  3.        Before proceeding with this setup, you need to obtain the latest
  4.        Windows and DOS drivers from the respective manufacturer.  Windows
  5.        and DOS drivers are not fully compatible with OS/2.

  9.        Installing Pro Audio Spectrum 16 ( PAS 16 ) under WIN-OS/2.  
  10.  
  11.  
  12.        I. Drivers.  
  13.             A. DOS/WINDOWS.  
  14.                1. Make sure you have the latest drivers from Media Vision
  15.                   dated no later then March of 1993.  Customer can call
  16.                   MediaVision at 1-800-845-5870/ BBS -510-770-0527. 
  17.             B. Required drivers.  
  18.                1. Customer will need the drivers listed below:  
  19.                   a. MVSOUND.SYS (DOS)
  20.                   b. MCIMIXER.DRV (WINDOWS)
  21.                   c. MVMIXER.DRV (WINDOWS) 
  22.                   d. MVPROAUD.DRV (WINDOWS)
  23.                   e. OPL3.DRV (WINDOWS)
  24.        II.  Installation.  
  25.              A. DOS FULLSCREEN 
  26.                  1. Open a DOS FULLSCREEN session and run the INSTALL.EXE
  27.                     from the disk provided with the sound card with the
  28.                     latest drivers or the one obtained from Media Vision.  
  29.                  2. During the installation the program will bring up a
  30.                     message that the AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files 
  31.                     will be modified.  
  32.                     a. The program will and will not updated the CONFIG.SYS
  33.                         by putting in the MVSOUND.SYS DOS driver statement.  
  34.                         We will update this manually in another area.  
  35.                     b. The AUTOEXEC.BAT file will be updated with and 
  36.                        added statement if you choose to have the SOUND 
  37.                        BLASTER emulation turned on.
  38.  
  39.                        Ex.  set blaster=A220 D1 I5 T3 
  40.  
  41.                        * A220= I/O address 220 
  42.                        * D1= DMA channel 1 
  43.                        * I5= IRQ 5 * T3= OPL3
  44.  
  45.                        !! Make sure when configuring the sound card that you 
  46.                        don't have any IRQ, DMA, I/O conflictions with any 
  47.                        other device.  Refer to manuals for information.!! 
  48.        III.  Editing 
  49.              A. DOS DRIVER 
  50.                  1. If MVSOUND.SYS was added to the CONFIG.SYS delete
  51.                     or remark the statement.  
  52.                  2. Go to the DOS FULL SCREEN settings and select the
  53.                     SESSION tab.
  54.                  3. Click on WIN-OS/2 Setting radio button.
  55.                      a. Scroll down to DOS_DEVICE and in the VALUE FIELD
  56.                         add this statement:
  57.  
  58.                  Ex. C:\xxx.xxx\MVSOUND.SYS D:5 Q:11 S:1,240,1,5 M:1,330,2 J:1
  59.            
  60.                  * C:\xxx.xxx - Drive and Path driver is located at.  
  61.                  * D:5 - DMA channel 5 
  62.                  * Q:11 - IRQ 11 
  63.  
  64.                  !!  The above two settings are for the PAS 16 side of the card !!  
  65.                 
  66.                  * S:1 - This switch will turn on the SOUND BLASTER emulation 
  67.                     but can be disabled by putting a S:0.  The parameters 240,1,5 
  68.                     following the switch are the I/O address, DMA channel, IRQ. 
  69.                  * M:1 - This switch will turn on the MPU-401 MIDI emulation but 
  70.                     can be disabled By putting a M:0.  The parameters 330,2 
  71.                     following the switch are I/O address and IRQ.  
  72.  
  73.                  !!  If you have MMPM/2 installed on the machine make sure the
  74.                      IRQ, DMA and I/O address for the PAS 16 side of the card 
  75.                      match what you have set for the sound card under MMPM/2. !! 
  76.  
  77.                   ** The latest version of MVSOUND.SYS is 3.24 and can be 
  78.                       downloaded from Media Vision's BBS. **
  79.  
  80.                  4. Select SAVE and close out of the DOS FULL SCREEN 
  81.                     settings.
  82.  
  83.                  5. Go to the WIN-OS/2 Fullscreen Icon located in the 
  84.                     COMMAND PROMPTS folder.
  85.                  6. Go into the WIN-OS/2 Fullscreen settings and select the
  86.                     SESSION tab.  Click on WIN-OS/2 Settings radio button. 
  87.                       a. Scroll down to DOS_DEVICE and in the Value Field 
  88.                          add this statement:

  90.                  EX.  C:\xxx.xxx\MVSOUND.SYS D:5 Q:11 S:1,240,1,5 M:1,330,2 J:1
  91.  
  92.                  * C:\xxx.xxx - Drive and Path driver is located at.

  115.              B. WINDOWS DRIVER 
  116.                  1. Open up and OS/2 window and go to the location of the 
  117.                     PAS 16 windows drivers.  
  118.                       a.  Copy the four windows drivers to the OS2\MDOS\WINOS2
  119.                            \SYSTEM directory. 
  120.                    
  121.                       * MCIMIXER.DRV 
  122.                       * MVMIXER.DRV 
  123.                       * MVPROAUD.DRV
  124.                       * OPL3.DRV
  125.        
  126.  
  127.              C. SYSTEM.INI 
  128.                  1. Located and edit the SYSTEM.INI found in the OS2\MDOS
  129.                      \WINOS2 directory.  
  130.                  2. Scroll down to the section marked: [MCI] 
  131.                      a. Add Mixer=mcimixer.drv ( Media Control Interface driver)
  132.                  3. Scroll down to the section marked: [drivers]
  133.                      a. Add Wave=mvproaud.drv
  134.                         Add MIDI=mvproaud.drv 
  135.                         Add Aux=mvproaud.drv
  136.                         Add Mixer=mvmixer.drv
  137.                         Add MIDI1=opl3.drv 
  138.                  4. Scroll down to a blank area and add this section:  
  139.  
  140.                     [mvproaud.drv] 
  141.             
  142.                  5. Then add dma=5 and irq=11.  This what it should look like.

  144.                     * [mvproaud.drv] 
  145.                        dma=5
  146.                        irq=11
  147.  
  148.                  !!  Remember these must be the same as  MMPM/2 and DOS
  149.                      settings for the card.  !!

  151.                   6. Scroll down to a blank area and add this section:

  155.                   7. Then add patchfile=(none).  This is what it should look like.

  160.                   8. Save and exit the editor.

  162. IV. Win-OS/2 in ENHANCED mode.  
  163.  
  164.              A. Debug.
  165.  
  166.                  1. Open a DOS window or DOS Full Screen.
  167.                  2. Go into the OS2\MDOS and backup VDMA.SYS.
  168.                  3. Then type DEBUG VDMA.SYS
  169.                     a. E 1C01 2 <enter>
  170.                     b. W <enter>
  171.                     c. Q <enter>
  172.                  4. Then type EXIT.

  174.               B. VDMAD.386
  175.  
  176.                   1. Download the latest windows drivers for the Creative 
  177.                      Labs Sound Blaster Pro Microchannel card from 
  178.                      Creative Labs BBS. (405-742-6660).
  179.                   2. Copy VDMAD.386 into the OS2\MDOS\WINOS2\SYSTEM
  180.                      directory.
  181.                   3. Edit the SYSTEM.INI located in the OS2\MDOS\WINOS2
  182.                      directory and go to there 386enh section and add this
  183.                      line:

  185.                      * device=vdmad.386
  186.  
  187.                   4. Save and exit. Shutdown and reboot.
  188.  
  189.        V. Starting WIN-OS/2.
  190.  
  191.              A. Start the Winos/2 Full Screen session. Your sound card 
  192.                  should be working properly.
  193.  
  194.                   ** If sound still does not come up check the system.ini 
  195.                       file and make sure you have the following statement
  196.                       in the [BOOT] section :
  197.                  
  198.                       drivers=mmsystem.dll --- for OS/2 2.1 GA
  199.                                             or
  200.                       drivers=mmsound.dll --- for OS/2 for Windows
  201.  
  202.       **NOTE** You cannot run multiple DOS or Windows sessions 
  203.                that access the sound card with the existing 
  204.                device drivers. Virtural device drivers are
  205.                need for this and should be available in the
  206.                future.
  207.       
  208.       ** Note** (Enhanced mode is a work around ONLY!!) This is not supported however
  209.                       we have had users using this and working for them.  
  210.                       Problems with drivers need to be directed towards sound card manufactuer
  211.                       since drivers are written specifically for the Windows and DOS enviroment.
