of bounds" 
  381.    errors some folks have encountered when installing fonts.
  382.  
  383.  - Added a new specimen sheet. The 72 Point Character Set prints
  384.    a table of alphabet and numeric characters at 72 points.
  385.  
  386.  - Added a new Select button to the Print/Install/Print from CD
  387.    dialogs. When you click the new Select button, a menu drops
  388.    down offering choices to select All, Regular, Bold, Italic,
  389.    BoldItalic and None. This is response to lots of user feedback.
  390.    Many users wanted a way to select all the Regular fonts at once.
  391.  
  392.  - Fixed progress bar in the Install Fonts Wizard. As it looped
  393.    through the fonts to install, it would display 5%, 10%, 5%, 2%
  394.    and other erratic patterns.

  396.  - Added links on the menu to the Lose Your Mind Developement
  397.    home page.

  399.  - Fixed a discrepancy between printing installed and uninstalled 
  400.    fonts. On the Installed version of any catalog, the "(TrueType)"
  401.    text next to a TT font was not being printed.
  402.  
  403.  - Install Fonts and Print Fonts from CD-ROM Dialog Bug Fixes
  404.    - (Install only) - If a selected font file already exists in 
  405.      your windows\fonts folder, you could get a "subscript out
  406.      range" error. 
  407.  
  408.    - If you selected a directory of TTF files and some
  409.      of those font files were currently installed, upon returning
  410.      to the main PA window, those fonts would not be displayed or
  411.      available in PA or other Windows apps. (In other words,
  412.      installed fonts were being inadvertantly uninstalled by PA)
  413.  
  414.    - When reading a directory or changing a directory, the full 
  415.      status message above the progress bar was not being displayed.
  416.  
  417.    - Several users noted that it can take a few moments to 
  418.      close this window and return to the main PA window. We have 
  419.      tried to tweak this routine and added a "Cleaning up..." 
  420.      message to the Install/Print window.
  421.  
  422.    - Fixed a bug in the Filter drop down listbox. If you had the 
  423.      directory filtered, then printed a catalog or sample sheets,
  424.      then click the << Previous buttons to go back and change
  425.      your filter, the filter would no longer work. Each time the 
  426.      filter is changed, it resulted in a "No font files" list.
