- Functionality:
-
- The Icon Editor is a paint style application for creating,
- converting, or editing image files of bitmaps, icons, or
- pointers.
- - You can use up to two colors at a time by selecting the color
- on the palette and clicking the left or right mouse button.
- - You can access the Icon in the
- the icon in the productivity folder and the General page of the
- Settings notebook to edit an image file.

- Limitations:
-
- - The Icon Editor may not load or edit a files saved in 2.0
- format.
- Save the files in 1.2 format and the files should be able to
- open and be edited.
-
- - Opening a large bitmap file, (640x480x256), displays the
- "The bitmap is too large to process" message.
- Select the OK push button to load the file. It takes several
- minutes to load and only a poriton of the image displays.
-
- - The "Save State on Exit" option, when checked under
- Preference, returns to the default options when you restart
- of the Icon editor.
- The problem was addressed in APAR PJ09732.
- The fix was made available 3/1/94 in ServicePAk XR06200.

- - CTRL+S function keys is running Save instead of Save As.
- The problem is being addressed in APAR PJ12121. The current
- fix is is to use the mouse and select Save As on the File
- menu.

- CREATING A NEW IMAGE FILE
- ----------------------------------------------------------------

- 1. Open the OS/2 System icon.
- 2. Open the Productivity folder.
- 3. Open the Icon Editor icon.
- 4. Select File on the menu bar and select New.
- 5. Select the figure type you want to create and select OK.
- 6) Create the image on the pad.

- SAVING AN IMAGE FILE
- ----------------------------------------------------------------

- 1. Select File from the menu bar.
- 2. Select Save from the pull-down menu.
- 3. Type in the filename. Icon files use the ICO extension,
- bitmap files use the BMP extension, and pointer files use
- the PTR extension.
- 4. Select the drive and directory for the file.
- 5. Select the Save push button.
- 6. Select the format for the file, 1.2 format is suggested.
- 7. Select the form to save the file and select the save
- push button.

- OPENING AN IMAGE FILE FOR EDITING

- 1. Open the Icon Editor in the Productivity folder.
- 2. Select File from the menu bar.
- 3. Select Open from the File menu.
- 4. Select the drive and directory the file is located in. The
- file list displays file names.
- 5. Select the file to open.
- 6. Select the Open push button.

- REPLACING AN OBJECT ICON
- ----------------------------------------------------------------

- 1. Highlight the icon to be changed and click once with the
- right mouse button to bring up the menu.
- 2. Select the arrow to the right of the word Open.
- 3. Select Setting to open the Settings notebook.
- 4. Select the General tab to go to the correct page.
- 5. Change the Icon.

- The icon can be changed in two ways:.
-
- A) Drag and drop the new icon over top of the Current icon
- displayed on the General page.
- B) Select Find and type the Folder and path of the image
- file for Name. Select Find.

- Instructions for converting a BMP file to an ICO file can be
- obtained by requesting item CQLWF. For further information on
- the Icon Editor, refer to the Help provided in the application.
