  4. Installation on ZEOS notebook fails

  7. RESOLUTION:

  9. Follow the following steps:

  11. The fix for this problem assumes that you have access to a
  12. working copy of OS/2 2.0. Ask your local IBM dealer if they can
  13. provide an OS/2 2.0 machine for you to use for a few minutes, or
  14. ask a friend/co-worker with 2.0 installed. Bring your Instal-
  15. lation diskette with you, along with a blank formatted high
  16. density 3.5 inch diskette.

  18. Step 1.  Open the OS/2 System object on the OS/2 Desktop by
  19.          double clicking with mouse button 1 (usually the left
  20.          mouse button)
  21.  
  22. Step 2.  Open the Command Prompts folder (by double clicking on
  23.          the folder object).
  24.  
  25. Step 3.  Double click on the OS/2 Window Object.
  26.  
  27. Step 4.  You should now be at an OS/2 Command Prompt.
  28.  
  29. Step 5.  Backup your Installation Diskette to the blank 3.5 inch
  30.          high density diskette you brought with you.  Enter the
  31.          following command at the pronpt: DISKCOPY A: A:<enter>
  32.          and follow the prompts.

  34. Step 6.  With your backup diskette in the drive, enter the fol-
  35.          lowing: PATCH SYSINSTX.COM<enter>
  36.  
  37. Step 7.  When asked for the offset address, enter: 96AF<enter>
  38.  
  39. Step 8.  On the line that is shown, enter 45 to replace 44 as
  40.          the first byte in the line and then press <enter>.

  42. Step 9.  When asked if you wish to apply patches, answer: Y
  43.          <enter>.

  45. Step 10. At the OS/2 Command prompt again, enter: SYSINSTX A:
  46.  
  47. Step 11. Install OS/2 on your ZEOS using the patched backup
  48.          Installation Diskette.
  49.  
  50. Step 12. The patch MUST be applied using OS/2. If it is not
  51.          available, a diskette with the patch applied can be
  52.          sent to you from IBM.
