- You need a set of utility diskettes and backup diskettes before
- you begin.
-

- Making Utility Diskettes:
-
- 1. Open the Welcome Folder.
- 2. Open the Configuration Tools Folder.
- 3. Choose Create Utility Diskettes - requires 2 diskettes.
-
- Backing Up the System:
-
- 1. Start the system from the Utility Diskettes.
- 2. Insert Utility Diskette 1 into drive A:
- 3. At the A:\ prompt type: BACKUP C: A: /S and press Enter.
- 4. Insert diskettes as prompted.

- PROCEDURES:
-
- Deleting Current Partitions:
- ----------------------------------------------------------------

- 1. Start the system from the Utility diskettes
- 2. Insert Utility Diskette 1 into drive A:
- 3. At the A:\ prompt type: FDISK and press Enter.
- 4. Highlight Current OS/2 Partition press Enter.
- 5. Select Delete Partition and press Enter.
- 6. Highlight Free Space Partition and press Enter.
- 7. Select Install Boot Manager and press Enter.
- 8. Select at Start of Free Space and press Enter.
- 9. If you have an additional partition labeled type FE,
- select this Partition and press Enter.
- 10. Select Delete Partition and press Enter.

- At the end of this step, you should have two partitions, one for
- boot manager and one of free space. If you do not repeat the
- process.

- Creating New Partitions for the Operating System:
- ----------------------------------------------------------------

- 1. Highlight Free Space Partition and press Enter.
- 2. Select Create Partition and press Enter.
- 3. Set the size for the partition and press Enter. OS/2 needs 60
- MB for Preload.
- 4. Choose Primary for the partition type and press Enter.
- 5. Highlight create partition at start of free space and press
- Enter.
- 6. Highlight newly created partition and press Enter.
- 7. Choose Add to Boot Manager and press Enter.
- 8. Type the name of the Partition and press Enter.

- Repeat Step 2 for each operating system you are planning to
- install. You may install an extended logical or multiple
- extended logicals for data by Choosing Extended Logical in step 4
- and omitting steps 5-7.

- Formatting and Installing the Operating System
- ----------------------------------------------------------------

- NOTE: If you are in the FDISK utility skip steps 1-3.
-
- 1. Start the system from the Utility diskettes.
- 2. Insert Utility Disk 1.
- 3. Type FDISK and press Enter.
- 4. Highlight an unformatted, labeled primary partition and
- press Enter.
- 5. Select Make Startable and press Enter.

- NOTE: If a C: partition is already assigned skip steps
- 6-7.
-
- 6. Press Enter to display the menu.
- 7. Choose Assign C: Partition and press Enter.
- 8. Press F3 to exit FDISK.
- 9. Select Save and Exit.
- 10. Restart the system using the utility diskettes.
- 11. Insert Utility Diskette 1.
- 12. Type: FORMAT C: (formats the FAT file system) and press
- Enter.
- 13. Press Y after the warning screen.
- 14. Press Enter for no volume label.
- 15. Restart the computer to operating system.
- 16. Initiate the Install or Restore.

- For DOS:
- For steps 10 and 11 place DOS install disks in drive
- A: and slect install
-
- For OS/2:
- 1. Boot from Utility diskettes.
- 2. Insert Utility Diskette 1.
- 3. Type RESTORE A: C: /S.
- 4. Follow on screen instructions.

- Repeat Step 3 for each primary partition. If you have
- extended logical partitions, they can be formatted from an
- OS/2 Command Prompt when the procedure is completed.

- Activiting Book Manager:
- ----------------------------------------------------------------
-
- NOTE: If you are in the FDISK utility, you omit Steps 1-3.
-
- 1. Start the system from Utility diskettes.
- 2. Insert Utility diskette 1.
- 3. Type FDISK and press Enter.
- 4. Highlight the Boot Manager Partition and press Enter.
- 5. Select Delete Partition and press Enter.
- 6. Highlight the 1MB of free space this creates and press Enter.
- 7. Select Install Boot Manager and press Enter.
- 8. Select at the beginning of free space and press Enter.
- 9. Press Enter.
- 10. Select Set Startup values and press Enter.
- 11. Leave the default blank and set default time as you want
- and press Enter.
- 12. Press F3 to exit FDISK.
- 13. Select Save and Exit and Press Enter.
