NOTES ON CURRENT RELEASE OF KYSS III
(Release 3.7.1)
Welcome to the latest release of the KYSS! High-Performance System Organizer.
IMPORTANT!! IF YOU HAVE AN EVALUATION COPY OF KYSS!, IT WILL NOT -REPEAT-
WILL NOT RUN ON A NOVELL LAN. IT WILL NOT RUN LOCALLY IF A LAN SHELL IS
LOADED.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
CHANGES IMPLEMENTED IN KYSS! III RELEASE 3.7.x
- KYSS! now uses extended memory to collapse to ~475 bytes while executing
commands or during an F10 shell to DOS. Option to exit remains.
- PRN: command added to print specified file(s) or user-entered selections.
- DIR: command added to change directories before executing a process.
- Directory structure now saved in a file for faster retrieval. Stored
in root of current directory or in directory spec'd with KYSAVE=d:\path
- Screen blanker now works uniformly on all hardware systems.
- EDT: and LST: will recognize a $n variable in the file name, so INP: can
be used to supply a file name to edit or list.
- Corrected a problem which showed up during file move/copy when
SHARE.COM is loaded.
- Combined the F2 menu bar entry for Directories and File Manager into
one: Disk Manager.
- A return to previous menu entry is optionally displayed on all submenus.
- Search criteria may now be changed when displaying a directory from tree.
- KYSS.CFG and KYSSNOTE.PAD and their network equivalents will now always be
put either into the root directory of the KYSS! drive or in a directory
specified in the environment variable: KYSAVE=d:\pathname.
- KYSS! now uses a pushdir/popdir concept which eliminates need for the
user-installed environment variables, KYS$DRV and KYS$DIR.
- Windows 3 compatibility using KYSS.PIF and a choice of KYSS! icons (.ICO).
- KYSSMENU.EXE (and .HLP) have been updated to include menu commands: USR:,
PRN:, and DIR:.
- Environment variable, KYSS$PATH, replaces KYS$DRV and KYS$DIR.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTES AND COMMENTS:
EVALUATION VERSION
In order to keep the size of the evaluation version of KYSS! practical
for downloading, the following utilities are not included:
Menu Builder Guided menu creation and editing
Password Change Create/modify password and user ID files
Report Generator Create detailed system use reports
Color Change Modify color palettes
LANswitch Activate Novell LAN capabilities
These utilities are provided with all licensed copies and will be sent
along with the most recent version of KYSS! when we receive your registration
form and license fee. LANswitch is supplied only with network licenses.
UPDATING KYSS.CFG
If the version number that is stored in KYSS.CFG does not match the
version number shown in the upper left corner of the KYSS! header, the
.CFG file will be re-initialized, and new defaults set for all options.
This is to ensure that the .CFG is correct for the KYSS version. You
will have to re-set your options.
KYS$PATH ENVIRONMENT VARIABLE
A new environment variable, KYS$PATH, replaces KYS$DRV and KYS$DIR. If
TPATH has not been specified, it will be defaulted to KYS$PATH, which,
if it had not been specified previously, will default to the current
directory. TPATH now is put into the environment in all cases.
FILES REQUIRED FOR BASIC KYSS! SYSTEM
Many sample menu files and information (.ASC) files are supplied
with both demonstration and distribution releases. In working
systems where disk space may be a concern, you can remove non-
essential files. The following are required files:
