- Before proceeding with this setup, you need to obtain the latest
- Windows and DOS drivers from the respective manufacturer. Windows
- and DOS drivers are not fully compatible with OS/2.

- Installing Pro Audio Spectrum 16 ( PAS 16 ) under WIN-OS/2.
-

- I. Drivers.
- A. DOS/WINDOWS.
- 1. Make sure you have the latest drivers from Media Vision
- dated no later then March of 1993. Customer can call
- MediaVision at 1-800-845-5870/ BBS -510-770-0527.
- B. Required drivers.
- 1. Customer will need the drivers listed below:
- a. MVSOUND.SYS (DOS)
- b. MCIMIXER.DRV (WINDOWS)
- c. MVMIXER.DRV (WINDOWS)
- d. MVPROAUD.DRV (WINDOWS)
- e. OPL3.DRV (WINDOWS)
- II. Installation.
- A. DOS FULLSCREEN
- 1. Open a DOS FULLSCREEN session and run the INSTALL.EXE
- from the disk provided with the sound card with the
- latest drivers or the one obtained from Media Vision.
- 2. During the installation the program will bring up a
- message that the AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files
- will be modified.
- a. The program will and will not updated the CONFIG.SYS
- by putting in the MVSOUND.SYS DOS driver statement.
- We will update this manually in another area.
- b. The AUTOEXEC.BAT file will be updated with and
- added statement if you choose to have the SOUND
- BLASTER emulation turned on.

- Ex. set blaster=A220 D1 I5 T3
-
- * A220= I/O address 220
- * D1= DMA channel 1
- * I5= IRQ 5 * T3= OPL3
-
- !! Make sure when configuring the sound card that you
- don't have any IRQ, DMA, I/O conflictions with any
- other device. Refer to manuals for information.!!
- III. Editing
- A. DOS DRIVER
- 1. If MVSOUND.SYS was added to the CONFIG.SYS delete
- or remark the statement.
- 2. Go to the DOS FULL SCREEN settings and select the
- SESSION tab.
- 3. Click on WIN-OS/2 Setting radio button.
- a. Scroll down to DOS_DEVICE and in the VALUE FIELD
- add this statement:

- Ex. C:\xxx.xxx\MVSOUND.SYS D:5 Q:11 S:1,240,1,5 M:1,330,2 J:1
-
- * C:\xxx.xxx - Drive and Path driver is located at.
- * D:5 - DMA channel 5
- * Q:11 - IRQ 11

- !! The above two settings are for the PAS 16 side of the card !!
-
- * S:1 - This switch will turn on the SOUND BLASTER emulation
- but can be disabled by putting a S:0. The parameters 240,1,5
- following the switch are the I/O address, DMA channel, IRQ.
- * M:1 - This switch will turn on the MPU-401 MIDI emulation but
- can be disabled By putting a M:0. The parameters 330,2
- following the switch are I/O address and IRQ.

- !! If you have MMPM/2 installed on the machine make sure the
- IRQ, DMA and I/O address for the PAS 16 side of the card
- match what you have set for the sound card under MMPM/2. !!

- ** The latest version of MVSOUND.SYS is 3.24 and can be
- downloaded from Media Vision's BBS. **

- 4. Select SAVE and close out of the DOS FULL SCREEN
- settings.
-
- 5. Go to the WIN-OS/2 Fullscreen Icon located in the
- COMMAND PROMPTS folder.
- 6. Go into the WIN-OS/2 Fullscreen settings and select the
- SESSION tab. Click on WIN-OS/2 Settings radio button.
- a. Scroll down to DOS_DEVICE and in the Value Field
- add this statement:

- EX. C:\xxx.xxx\MVSOUND.SYS D:5 Q:11 S:1,240,1,5 M:1,330,2 J:1

- 7. Select SAVE and close out of the Win-OS/2 Full Screen

- B. WINDOWS DRIVER
- 1. Open up and OS/2 window and go to the location of the
- PAS 16 windows drivers.
- a. Copy the four windows drivers to the OS2\MDOS\WINOS2
- \SYSTEM directory.

- * MCIMIXER.DRV
- * MVMIXER.DRV
- * MVPROAUD.DRV
- * OPL3.DRV
-

- C. SYSTEM.INI
- 1. Located and edit the SYSTEM.INI found in the OS2\MDOS
- \WINOS2 directory.
- 2. Scroll down to the section marked: [MCI]
- a. Add Mixer=mcimixer.drv ( Media Control Interface driver)
- 3. Scroll down to the section marked: [drivers]
- a. Add Wave=mvproaud.drv
- Add MIDI=mvproaud.drv
- Add Aux=mvproaud.drv
- Add Mixer=mvmixer.drv
- Add MIDI1=opl3.drv
- 4. Scroll down to a blank area and add this section:

- [mvproaud.drv]

- 5. Then add dma=5 and irq=11. This what it should look like.

- * [mvproaud.drv]
- dma=5
- irq=11

- !! Remember these must be the same as MMPM/2 and DOS
- settings for the card. !!

- 6. Scroll down to a blank area and add this section:

- [opl3.drv]
-
- 7. Then add patchfile=(none). This is what it should look like.

- * [opl3.drv]
- patchfile=(none)

- 8. Save and exit the editor.

- IV. Win-OS/2 in ENHANCED mode.

- A. Debug.
-
- 1. Open a DOS window or DOS Full Screen.
- 2. Go into the OS2\MDOS and backup VDMA.SYS.
- 3. Then type DEBUG VDMA.SYS
- a. E 1C01 2 <enter>
- b. W <enter>
- c. Q <enter>
- 4. Then type EXIT.

- B. VDMAD.386
-
- 1. Download the latest windows drivers for the Creative
- Labs Sound Blaster Pro Microchannel card from
- Creative Labs BBS. (405-742-6660).
- 2. Copy VDMAD.386 into the OS2\MDOS\WINOS2\SYSTEM
- directory.
- 3. Edit the SYSTEM.INI located in the OS2\MDOS\WINOS2
- directory and go to there 386enh section and add this
- line:

- * device=vdmad.386
-
- 4. Save and exit. Shutdown and reboot.

- V. Starting WIN-OS/2.
-
- A. Start the Winos/2 Full Screen session. Your sound card
- should be working properly.
-
- ** If sound still does not come up check the system.ini
- file and make sure you have the following statement
- in the [BOOT] section :
-
- drivers=mmsystem.dll --- for OS/2 2.1 GA
- or
- drivers=mmsound.dll --- for OS/2 for Windows
-
- **NOTE** You cannot run multiple DOS or Windows sessions
- that access the sound card with the existing
- device drivers. Virtural device drivers are
- need for this and should be available in the
- future.

- ** Note** (Enhanced mode is a work around ONLY!!) This is not supported however
- we have had users using this and working for them.
- Problems with drivers need to be directed towards sound card manufactuer
- since drivers are written specifically for the Windows and DOS enviroment.
