  11. The README.INS file on Diskette 3 provides additional
  12. information.  README.INS can be viewed and printed from an
  13. editor in either DOS, OS/2, or another operating system.  Please
  14. review the files before installation.

  19.      * An 80386 SX, or higher 32-bit microprocessor
  20.      * 4 MB of RAM (random access memory) minimum
  21.      * 6 MB of RAM is recommended (when installing Multimedia)
  22.      * 40 MB is recommended for the entire OS/2 operating system
  23.        to be installed.
  24.      * Multimedia requires 5 MB of hard disk space additionally.

  27. TO REDIRECT YOUR DRIVES:
  28.  
  29.      A tool is available on the IBM PCC BBS and Compuserve
  30.      that lets you install OS/2 2.X from the B drive, when
  31.      the B drive is 3.5, and A drive is 5.25, and the diskettes
  32.      are 3.5.  The utility is called:
  33.  
  34.         INST21L     for diskettes with blue labels
  35.         INST21M     for diskettes with salmon labels
  36.

  39. CD-ROM INSTALLATION:
  40.  
  41. If you are installing with a CD ROM, see the OS/2 documentation
  42. for additional information.  If CD-ROM or adapter,
  43. is NOT listed, you may need to obtain device drivers specific for
  44. OS/2.  Call the vendor for drivers you need and continue with
  45. instructions in Installation Guide, page xviii, for adding the
  46. drivers to the Diskette 1 and CONFIG.SYS.

  48. If you have the device drivers for CD-ROM and adapter, refer to
  49. page xviii of Installation Guide.  If you need more space on
  50. Diskette 1, delete the following files:
  51.  
  52. Make a DISKCOPY of Diskette 1 first and use the COPY.
  53.  
  54.      DEL IBM2.* and press Enter.   For Non-Micro Channel Systems
  55.      DEL IBM1.* and press Enter.   For Micro Channel Systems
  56.  
  57.  
  58. For most OEM, it is recommended you disable following features:
  59.  
  60.               Turbo
  61.               Cache
  62.               Shadow rom
  63.  
  64.     These features are usually found in BIOS.  If you have any
  65.     questions regarding these features, contact the vendor.
  66.     After installation these features can be ENABLED.
  67.     (Packard Bell systems do NOT need to disable above features.)

  69. When installing OS/2, your VIDEO needs to be in VGA mode. If it
  70. is not, it is recommended VIDEO be set to VGA mode as listed:
  71.  
  72.               VGA mode
  73.               8 bit slot or mode, if possible
  74.               640 X 480 resolutions
  75.               Autosensing disable, if adapter has capability
  76.  
  77. If you are having difficulty with the installation and have
  78. additional devices such as tape backup, network card, scanner,
  79. it is recommended to disconnect devices during installation.

  81. BIOS should be fairly recent.  The recommended dates are:
  82.  
  83.         AMI BIOS                  Recommended date is 5/91
  84.         Phoenix or Award BIOS     Recommended date is 5/92
  85.  
  86. If you need an upgrade you can contact the vendor.
  87.  
  88. When installation completes, enable and reconnect the devices and
  89. features disconnected during installation.  If your VIDEO has
  90. capability of higher resolution, you can review your adapter's
  91. information in the OS/2 documentation.  If you have problems with
  92. the VIDEO it is recommended you FIRST call the vendor, to check
  93. to see if you have the latest driver.
