  11. Creating Installation Diskettes for OS/2 for Windows with a
  12. CD-ROM White Label
  13. --------------------------------------------------------------
  14.  
  15. There are two README's, located in OS2SE21\ subdirectory, you
  16. can view or print in DOS or OS/2.  This directory also contains
  17. images of all the diskettes.
  18.  
  19.    - README.INS    located on DISK3_
  20.    - README        located on DISK2_
  21. To install the OS/2 for Windows CD-ROM with a WHITE LABEL, create
  22. the Installation Diskette and Disk1 images to diskette by doing
  23. the following:
  24.  
  25. 1. Start the system with DOS.
  26.  
  27. 2. If the A: drive is 3.5", insert a formatted diskette in the
  28.    diskette drive, type the following commands and press Enter
  29.    after each one:
  30.    NOTE:  X:  is the CD-ROM drive letter
  31.  
  32.       X:\DISKIMGS\LOADDSKF X:\DISKIMGS\OS2\35\DISK0_CD.DSK
  33.       X:\DISKIMGS\LOADDSKF X:\DISKIMGS\OS2\35\DISK1_CD.DSK
  34.  
  35.    If the A: drive is 5.25", insert a formatted diskette in the
  36.    diskette drive, type the following commands and press Enter
  37.    after each one:
  38.  
  39.       X:\DISKIMGS\LOADDSKF X:\DISKIMGS\OS2\525\DISK0_CD.DSK
  40.       X:\DISKIMGS\LOADDSKF X:\DISKIMGS\OS2\525\DISK1_CD.DSK
  41.  
  42. 3. If the CD-ROM is attached to one of the following devices and
  43.    set up properly, the CD-ROM should be recognized during the
  44.    installation.
  45.  
  46.      OS/2 drivers for CD-ROMs connected to SCSI controllers:
  47.       Adaptec:           AHA152X.ADD
  48.                          AHA154X.ADD
  49.                          AHA164X.ADD
  50.                          AHA174X.ADD
  51.       Future Domain:     FD16-700.ADD
  52.                          FD8XX.ADD
  53.                          FD7000EX.ADD
  54.       DPT:               DPT20XX.ADD
  55.  
  56.    If your CD-ROM is not attached to a device listed above:
  57.  
  58.     - Contact the vendor of the interface/SCSI card to obtain an
  59.       OS/2 driver.
  60.     - Ask for the name of the driver to download from the
  61.       vendors' BBS or IBM PCC BBS  (919) 517-0001.
  62.     - You can create diskettes from images and install OS/2
  63.       using diskettes.  README.INS provides the procedure
  64.       to create OS/2 diskettes.
  65.     - Perform the installation hard disk to hard disk.  See the
  66.       following steps:
  67.

  69. Hard Disk to Hard Disk Install:
  70. ----------------------------------------------------------------
  71.  
  72. 1.  Start your system from DOS.
  73.  
  74. 2.  Make a temporary directory called TEMP, type:
  75.          MD TEMP        and press Enter
  76.  
  77. 3.  Type:
  78.       XCOPY X:\OS2SE21\*.* /S C:\TEMP  and press Enter
  79.       X:\ is the CD-ROM drive
  80.       C:\ is a drive that contains enough disk space to place
  81.           the images and/or OS2
  82.     NOTE:  size = 35 or 525 and X:\ is CD-ROM drive letter
  83.  
  84. 4.  To create the Installation Diskette, type the command and
  85.     press Enter:
  86.              X:\DISKIMGS\LOADDSKF
  87.              X:\DISKIMGS\OS2\size\DISK0.DSK A:
  88.  
  89. 5.  To create DISK1 Diskette, type the command and press Enter:
  90.              X:\DISKIMGS\LOADDSKF
  91.              X:\DISKIMGS\OS2\size\DISK1.DSK A:
  92.  
  93. 6.  Edit the CONFIG.SYS on the new DISK1
  94.     Change:   SET OS2_SHELL=SYSINST2.EXE
  95.     To:       SET OS2_SHELL=SYSINST2.EXE C:\TEMP
  96.     Save and Exit
  97.  
  98. 7.  You can start the installation if you have the following:
  99.     - Installation Diskette
  100.     - Disk1 Diskette
  101.     - Diskette images in a directory called TEMP on the harddisk
  102.  
  103.     Insert the OS/2 Installation Diskette in drive A and restart
  104.     your system.
  105.  
  106. 8.  Insert DISK1 when prompted and continue with installing.
  107.  
  108.  
  109. WIN311.ZIP For MS Windows 3.11 and Windows for Workgroups 3.X.
  110. Com Ports Not Available When Using OS/2 For Windows with XR06300
  111. ----------------------------------------------------------------
  112.  
  113. A maintenance diskette, WIN311.ZIP is available for OS/2.  The
  114. software is not an upgrade but code modifications enabling OS/2
  115. for Windows to be compatible with:
  116.  
  117.           MS Windows 3.11
  118.           Windows for Workgroups 3.X
  119.  
  120. MS Windows and OS/2 for Windows must be installed before
  121. installing WIN311.ZIP.  ServicePak, XR06300, may be installed, if
  122. necessary.  WIN311.ZIP is LAST to be installed on system.
  123.  
  124. Dealers and resellers may order the maintenance diskette,
  125. WIN311.ZIP, through GEMS, part number P83G8740.  These diskettes
  126. were sent to area PSM Brand Managers.
  127.  
  128. WIN311.ZIP is available on:
  129.

  132.     Prodigy:     Fix section of download library - IBM files

  136. The WIN311.ZIP is LAST to be installed.  Some systems receive
  137. errors due to read-only files.  If errors occur, type:
  138.               ATTRIB -r FILENAME
  139. to remove the read-only attribute.  For FILENAME, use the name of
  140. the file in the error.
  141.

  143. Installing If WIN-OS/2 Support is Not Installed:
  144. ----------------------------------------------------------------
  145.  
  146.  1.  Run a selective install for WIN-OS/2 support
  147.      (If ServicePak is installed run A:SERVICE from the
  148.      ServicePak diskettes before continuing with the
  149.      WIN311.ZIP installation)
  150.  2.  Type: PKUNZIP WIN311-D A:
  151.  3.  Go to an OS/2 Full Screen and from the drive that WINDOWS
  152.      is in, type:
  153.        X:  and press Enter   (X: = drive where WINDOWS reside)
  154.        A:\INSTALL   and press Enter
  155.  4.  Remove the diskette, shutdown and restart the system.

  157. Installing with WINOS/2 Already Installed:
  158. ----------------------------------------------------------------
  159.  
  160.  1.  Type:  PKUNZIP WIN311 -D A:
  161.  2.  Go to an OS/2 Full Screen and from the drive that WINDOWS
  162.      is in, type:
  163.        X:  and press Enter   (X: = drive where WINDOWS reside)
  164.        A:\INSTALL   and press Enter
  165.  3.  Remove the diskette, shutdown and restart the system.

  168.  Upgrading Windows 3.1 to Windows for Workgroups
  169.  ----------------------------------------------------------------
  170.  
  171.  1.  Install Windows for Workgroups over Windows 3.1
  172.       - Installing on a system with Dual Boot or Boot Manager,
  173.         you must boot over to DOS to install.
  174.  2.  Install WIN311.ZIP to be compatible with OS/2.
  175.  3.  Insert diskette in drive A:.  Using PKUNZIP from the root
  176.      directory, type:
  177.         PKUNZIP WIN311 -D A: and press Enter
  178.  4.  Go to an OS/2 Full Screen and from the drive that WINDOWS
  179.      is in, type,
  180.        X:  and press Enter  (X: = drive where WINDOWS reside)
  181.        A:\INSTALL   and press Enter
  182.  
  183.  NOTE:  After installing the maintenance diskette, the
  184.         "Install successfully completed" message appears.
  185.  
  186.         If you do a selective install of WIN-OS/2 after applying
  187.         WIN311.ZIP or reapply the ServicePak diskettes, you need
  188.         to re-apply the WIN311.ZIP again.
  189.         WIN311.ZIP is always LAST to be installed.

  191.  
  192. COMM Ports not Available When Using OS/2 for Windows with XR06300
  193. and Windows for Workgroups 3.11
  194. -----------------------------------------------------------------
  195.  
  196. SYMPTOM:
  197.     When running OS/2 For Windows with Windows For Workgroups
  198.     3.11, WIN311.ZIP should be used. After applying WIN311.ZIP,
  199.     WIN-OS/2 should work except for the communications driver
  200.     where the error message Comm ports not available
  201.     occurs.  The COMM.DRV driver in Windows For Workgroups
  202.     3.11 is different than the COMM.DRV driver in standard
  203.     Windows 3.10.  WIN311.ZIP did not address the driver.
  204.  
  205. RESOLUTION:
  206.     Use the COMM.DRV file from standard Windows 3.10,  not
  207.     the COMM.DRV included with Windows For Workgroups 3.11.
  208.  
  209. PROCEDURE:
  210.      Replace COMM.DRV in Windows For Workgroups \WINDOWS\SYSTEM,
  211.      directory with the COMM.DRV file from standard Windows 3.10.
  212.
