-
- SYMPTOM: PM Terminal need to connect to an AS/400
-
- RESOLUTION:
- 1. Configure the AS/400 for proper asynchronous communication.
- Note: An ASCII controller is required on the AS/400. More
- information can be obtained about the hardware
- requirements from your AS/400 administrator.
- 2. Configure PM Terminal.
- Note: A modem connected to the PC is required in order to
- communicated to the AS/400 or any other system or BBS.
- 3. Attempt to connect to the AS/400. This might require several
- attempts before succeeding due to telephone line noise or
- other outside interference.
-
- PROCEDURES:
- 1. Configure the AS/400 for asynchronous communication.
-
- This should be done by the AS/400 administrator.
- Example:
- CRTDEVDSP DEVD(ASCPS04) DEVCLS(*LCL) TYPE 3101) MODEL(23) +
- EMLDEV(*TYPE) PORT(4) EMLASCII(*YES) ATTACH(*MODEM) +
- ONLINE(*YES) CTL(CTL02) KBDTYPE(USB) CHRID(*KBDTYPE) +
- PRTDEV(*SYSVAL) OUTQ(*DEV) PRTFILE(*LIBL/QSYSPRT) +
- INACTTMR(*NOMAX) LINESPEED(*CALC) WORDLEN(*CALC) +
- PARITY(*CALC) STOPBITS(1) MAXOUT(7) IDLTMR(40) +
- NRMPOLLTMR(3) FRAMERTY(15) +
- TEXT('ASYNC PS/2 Connection 04')
-
- 2. Configure PM Terminal.
-
- a. Ask your AS/400 administrator for the communication settings
- required in order to connect to the AS/400.
- Example:
- Baud rate: 2400
- data bits: 8
- Parity: on
- stop bit: 1
- Handshaking: None
- Error Correction: None
- Terminal Emulation: 3101-20
- This information is required in order to properly configure

- Administrator to see if error correcting (i.e.
- .32bis/.42bis protocol) is supported by the modem
- attached to the AS/400. If you have an error
- correcting modem and you need to disable this
