Token-Ring Network utilities v0.2 June 20th, 1990
-------------------------------------------------------
TRLIST Display most of the people on a multi-ring Token-Ring
network using NETLIST's database NETLIST.NAM.
TRSTAT Display status of the local primary adapter at the LLC
level, all open SAPs and related link stations.
CLOSESAP Close a SAP left open by TRLIST if something has gone
wrong.
Those utilities don't use NetBIOS nor have anything to do with
NETLIST, except that TRLIST uses the same database file (only
the adapter number '\' entries, not name entries). NETLIST is
in <MSDOS.LAN>NETLIS13.ZIP on Simtel20. You can made up a database
by hand running TRSTAT on network machines if you don't have NetBIOS.
They don't initialize nor open the adapter. How could they know
the way your network software needs to have it configured ?
TRLIST needs one available SAP (but no link station) to work.
TRSTAT can show how many SAPs are available. If you open the
adapter with some NetBIOS program, in order to increase the
number of additional SAPs that NETBIOS will allow when using
IBM Adapter Support Program, put the ES=1 parameter on the
dxmt0mod.sys line:
DEVICE=dxmT0mod.sys ES=1
If you already have an ES=something parameter and you can't run TRLIST,
increase the value by one. No need to increase an EST=... parameter.
Opening the adapter through NetBIOS is a good thing, because many
parameters can then be adjusted through switches on the driver line
in CONFIG.SYS, in case some additional resources are to be reserved
for another, non NetBIOS-based, network programs. Read the DXMINFO.DOC
file on the IBM T-R Adapter Support Program distribution diskette for
a complete reference.
Bugs
-----
-- IBM Adapter Support Program (only dxmA0mod.sys and dxmC0mod.sys) is
necessary.
-- Hangs RSCS on our IBM 9377! If you have a Token-Ring card in your
IBM 937x, don't put it in the database until this bug is fixed.
In case you wonder how to get this address, it in always entered
for the 3270 PC Emulation Program (and for the 3270 PC Communications
too). Menu (a,b,z) choose b, then g. It is the destination address
(i option), preceeded by 4000. So if you have 12345678 as we do (that
is a user choosen address...), put the following line in NETLIST.NAM:
\400012345678 Our_six_million_IBM_machine
Just for the future! Don't do that with the present version of TRLIST.
That will show the IBM if run 5-6 times, then it will not show
it anymore and you will discover that it is no more possible
to connect yourself to the mainframe through the T-R.
-- Doesn't detect people running only IBM TCPIP for DOS on Token-Ring.
-- Doesn't show which SAP is which... There are two lists in TRSTAT display
and I don't know how to make them correspond at the moment.
