  13. A maintenance diskette, WIN311.ZIP is available for OS/2.  The
  14. software is not an upgrade but code modifications enabling OS/2
  15. for Windows to be compatible with:
  16.  
  17.           MS Windows 3.11
  18.           Windows for Workgroups 3.X
  19.  
  20. MS Windows and OS/2 for Windows must be installed before
  21. installing WIN311.ZIP.  ServicePak, XR06300, may be installed, if
  22. necessary.  WIN311.ZIP is LAST to be installed on system.
  23.  
  24. Dealers and resellers may order the maintenance diskette,
  25. WIN311.ZIP, through GEMS, part number P83G8740.  These diskettes
  26. were sent to area PSM Brand Managers.

  28. WIN311.ZIP is available on:

  36. The WIN311.ZIP is LAST to be installed.  Some systems receive
  37. errors due to read-only files.  If errors occur, type:
  38.               ATTRIB -r FILENAME
  39. to remove the read-only attribute.  For FILENAME, use the name of
  40. the file in the error.

  43. Installing If WIN-OS/2 Support is Not Installed:
  44. ----------------------------------------------------------------

  46.  1.  Run a selective install for WIN-OS/2 support
  47.      (If ServicePak is installed run A:SERVICE from the
  48.      ServicePak diskettes before continuing with the
  49.      WIN311.ZIP installation)
  50.  2.  Type: PKUNZIP WIN311-D A:
  51.  3.  Go to an OS/2 Full Screen and from the drive that WINDOWS
  52.      is in, type:
  53.        X:  and press Enter   (X: = drive where WINDOWS reside)
  54.        A:\INSTALL   and press Enter
  55.  4.  Remove the diskette, shutdown and restart the system.

  57. Installing with WINOS/2 Already Installed:

  60.  1.  Type:  PKUNZIP WIN311 -D A:
  61.  2.  Go to an OS/2 Full Screen and from the drive that WINDOWS
  62.      is in, type:
  63.        X:  and press Enter   (X: = drive where WINDOWS reside)
  64.        A:\INSTALL   and press Enter
  65.  3.  Remove the diskette, shutdown and restart the system.

  68.  Upgrading Windows 3.1 to Windows for Workgroups

  71.  1.  Install Windows for Workgroups over Windows 3.1
  72.       - Installing on a system with Dual Boot or Boot Manager,
  73.         you must boot over to DOS to install.
  74.  2.  Install WIN311.ZIP to be compatible with OS/2.
  75.  3.  Insert diskette in drive A:.  Using PKUNZIP from the root
  76.      directory, type:
  77.         PKUNZIP WIN311 -D A: and press Enter
  78.  4.  Go to an OS/2 Full Screen and from the drive that WINDOWS
  79.      is in, type,
  80.        X:  and press Enter  (X: = drive where WINDOWS reside)
  81.        A:\INSTALL   and press Enter
  82.  
  83.  NOTE:  After installing the maintenance diskette, the
  84.         "Install successfully completed" message appears.
  85.  
  86.         If you do a selective install of WIN-OS/2 after applying
  87.         WIN311.ZIP or reapply the ServicePak diskettes, you need
  88.         to re-apply the WIN311.ZIP again.
  89.         WIN311.ZIP is always LAST to be installed.

  92. COMM Ports not Available When Using OS/2 for Windows with XR06300
  93. and Windows for Workgroups 3.11
  94. -----------------------------------------------------------------

  96. SYMPTOM:
  97.     When running OS/2 For Windows with Windows For Workgroups
  98.     3.11, WIN311.ZIP should be used. After applying WIN311.ZIP,
  99.     WIN-OS/2 should work except for the communications driver
  100.     where the error message Comm ports not available
  101.     occurs.  The COMM.DRV driver in Windows For Workgroups
  102.     3.11 is different than the COMM.DRV driver in standard
  103.     Windows 3.10.  WIN311.ZIP did not address the driver.
  104.  
  105. RESOLUTION:
  106.     Use the COMM.DRV file from standard Windows 3.10,  not
  107.     the COMM.DRV included with Windows For Workgroups 3.11.
  108.  
  109. PROCEDURE:
  110.      Replace COMM.DRV in Windows For Workgroups \WINDOWS\SYSTEM,
  111.      directory with the COMM.DRV file from standard Windows 3.10.
