- RUNNING CHKDSK FOR FAT & HPFS
- ================================================================
-
- Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures
- ----------------------------------------------------------------
-
- It is recommended to run CHKDSK on a regular basis as a
- maintenance process and most effective when run from diskettes.
-
-
- You do not want to interfere with the SWAPPER. The CHKDSK
- command should NOT be issued when OS/2 is started from
- the hard disk, because the SWAPPER.DAT file is in a constant
- state of change, and CHKDSK may show misleading results. The
- CHKDSK procedure may require several passes, because CHKDSK first
- cleans up primary structures and then secondary structures.
-
- The CHKDSK command with the parameter /F corrects disk and
- directory errors. When using the /F parameter, there is no
- activity the disk. If you need to correct errors on the drive
- where you start OS/2, use the version of CHKDSK on the
- installation diskettes or CD, not the version installed on the
- hard disk. Also, use the version of CHKDSK on the installation
- diskettes or CD if the disk is in use or locked by another
- process.
