INTRODUCTION
Welcome to the "Cemetery Research Database Transfer", the purpose of this
program is to allow you to transfer cemetery data from the laptop files
you may be collecting or have collected using a laptop or other portable
computer to your hard disk master files. The program will move the files to your
hard disk and will prompt you if the same cemetery ID number already exists on
your hard disk file. This will help prevent mixing of two cemeteries data.
The 2 main thing to remember when running the program are that you use the
arrow keys/PgUp/PgDn keys to make a selection on the menu and selection areas
(i.e. menus) and most important of all - the 'ESC' key will allow you to do
just that! - it will back you up one entry field, or if at the top of the
screen, it will take you back to the previous screen. If you were entering data
in a field and had not yet pressed the 'ENTER' key it will return that field
to its previous value.

DETAILED OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Since you should be familiar with basic program operations such as how to use
the selector screens and data entry screens from using the main programs I
will just list the specific things that apply to this program by taking you
through a sample session.
When you start the program the first thing you will be asked for is you source
path. This will be the floppy drive that contains the laptop data files that
you want to transfer. Example "A:" or "B:" (no " needed). Or if you are using
a subdirectory on you laptop disk you could include that also ("A:\cemt\").
The next thing the program will ask you for is your destination data file. If
you already have data files on your hard drive you will be shown a list of the
available data files. If there are no data files then a data entry screen will
appear and you can enter a data file name. This works exactly the same as the
other Cemetery Research Database programs. Of course, if you already have
data files on your hard disk but you don't want to use them, you can press the
"INS" key and add a new file. Again, this is just like the Cemetery Research
Database programs. Then you move the selector bar to the desired data file
name and press "ENTER".
From the Main Menu you have the choices of:
1. Transfer Data
This will move the data from the Laptop disk to the
master file you selected.
2. Change Destination Data File
This will allow you to select another master file
without leaving the program. (After changing source
disks in most cases).
3. Change Source Data Drive
This will allow you to change the drive or sub-directory
where your laptop data is located.
4. Exit This Program
Return to DOS
When you select "Transfer Data" the program will first ask you if you want
to delete the source files after the transfer is completed. This is a simple
way to free up the laptop data disk for re-use if you so desire.
Then the actual transfer will start. If the program finds that the ID
number on the Laptop disk already exists in you master file it will pop-up a
screen showing you both the laptop file Cemetery ID number and Name and the
master file Cemetery ID number and Name. If you want to add the laptop data
to this master file cemetery, just select "YES" and the transfer will
continue. If you select "NO", you will be shown a listing of all the master
file Cemeteries and allowed to either pick one of them, or by pressing the
"INS" key you can enter a new Cemetery. As before, this works exactly the same
as the other Cemetery Research Database programs. Note: If the ID number in
the laptop file does not exist in the master file the transfer will continue
automatically.
You will note that the program will show you the source data drive, the
master file name (destination), and during the transfer process, the record
number being transferred.
