  9. Chapter 7: Print Manager

  12. Opening screens on a graphics card with CybergraphX driver
  13. ----------------------------------------------------------

  15. If you own a third party graphics card and have the CybergraphX driver
  16. installed, you can open the preview and layout screen in true colour mode
  17. (16 or 24 bit). You just have to select a screen mode that ends in
  18. "32K", "64K" or "16M".

  21. Using the TurboPrint poster function with the print manager
  22. -----------------------------------------------------------

  24. Of course you can print posters using the print manager. To do that, please
  25. activate "Print as poster" in the filecard "Poster" and choose the desired
  26. poster size. Switch on "Correct H/W ratio" to ensure undistorted pictures.
  27. In the print manager's layout menu you should SWITCH OFF "Aspect" correction.
  28. Now you can set the size of a single part of the poster (don't worry if the
  29. image looks stretched - this won't appear in the final poster).

  31. Chapter 8: Hints for Printers

  34. Canon BJ monochrome inkjet printers
  35. -----------------------------------

  37. The emulation must be set to "Canon BJ" mode at the printer (DIP switches,
  38. see your printer's manual).
  39. The international charset must be set to "Set 2" at the printer 
  40. (DIP switch).
  41. In TurboPrint, choose the driver "Canon_BJ".
  42.  
  43. Newer models (BJ-10ex, BJ-2xx, BJ-3xx) can also be used in EPSON LQ mode,
  44. which offers more fonts. To use EPSON LQ mode, the printer must be switched 
  45. to "LQ" mode (DIP switches, see your printer's manual). Choose the
  46. "Epson_LQ,SQ" driver in TurboPrint.

  48. Canon BJC colour inkjet printers
  49. --------------------------------

  51. The emulation must be set to "LQ" mode at the printer (DIP switches,
  52. see your printer's manual).

  55. Epson Stylus Color

  58. The unprintable margin at the top of the paper can be set at the printer
  59. to 3mm (0.1") or 8.5mm (0.35") - see your printer's manual for details.

  65. If you use plain paper, the black ink may bleed into the coloured inks.
  66. This effect depends on the kind of paper you use.
  67. To avoid bleeding, use an inkjet paper or choose the driver 
  68. "Epson_StylusColorIIs". This driver generates black by mixing yellow,
  69. magenta and cyan inks.

  75. For colour prints, choose the driver "Epson_StylusColorIIs".
  76. For b/w prints, choose the driver "Epson_Stylus820+IIs".
  77. The maximum resolution of the printer is 360x720dpi.

  80. HP-Deskjet - newer models (540C,600C,660C,850C)

  83. The maximum resolution of these printers (600x300dpi resp. 600x600dpi)
  84. can be used only for black&white printouts.

  86. If you get b/w printouts instead of colour printouts when using
  87. applications like Final Writer or Wordworth, you will have
  88. to reduce the print resolution or "density" within the application.

  91. Head cleaning & cartridge alignment
  92. -----------------------------------
  93. With the new DeskJet printers, it is no longer possible to start
  94. the print head cleaning or cartridge alignment procedure
  95. at the printer.
  96. For this purpose we programmed the "DeskJet-Utility" you can find
  97. in the "Extra" drawer of Turboprint.

  100. HP-Deskjet 850C
  101. ---------------

  103. At 300x300dpi a "colour resolution enhancement technique" is used, 
  104. which varies the ink drop size and thus produces finer dithering.
  105.  
  106. If you print on glossy inkjet papers or transparencies or if you get
  107. poor results on other inkjet papers, it is important to switch the 
  108. paper type to "glossy" or "transparency". This means that
  109. black will be generated as a mixture of yellow, magenta and cyan.

  112. HP_Deskjet 660C

  115. If you print on glossy inkjet papers or transparencies or if you get
  116. poor results on other inkjet papers, it is important to switch the 
  117. paper type to "glossy" or "transparency". This means that

  124. If you use a "diffuse" dithering pattern, you should disable the switch
  125. "pure black". You will get more brilliant colours.

  131. Choose the "parallel" instead of the "turbo-par" port (filecard "printer")
  132. if printouts are slow.
  133. This is necessary because the printer's parallel interface doesn't use all
  134. control lines.

  137. Fargo Primera (Pro)

  142. The printer must receive data continuously. If printer pauses during
  143. the printout, a noticeable horizontal line will appear on the image. 
  144. For this reason, you should not disturb your Amiga while the printer is active.

  146. * Spool files
  147.  
  148. The driver creates four spool file for the four colour components of a page.
  149. You can change the path of the spool files. Enter the path and filename
  150. in the text gadget "print to file" on the file card "printer".
  151. It is recommended to spool to a hard drive, as the spool files can become very
  152. large.

  154. Example: If you have entered "Name" = "Work:Prt",
  155. four spoolfiles named "Prt.0", "Prt.1", "Prt.2" and "Prt.3" will be created
  156. on the hard drive partition named "Work:".

  158. * Printing of several pictures on one page

  160. Normally one page will be used per picture.
  161. Using the print manager, however, you can print several pictures on
  162. one page.
  163. Just disable the "Form Feed" switch. All pictures will be spooled.
  164. The page will be printed when you leave the print manager.

  166. * Heat
  167.  
  168. The heat produced by the print head can be changed by the "quality"
  169. gadget in Turboprefs.
  170. You might need to increase this setting if you print on plain paper
  171. (wax transfer mode).
  172. For the photorealistic mode we recommend heat setting 4 (medium).

  174. * Ribbon type
  175.  
  176. There are 5 different ribbon types for the primera, which can be set
  177. using the "medium" switch in TurboPrefs (filecard "Config").

  179. Monochrome:   wax transfer black
  180. 3-Colour:     wax transfer with yellow, magenta and cyan
  181. 4-Colour:                -"-   plus black
  182. Photo B/W:    b&w sublimation for photorealistic printouts
  183. Photo Colour: colour sublimation for photorealistic printouts

  185. We recommed to choose "3-Colour" setting even for 4-Colour ribbon. 
  186. This produces more brilliant colours.

  188. * 600-DPI

  190. We do not recommend the 600dpi mode, as it is very slow and produces
  191. printouts that are almost identical to the 300dpi mode.

  215. you will have to reduce the print resolution (see "Hints for printers").

  217. We recommend to set the top text margin to zero (TurboPrefs, file card "Text").
  218. This way you will get the correct top margin.

  220. Final Writer/WW with Epson Stylus Color / Pro

  223. We recommend a maximum resolution of 360dpi. Otherwise you will get very
  224. slow and usually oversaturated printouts.

  226. If you print with 720dpi, you should change the dithering from "diffuse"
  227. to "ordered" to speed up printing.
