  10.        SUMMARY OF RESOLUTION:

  12.           There is only one CPU in the computer.  When the CPU
  13.        processes for one program you will get maximum performance.
  14.        When you have that same CPU doing many other tasks at the same
  15.        time as doing the dedicated process, you can expect a
  16.        performance degradation.  It is the same CPU now doing many
  17.        more things other than the one thing it was doing before,
  18.        therefore, there will be slower speed.

  20.           VDMs do not offer CPU acceleration and OS/2 does not
  21.        accelerate your CPU.  OS/2 utilizes the idle time of your CPU
  22.        much better and allows for users to continue working on other
  23.        things while a spreadsheet calculates, thus allowing customers
  24.        to use their computer, while under DOS that computer would be
  25.        tied up doing the calculation and not usable.  If VDM
  26.        priorities were able to be increased in a future release of
  27.        OS/2, then the customer could allocate more processing time to
  28.        the spreadsheet session.

  30.           Hopefully, in a future release of OS/2, there will be a
  31.        DOS-SETTING that allows setting of VDM priorities by the
  32.        customer instead of hard coded by the operating system.  Even
  33.        at that time, the CPU will still be doing some other things in
  34.        the background, but performance for that DOS session will be
  35.        increased.
