  11. INSTALLING BOOT MANAGER WITHOUT REPARTITIONING ENTIRE HARD DISK
  12.

  14. In this example, a hard disk of 80MB currently consists of a
  15. primary partition of 10MB (containing DOS) and a logical drive
  16. of 70MB.  The primary (DOS) partition is preserved, but the
  17. logical drive is deleted and replaced by:
  18.  
  19.          1MB Boot Manager partition
  20.          49MB logical drive, where OS/2 is installed
  21.          20MB logical drive, used for programs and data
  22.  
  23. In this example, you will put the Boot Manager partition at the
  24. END of the hard disk.

  27. 1. Back up any data you want to save from the existing logical
  28.    drive.  (Use the BACKUP command from your existing operating
  29.    system.)
  30.  
  31. 2. Insert the Installation Diskette into drive A: and restart
  32.    your system.  If you are installing from a CD, also insert the
  33.    CD into the CD-ROM drive.
  34.  
  35. 3. Remove the Installation Diskette, insert Diskette 1, and press
  36.    Enter.  Files are loaded into memory, a message asking you to
  37.    wait appears, followed by a black screen.
  38.    - For OS/2 WARP:
  39.      A. An option to select an Installation Method appears,
  40.         1. Select Advanced Installation with your arrow keys.
  41.         2. Press Enter and the Installation Drive Selection
  42.            screen is displayed.
  43.    - For OS/2 2.X, follow the instructions on the screen until
  44.      the Installation Drive Selection screen is displayed.

  46. 4. On the Installation Drive Selection screen, select option 2,
  47.    SPECIFY A DIFFERENT DRIVE OR PARTITION.

  49. 5. Delete the existing logical drive (which you have backed Up):
  50.    A. Highlight the line that contains information about the
  51.       logical drive.
  52.    B. Press Enter to display the Option menu.
  53.    C. Select Delete Partition and press Enter.
  54.  
  55. 6. Create the Boot Manager partition and install the Boot
  56.    Manager:
  57.    A. Make sure the FREE SPACE line is highlighted.
  58.    B. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  59.    C. Select INSTALL BOOT MANAGER and press Enter.
  60.    D. Select CREATE AT END OF FREE SPACE and press Enter.

  62. 7. Create the first logical drive (for OS/2 2.1):
  63.    A. Highlight the FREE SPACE line.
  64.    B. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  65.    C. Select CREATE Partition and press Enter.
  66.    D. Type the size of the extended logical drive (in this
  67.       example, 49) and press Enter.
  68.    E. Select EXTENDED Logical Drive and press Enter
  69.    F. Select CREATE at START of FREE SPACE and press Enter.
  70.    G. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  71.    H. Select ADD to BOOT MANAGER MENU and press Enter.
  72.    I. Type OS/2 2.1 and press Enter.

  74. 8. Create the second logical drive (for programs and data):
  75.    A. Highlight the FREE SPACE line.
  76.    B. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  77.    C. Select CREATE Partition and press Enter.
  78.    D. Accept the size of the extended logical drive (20) by
  79.       pressing Enter.
  80.    E. Select EXTENDED LOGICAL DRIVE and press Enter.

  82.    NOTE: If you entered a number smaller than 20 for the size of
  83.          the logical drive, you will need to select from CREATE
  84.          AT START OF FREE SPACE or CREATE AT END OF FREE SPACE.

  86. 9. Set up OS/2 2.1 as the default:
  87.    A. Highlight the OS/2 2.1 line.
  88.    B. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  89.    C. Select SET STARTUP VALUES and press Enter.
  90.    D. Select DEFAULT and press Enter.
  91.    E. Press F3.

  93. 10.Indicate which partition should be used for the OS/2 2.1
  94.    installation:
  95.    A. Highlight the OS/2 2.1 line.
  96.    B. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  97.    C. Select SET INSTALLABLE and press Enter.

  99. 11.Add name for DOS partition to Boot Manager startup menu:
  100.    A. Highlight the line that contains information about the DOS
  101.       partition.
  102.    B. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  103.    C. Select ADD TO BOOT MANAGER menu and press Enter.
  104.    D. Type DOS and press Enter.

  106. 12.Exit FDISK:
  107.    A. Press F3 to exit FDISK.
  108.    B. Select SAVE and EXIT and press Enter.
  109.  
  110. 13.Continue with OS/2 installation until you see the OS/2 Setup
  111.    and Installation window.
  112.  
  113. 14.Format the logical drive:
  114.    A. When the OS/2 Setup and Installation window is displayed,
  115.       select SELECT FEATURES AND INSTALL.
  116.    B. Specify any changes to the System Configuration window.
  117.    C. When the second OS/2 Setup and Installation window is
  118.       displayed, select OPTIONS from the menu bar.
  119.    D. Select FORMAT.
  120.    E. Indicate which file system you want to use to format the
  121.       logical drive.

  123. 15.Finish the installation of OS/2 2.1.
