  12. SYMPTOMS:
  13.  
  14. During installation of OS/2 2.x on OEM (Other Equipment
  15. Manufacturers) machines with AMI BIOS, the system display the
  16. SYS error messages 02025 and 02027 after inserting diskette 1.
  17.  
  18. RESOLUTION:
  19.     1.  Make sure diskette 1 is not bad.
  20.     2.  Check the AMI BIOS date and Keyboard Controller Chip
  21.         version. The date should be 5/9/91 and Controller Chip
  22.         version should be F.
  23.     3.  Ensure that there is not a hardware problem with the
  24.         Drive Controller or the diskette drive.
  25.  
  26. PROCEDURES:
  27.     1.  Try starting another system, that's already running OS/2,
  28.         with the installation diskettes.
  29.     2.  Machine must have BIOS dated 5/9/91 and keyboard
  30.         controller chip version KF.  The following information
  31.         appears when you start the system:
  32.  
  33.         AMI BIOS and AMI BIOS Plus:
  34.         aaaa-bbbb-mmddyy-Kc
  35.  
  36.         AMI Hi-Flex BIOS:
  37.         ee-ffff-bbbbbb-gggggggg-mmddyy-hhhhhhhh-c
  38.  
  39.         IDE hard disk - "mmddyy" should be 040990 or later.
  40.         Other drives  - "mmddyy" should be 092588 or later.
  41.         including MFM, RLL, ESDI, or SCSI,
  42.  
  43.         Controller chip version is on the bottom of the same
  44.         screen.  Check the last digit in the long stream of
  45.         digits (the "c" above).  The last digit probably is 8, B,
  46.         D, or F.  The required level should be F for OS/2 v2.0 or
  47.         v1.3.
  48.  
  49.         Press the Insert key while starting the system for this
  50.         info to remain on the screen.
  51.         If they are not up to date, call the vendor to order a
  52.         new version.
  53.  
  54.     3.  If the previous steps do not solve the problem, perform
  55.         hardware diagnostics on the drive controller and the
  56.         diskette drive.

  66. See if the diskette drivers were swapped without updating CMOS.
  67. Setting CMOS correctly lets you install without getting the error
  68. message.

  70. This is different from 2.0 where you could install and then asked
  71. for a nonexistent diskette 16 at the end.

  77. RESOLUTION:
  78.  
  79. 1. Make backup copy of OS/2 2.1 Install diskette.
  80.  
  81. 2. Delect the files from the backup diskette.  Type:
  82.  
  83.             Del OS2LDR    /* from backup diskette */
  84.             Del OS2BOOT   /* from backup diskette */
  85.  
  86. 3. Copy the files from the original to the backup.  Type:
  87.  
  88.             Copy OS2LDR  /* from original to backup */
  89.             Copy OS2BOOT /* from original to backup */
  90.  
  91. The SYS02025 and SYS02027 errors also occur when the
  92. diskette drive cables are switched without updated CMOS.
  93. Updating CMOS corrects the problem (3.5 and 5.25 cable swap).
  94.  
  95. The IBM PCC BBS, at (919) 517-0001, has a "redirection
  96. fix" that lets you install from the B:  drive, or you can
  97. physically change the drives in your system and CMOS settings.
  98.  
  99. The fixes on BBS are:
  100. Blue diskettes            = INS21L.ZIP
  101. Salmon or green diskettes = INS21M.ZIP
  102. NOTE:  These disks are for OS/2 2.1 ONLY!
