  5.    Hang with White screen after installation with no system

  8. * Apply ServicePak to correct problem or download fix from BBS.
  9.   Please be sure to obtain the correct ServicePak:
  10.  
  11.                ServicePak for 2.1 GA                 XR06200
  12.                ServicePak for OS/2 for Windows       XR06300
  13.  
  14. * Fix is available on Compuserve and the PCC BBS, (919) 517-0001
  15.   for the following problems in a file called:
  16.  
  17.                    21WPSF.ZIP.
  18.  
  19. **SYMPTONS:
  20. 1) White desktop with the clock after installing OS/2 2.1 over
  21.    another version of OS/2.
  22.  
  23. 2) "shutdown complete" message is displayed underneath the
  24.    "shutting down please wait" message.
  25.  
  26. 3) Mass duplication of template objects after creating a shadow.
  27.  
  28.  
  29. If you have the white desktop with the environment noted above
  30. it is recommended to get the 21WPSF.ZIP fix from Compuserve or
  31. the PCC BBS.
  32.  
  33. If you do not have access to a modem the following work around
  34. have had a high success rate.
  35.  
  36. NOTE: You must boot your system from the Installation Diskettes
  37.       prior to using the CHKDSK procedure:
  38.  
  39.  
  40. DISKETTE BOOT PROCEDURE
  41. -----------------------
  42.      1) Perform shutdown, if you're unable to shutdown, turn off
  43.         system for 30 seconds, put Installation Disk in drive A:
  44.  
  45.      2) Turn on computer, or press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart
  46.         system.
  47.  
  48.      3) When prompted, remove Installation Disk and insert Disk 1
  49.  
  50.      4) Press ENTER..
  51.  
  52.      5) When the WELCOME SCREEN is displayed, press ESC, to
  53.         display command prompt ( A: )
  54.  
  55.      6) Remove Disk 1 and insert Disk 2 (contains CHKDSK command)

  59. CHKDSK PROCEDURE
  60. -----------------
  61. 1) Run CHKDSK to correct any hard disk errors
  62.  
  63.      d: is the drive where OS/2 resides
  64.  
  65.      CHKDSK d: /f      (for FAT )
  66.      CHKDSK d: /f:2    (for HPFS)
  67.  
  68. See Page 137 in the "Installation Guide" for detailed
  69. instructions on how to run CHKDSK.

  71. 2) Check the OS/2 CONFIG.SYS file on the root directory for the
  72.    following 2 statements.  If you have more than one set of
  73.    these two statements, REM out the first set in the CONFIG.SYS
  74.    file.

  76.               SET USER_INI=C:\OS2\xxxxx.INI
  77.               SET SYSTEM_INI=C:\OS2\xxxxx.INI

  81. If you do have two sets, EDIT the CONFIG.SYS with any ASCII
  82. EDITOR by either copying the file to a diskette and editing on
  83. another machine or boot up with a DOS diskette and Run EDIT or
  84. EDLIN to "REM" out the duplicate set of SETUSER and SETSYSTEM
  85. lines. (e.g.  REM USER_INI=C:\OS2\xxxxx.INI)
