  14. Creating Diskettes For CD-ROM Installation

  17. To create the 2 "kicker" diskettes for CD-ROM installation:
  18.  
  19. 1.  Insert the OS/2 Warp CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive.
  20.  
  21. 2.  Change to the CD-ROM drive, type X: and press Enter.
  22.     Where X is the letter assigned to the CD-ROM drive.
  23.  
  24. 3.  Type:  CDINST and press Enter.
  25.  
  26.     You are prompted to insert blank formatted diskettes.
  27.  
  28. 4.  When the process is completed, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart
  29.     the system and begin installation of OS/2 Warp.

  34. Creating A Full Set of Diskettes from the CD-ROM

  37. 1.  Insert the OS/2 Warp CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive.
  38.  
  39. 2.  Change to the CD-ROM drive, type X: and press Enter.
  40.     Where X is the letter assigned to the CD-ROM drive.

  42. 3.  Type:  MAKEDSKS and press Enter.
  43.  
  44.     You are prompted to insert blank formatted diskettes.

  46. 4.  When the process is completed, reinsert the Installation
  47.     Diskette in the A: drive.

  49. 5.  Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the system and begin
  50.     installation of OS/2 Warp.

  55. XDF - Diskette Image Format
  56. ----------------------------------------------------------------
  57.  
  58. XDF is a higher capacity diskette image format for OS/2 WARP
  59. installation.  This reduces the number of diskettes needed for
  60. installation.
  61.  
  62. Two new files, XDFLOPPY.FLT and XDFCOPY.EXE and the new versions
  63. of IBM1FLPY.ADD and IBM2FLPY.ADD are needed.

  67. Setting Up an OS/2 Imaging Environment
  68. -----------------------------------------------------------------
  69.  
  70. You can only use XDF to create disk images if your computer is
  71. installed with OS/2 2.1 or a later version.
  72. Only a single imaging session can be used.
  73.  
  74. -   For all Systems
  75.  
  76.       Copy the XDFCOPY.EXE file from the Install diskette to
  77.       the \OS2 directory.
  78.  
  79. -   For ISA-bus Systems and non IBM Micro Channel bus Systems
  80.  
  81.       1.  Rename IBM1FLPY.ADD to IBM1FLPY.OLD or
  82.           IBM2FLPY.ADD to IBM2FLPY.OLD in the \OS2 directory.

  84.       2.  Copy XDFLOPPY.FLT and IBM1FLPY.ADD from diskette 1 to
  85.           the \OS2 directory.

  87.       3.  Add the following line to your CONFIG.SYS:

  89.             BASEDEV=XDFLOPPY.FLT
  90.  
  91.       4.  For non-IBM Micro Channel bus change the following line
  92.           in your CONFIG.SYS:

  94.             BASEDEV=IBM2FLPY.ADD
  95.  
  96.           to

  98.             BASEDEV=IBM1FLPY.ADD /MCA
  99.  
  100.  
  101.       NOTE:  IBM1FLPY.ADD now supports ISA, EISA, PCI, and
  102.              non-IBM Micro Channel bus systems.

  104. -   For IBM-Micro Channel-bus Systems
  105.  
  106.       1.  Rename IBM2FLPY.ADD to IBM2FLPY.OLD in the \OS2
  107.           directory.

  109.       2.  Copy XDFLOPPY.FLT and IBM2FLPY.ADD from diskette 1 to
  110.           the \OS2 directory.

  112.       3.  Add the following line to your CONFIG.SYS:

  114.             BASEDEV=XDFLOPPY.FLT

  117.       NOTE:  After installation of WARP, or IBM PC
  118.              DOS 6.1, 6.3, these drivers (IBM1FLPY.ADD and
  119.              IBM2FLPY.ADD) will be placed in the OS2\BOOT
  120.              directory.

  123. Setting Up an IBM PC-DOS 6.1, 6.3 Imaging Environment
  124. ----------------------------------------------------------------

  126.   Copy the XDFCOPY.EXE from the install diskette to your system.

  129. Imaging from an OS/2 2.1 or Higher OR DOS 6.1 or Higher
  130. ----------------------------------------------------------------

  132. -   To make a diskette from image:

  134.       From the command prompt, type:

  139. -   To make an image from diskette:

  141.       From the command prompt, type:

  143.              XDFCOPY A: IMAGENAME

  146.       NOTE:  XDFCOPY is limited to one OS/2 or DOS command prompt
  147.              session at a time.  Starting XDFCOPY under a second
  148.              OS/2 or DOS session hangs the system.

  151. Layout of Disk Images
  152. ----------------------------------------------------------------

  154. -   Installation Diskette, Diskette 1
  155.  
  156.       These diskette images are not in the XDF format. You can
  157.       add, delete and copy files to these diskettes.  The OS/2
  158.       utilities such as COPY, XCOPY, DEL, etc. can be used to
  159.       modify these diskettes.
  160.  
  161.       Use the image transfer program (os2image, image, loaddskf,
  162.       etc.) that you currently use to create diskette images of
  163.       these diskettes.
  164.  
  165. -   Diskette 2 through Diskette N
  166.  
  167.       These diskette images are in the XDF format.  You must
  168.       install the XDFCOPY Utility, XDFLOPPY.FLT, and either
  169.       IBM1FLPY.ADD or IBM2FLPY.ADD (depending upon your bus
  170.       type).
  171.  
  172.       These diskettes have a software write protection.  You
  173.       cannot erase files or bundle files or add files to
  174.       these diskettes.  You can only read these diskettes or
  175.       use XDFCOPY to backup these diskettes.
