This is the KYSS! Text Editor...
DON'T TOUCH YOUR KEYBOARD 'TILL YOU READ ON A BIT
You're working in the editor now. We'll try to show you how easy and
convenient it is to use it.
For more help, please press the <F1> key. You will be able to use the
<PgDn> key for more screen pages. Pressing <F1> key a second time will
display a complete explanation of the keys you can use in the editor.
You should have found 3 "pages" of help if you used the <PgDn> key
while help was displayed. In addition, a second press of the <F1> key
should have produced a complete list of keys used in the KYSS! system.
Now, let's get used to moving around in the file: Try using the
<PgUp> and <PgDn> keys to move a screen at a time. Use <PgUp> as many
times as you need to get back to this screen.
Would you please type in a couple of lines in the space below? Use the
<> keys to move the cursor into the blank space. Move the cursor back
and forth within your line with the <> keys. You can also use <Ctrl><>
to move a word at a time or the <Home> and <End> keys to move from one
end of the line to the other. Go ahead, be venturesome:
-
Did you happen to notice that the <Backspace> key moves the cursor left
and deletes the character in that position? Also, as you might expect,
the <Del> key erases the character under the cursor.
Now, let's cut out what you've typed. Place the cursor at the beginning
of your text and press <F5>. Use <> to highlight the lines, then press
the <Del> key. It's gone? Not really. Press the <Insert> key. It's
back. Just for fun, press the <Insert> key again.
Your "cut" is saved and can be repeated until you store another "cut".
In fact, a "cut" can be held after you exit your current file and then
"pasted" into another file. Try cutting all the lines you inserted.
Now, try typing in several lines below this paragraph. Notice that if
you do NOT use the <Enter> key at the end of each line, the lines will
"wrap" to the next line. This happens only on the display; if you type
a very long line, the editor will store it that way - which you will
quickly notice when you print your file.
-
Speaking of printing, let's look at the editor's utility menu. You can
print your file, save it and continue editing (a good idea, always), and
additionally, you can set some printing options. After you've finished
playing around in the Utilities menus, press <Esc> to return to editing.
So press <F2> and explore a bit.
By the way, you may get strange results printing this file if you don't
have a printer that supports the IBM extended character set. We used
them to demonstrate that you can enter the extended characters using
<Ctrl-alpha char> and <Alt-nnn> where nnn is the ASCII representation of
the special character.
You also need to know how to call up the KYSS! editor. You can pick
it from the <F2> Facilities Menu anytime you have a menu displayed. You
can also include it in a menu choice (as we have done here). That's very
handy when you have some files that you update regularly. Use the KYSS!
command EDT:filename.ext under a menu selection
The editor can also be picked from the Disk Jockey file manager's <F2>
Facilities menu. This latter approach is most versatile because you can
find and edit any text file (up to approx. 60K) in any directory.
Well, that's about all we have to show you, so thanks for your time. We
hope you find this editor as useful as we do around here.

│ you just want to get out unscathed. │
│ │
│ Use the <Esc> key to exit from the editor. You will be given options │
│ to save your file or not and also to change its name before saving. │
